Unless someone built the computer and installed a counterfeit copy of Windows, you already own it and do not need to buy it again.

If you have been having problems for that long, I think it is time to back up your data, erase the drive and start with a fresh install of Windows. I would also suggest cutting your sister"s fingers off so that she cannot click on anything. In all seriousness, the best prevention for viruses is behavior modification and not a particular security program. The security program is a second line of defense, but is not a guarantee that you will not get infected. Most of the updates you receive are security related and will reduce the risk of infection.

Thanks to Davis I think I have the computer situation solved. However, if anyone else has a good candidate, please let me know in case this one does not work out. A BIG thank you to Davis!

BREAKING: Toyota Suspends US Sales

I would love to see the tech data on this. I have worked on fly by wire aircraft and if something similar happened to a particular fleet of aircraft, you could bet your boots the manufacturer would have a fix in a very short time. -

She has a working monitor but thanks for the offer. I need to ask a few questions over the phone to determine if this will work. PM sent.

Unfortunately she is really broke. This computer had been in storage for a year as she had been using her computer at work. Capacitors are bulging with some broke open.

Thanks. Give me a yell once you get the new one and we can see if there is still a need. I should also mention that I will make sure to destroy all of the personal data on the hard drive.

I received a call today from a woman that needed computer help. After examining her computer I determined that is was dead. This lady is a single mother that just lost her job and had her car repossessed. Her house does not have much furniture and I got the impression that they are struggling just to eat. I gave her the number of a local food pantry and agreed to help her look for a job in her area of expertise. What I could really use help with is finding her a replacement computer. I figured that there are lots of pcom folks with an old machine in the closet collecting dust. If you have

I guess trading days off with another employee would have been a better way to handle this.

I'm having a hard time determining why this is a bad thing. Employee "A" can't work his shift so he pays employee "B" to work for him. Employee "A" is paid the money as if he worked, but he didn't really make anything since he had to pay the other guy to work for him. Employee "A" could have called in sick and then employee "B" would be paid time and a half to work for him. It sounds like this scheme might have saved the county some money. There must be more to this story. More here.

Will not hurt a thing. In fact, you will want to download and install. If anyone is still using IE6, you really need to install IE8. -
If this catches on, maybe someone could franchise the concept and offer it to those at home. More here.
