  1. Guess we should ask all the soldiers and vets that have PTSD if they are allowed to carry guns. Call DFCS and give them the address. What they do with it is beyond your control.
  2. we ALWAYS book through cheapcarribean.com. stay at the riu...all inclusive, incredibly clean, and right next to atlantis..all the benefits of the aquarium and walking paths without having to pay.
  3. We used Dee's Petsitting. Holy cow!!!! They were totally awesome! Played with the dogs, made the house look lived-in and not expensive at all. The pups (one was 13 and one was 5) barely blinked when we got home because they were so well taken care of. 770-906-5432 www.deesdogwalking.com
  4. Have him check with the local ruritan baseball parks. I have a friend that did service out of Ridge R park. Many churches have food banks in this area. Call Douglas or Paulding Co probation officers and have them give a list of their approved places. Those should be ok w/atlanta people.
  5. Shoot em...I don't have time for jury duty.
  6. NC-17....I agree that it's really not fair to just point this out for veteran's. As someone with PTSD I have to say...no way would I put it on my license! I carry a letter from my doctor and a list of emergency contacts and medications in my car/wallet. If I'm being cuffed and stuffed, check my wallet!
  7. I'm a big fan of Chicago. There is sooo much for kids to see and it can be cheap. Public transportation is safe and cheap, Lincoln Park Zoo is free, the aquarium, planetarium and field mus. are pretty inexpensive in comparison to nyc...and you get student discounts. you can take a riverboat ride to see the architecture...there's just sooo much! if you get a hotel near michigan/magic mile area it's very safe. we stayed in one this past dec near soldier field for $65 a night. since you have a choice between midway apt and o'hare you can price shop. as for priceline and stuff....there's
  8. Honestly, at this point I think the county should step in and impliment a 1 cent sales tax...right now...immediately. It will quickly add up and you would barely notice it when you're out to dinner or whatever. I'm not for taxes but something has to give and sucking the teachers and schools and athletic programs is something that will be felt for YEARS down the road. Especially when we're being called for jury duty in a few years because many kids will be lost. Fewer counselors, larger class sizes, no athletics, kids sitting around after school doing nothing. Very very bad picture fo
  9. NOT AT ALL! And I think cutting pay is a very bad precident to set. But I also think most of the cuts set a horrible precident. I think it's like the corporate world where if they know they can get away with less...they will! And not just this year.
  10. Do we know if BOE members visit this site so they can see these suggestions? I think some of them are great! Rather than giving 'credits' to kids for mowing the lawns...why don't they MAKE the kids who get detention/suspension do it?!!! I think the online homework stuff is something they should really consider. It will also be good practice since many if not most colleges do work submission online. I can't imagine the amount of printer ink and paper it would save. And yes, we have to stop building and remodeling and paving and upgrading. I'm sure much of the argument is that th
  11. Way to go folks!!! Keep going! I do have one question we encountered in the last county we lived: Does 'school choice' mean people can cross COUNTY lines if they provide transportation? I see A LOT of Cobb and Douglas license plates in the school lines. Our last county found so many kids living out of the county yet going to the schools, they billed the parents at the end of the year and made hundreds of thousands of dollars back. I've been looking online but can't find an answer. Everything talks about IN county school choice.
  12. Now that we all realize how bad things are for the school budgets, I propose we throw out some suggestions on how the schools can save money. Yes, I'm sure the BOE is busting their brains trying to figure things out but I would bet many of us have our own experiences with budget crunches at work or other school systems. Maybe some of those can be applied to this situation? I'll start: * Middle and high school kids have to walk to the front of their subdivisions for bus pickup. * Start using 'thumb drives' for homework instead of all this paper! (If families don't have access to a comp
  13. Love Sun Valley. Just bought our passes and for $60 pp for all summer you can't beat it. You're allowed to bring in your own cooler and food and it's clean. Rountree Rec does birthday parties, American TaeKwon Do on Hwy 5 in Douglasville does GREAT parties, and I'm not sure if this is true but I heard Ridge Rd ballpark is allowing people to rent the pavillion and whole field for birthday parties. We rented a water slide one year and grilled at the house....people stayed for hours, the kids were entertained and in the end it was cheaper than having it anywhere.
  14. Yup, to the center of the circle. Coaches should always make sure the pitcher stands in the back of the circle. Hit a lob from a coach is sooo hard. It's like hitting a slow pitch softball!! I get so frustrated when I see coaches arch the ball in...I just want to run onto the field and do it for them! Nice and flat with a little pop. I think having baseball pitchers wear masks is impossible because they have more movement when they throw. Softball is facing forward 100% of the time so it is easier. But the big difference is that they pitch from 35-40 feet away depending on age. Ne
  15. to put things in perspective: the circle for 5-8 is closer than a 9/10 pitches from. Most coaches I've seen the last 2 years actually throw faster to their 7/8 yr olds than 9/10's pitch to each other. Bats are not regulated for any of these age groups in Paulding County. Dixie, Pony and other leagues are enforcing strict rules because of the dangers. I totally agree about letting kids be kids but it's not the same as our generation. The baseballs and bats have changed SO much in just the last 5 years. Bat performance is tested in labs and the faster it comes off a bat, the 'better' i
  16. Organ donor, bone marrow donor, blood donor...whatever I got you can have! I just wonder how many people sign their driver's license and WANT to be donors but the family stops it from happening after they are gone? I for one will do some serious 'haunting' from the other side if my family does that!
  17. Unfortunately it's not just the child...it's the bat. The rate at which a ball comes off a composite bat is faster than ever before. That's why the NCAA and most youth leagues have banned them. Especially the 2 5/8 inch and higher....the whole bat is a sweet spot. MLB is starting to question the use of maple bats..... I think we should just all go back to stick ball.
  18. Wood bats are EXCELLENT to teach kids how to hit properly. The sweet spot is smaller so they have to learn proper mechanics. The complaint in the past has been how expensive they are but that's not true anymore. Start with a nice light bat such as a bamboo and then move them up. Do some research on it and you'll be amazed at the benefits!!!!
  19. Burkman is nothing but class...always has been. I find it amazing that all over our county we're allowing tball and 7/8 yr olds to use double-barrel bats and no one has said anything. Everytime I watch a game I just hold my breath when a kid comes up with a huge bat.
  20. and then pulling up with a strained hammy after your first trip to 2nd base.!!!!!
  21. My wife and I had a total blast last year!! There was only one team that was 'competitive" and even they managed to have fun. Kids run the scoreboard, cant beat it for the price, and we lost a little weight! It was cool to see people from other parks and churches and stuff getting together. Even if you don't play come out and watch....I was never sure what hurt more my shoulder from playing or my gut from laughing!
  22. I really wish our county had some kind of crime report so that we had more information about where, when and how these things are happening. If there are any suspects, if someone saw a specific car...anything to help us out! The ice cream man came into our subdivision last night at 11pm with the music blaring and I didn't know whether to call the police or run out and buy a fudge bar.
  23. The objective of the original post was to remind/inform that there is far less room for error when you are in a car and close to a motorcycle. As a rider I know the dangers and am constantly aware there is less room for error. Riders that climb up your tail or dodge in and out of traffic can be organ donors...the rest of us just want to enjoy a lazy ride.!
  24. There are soooo many ways the airport could be used...dragstrip, motorcycle racing, biking, running, street hockey league. With as crowded as the Silver Comet is now I'd pay $5 a person to take my family out there to bike. Make it a dog park! Does anyone know of any business that has moved or expanded because we have an airport? Seriously...genuine question.
