  1. OK, I'll hijack my own thread...ovarian cancer is a very sneaky disease. It's hard to discover, and many times, advanced when discovered. Breast cancer awareness is well organized, simply due to the numbers. There are more women diagnosed with it. But in no way, does that minimize the education needed for other cancers. As a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, I support awareness for all and would encourage everyone to get involved. GGinGA, go to Georgia Ovarian Cancer. I receive the newsletter, and recently supported a friend/survivor who did the walk last month. September is Ovarian C
  2. Maybe the reason you hear more about it, other than this being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is this statistic from the Centers for Disease Control: Aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women. Breast cancer is the number one cause of cancer death in Hispanic women. It is the second most common cause of cancer death in white, black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaska Native women. Sorry Go Blue, I hope to see "pepto" everywhere... perhaps you haven't been touched by the disease, and I hope you never will be - But those
  3. I will respectfully disagree... I thought the NFL did a fabulous job this weekend supporting the cause. Actually, I've heard lots of positive comments about it today. If those pink cleats remind one woman to get her mammogram, or one husband/father to encourage the women in their lives to get checked - they were "well-worn" on national TV -
  4. That is pretty durn cool... especially the pink tortilla chips. The Atlanta 2-Day Walk is this weekend also - beautiful weather for those walkers. They each raise $1000 to participate, my hat is off to them...
  5. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and time to remind everyone of yearly mammograms. My tumor was discovered via a mammogram at the age of 42, and I wouldn't be here to write this if I hadn't had it done. According to the stats on the Komen website, about 207,090 new cases will be diagnosed this year with invasive breast cancer. Another 54,000 diagnoses of "in situ" breast cancer will be diagnosed. Also, about 1,970 men will be diagnosed of breast cancer. Screening increases longevity - my cancer was treated 15 years ago. If you haven't been yet for your mammogram, book it. An
  6. Some have asked, so I thought I'd post - Stairlifts are a handy addition for the home with staircases... especially as one ages and contemplates leaving their home primarily due to problems walking up or down the stairs. Stairlifts mount onto the staircase, nothing attaches to the wall, and come with many safety features for the security of the passenger. In the state of Georgia, a permit is required for installation. And the installation must be carried out by a licensed installer. My husband Patrick holds the required license, and is experienced in all sorts of installation venues - fro

  10. While clearing out our warehouse, I found 2 new Medela breast pumps... I have a Pump N Style, double electric, and a Swing Pump, single electric. The Pump n Style normally sells for $279.95 - on sale for $134, and the Swing retails for $149.95, on sale for $75. I also have some accessories left, all on sale half-off. I also have 2 "Boppy-like" pillows on sale for $15 each, and some other baby items. I've become quite busy with bra fittings, and decided to move the baby inventory. Please contact if interested, 770-222-6678 -
  11. I really liked "Turn It Around" too - must google for a soundtrack...
  12. The theatre group is Playright Productions - they all live in Georgia, but not here locally. I'm sure seeing Tom Keys perform was a treat... I understand he played all 70 characters as a "one-man" show. This theatre group has 9 performers - still a fast-moving play. The music was great... they had beautiful harmony.
  13. This is easy - Fabulous!! A very talented group of actors - I hope they return to the theatre again... just one more night - The "Cotton Patch Gospel" was written by a local Atlanta talent, Tom Keys. It's the story of Jesus, only the times and places have been changed - his life takes place in Georgia. While there's laughs about Georgia/the South, the serious lessons from Jesus are brought home by beautiful music and dialogue. The music was written by Harry Chapin, who passed away before he was able to see the musical performed. The musical received a standing ovation tonight - I highly reco

  19. Great idea for a fundraiser - Pick a Monday night and sponsor a bowling night at Stars & Strikes... We Bowl for Boobies every Monday evening, and the manager has approved that our monies can go to "walkers" for fundraisers. It's $10 for 3 games, and includes shoes, $5 goes to your group. You are also welcome to bring donation jars to put out on the tables. Publicize this to your friends - you can even pick out a theme... "Hawaiian" etc.... to make it more of an event. If you're interested pm me, and we'll plan a date. I walked the 3-Day twice, and am a survivor - it's truly a wonderfu
  20. Happy to be a part of this... and for a great cause! Ladies, put this date on your calendars!
  21. We will be celebrating Sue's life today - and her final wishes were to remind everyone to get their mammograms and do their self checks. If breast cancer is caught in the early stages, the cure rate is 90%. But the only way this early detection will happen, is if you make it happen. Breast cancer affects all of us - not just those who deal with it, but the family and friends of that person. In Sue's honor, this post is another reminder - get checked girls! Your life will depend on it...
