  1. To eliminate the mystery and give we've had this video (TP's is on facebook and I especially don't like facebook) posted before. It is George Carlin's rant about how the country is run by a small club of very wealthy folks ... he contends it is a club and we're not in it. pubby PS: TP's video clip begins at about 1:47 of the slightly longer version posted from youtube
  2. Actually, free speech is 'in the ring" and taking punches as well as giving them. While I'm certainly a fan, the radical billionaires of the right are doing their best to undermine press freedom by various means including the propagation of fake news, backing lawsuits (Gawker being put out of business by Peter Theil) and outright purchase (Adelson and the Las Vegas rag he now owns). These latter two bits along with Donald Trump's direct efforts to cower the press means it is in one hell of fight. If you're on Netflix, you ought to check out the documentary that just came out - Nobody Speak
  3. Here's the piece. Oliver knew he would suit but the suit is just a nuisance with no chance of success; except possibly in the owned courtroom in W. Va. Here is the story about the suit: from the story: Not only does John Oliver have truth to rely upon in his defense -a concept that has been protecting writers since the 1730s in the US - but has the parody on his side. Oliver is on solid legal ground and the suit by Murray is a nuisance. That said, the case is in W. Va. and the judge may be in Murray's pocket. Fortunately, HBO has good lawyers and will ultimately win, if no
  4. One of those tony British high schools has been forced by its male students to consider a radical change in the schools' dress code because of the increasing heat in summer time; the result of the warming trend seen around the world. The teenage boys, complaining about the heat, asked the school to allow them to begin wearing shorts as a part of their uniform but as schools like this are tied to tradition, the administration refused, and instead offered - in jest - that if thing were that bad, they could wear the uniform skirts, which were part of the dress code. Several young men did,
  5. Freedom of the press is the freedom of the man who owns the press to print what he wants. For the record, I didn't move whomever's topic to the political forum. Regardless, those who follow or are interested in politics here will find it. pubby
  6. That's fine. It would be nice if you would add a link to here, though. pubby
  7. Talk about hypocrites... this is a link to a conservative social media site offered by mrshoward ... http://acecomments.mu.nu/?post=370330 - I found the references to bestiality in normal conversation as sick. If that is what you folks want; go there. pubby
  8. Thorn Thicket Dr. Rockmart, GA 30153 On June 20, 2017 at approximately 1151 hours, our office answered a call from a citizen stating that she was concerned about two dogs located in the area of Thorn Thicket Drive. She stated the two dogs were tethered inside a fenced enclosure and they did not have water or shelter. She also stated that there were multiply vultures in the area as well. At approximately 1203 hours, an Animal Control Officer arrived in the area of and attempted to make contact with the home owner but no one was at the residence. The Officer did see the two dogs and they bo
  9. And to imagine that the disaster that is Atlantic City was also a $1 billion tax shelter for DJT ... that being losses from bankruptcy that presumably was a shelter that accrued to Trump for money that others actually lost. I'm actually not so sure that this money laundering, if it was Russians doing the laundering, may not be indicative of prior involvement with Russia that led to his running for office. For instance, is it not money laundering if you spend money for services like the gents that created the fake news in the eastern block? Maybe they were funding Trumps birth
  10. Just months before he announced for President, Donald Trump's ailing Trump Taj Mahal casino was fined $10 million for participating in money laundering and the evidence of those violations is being sent to the Senate Intelligence Committee to determine if there is a link between the documented money laundering and Trump's Russian connections. Notably, while the Senate Intelligence committee requested the documents from Financial Crimes center (FinCEN) of the Dept. of Treasury, months ago, that executive department was dragging its heels. Only when the senate blocked the appointment
  11. And here I thought the difference between the length of coverage of the two perps was based on the fact that Jared Lee Loughner, the wacko, was captured alive and was held to stand trial while the old white dude from LI (Lower Illinois) was killed at the scene and buried within this news cycle. That the old guy didn't actually kill anyone while the wacko in the west offed a half-dozen souls in addition to wounding a congresswoman is another difference. You know that Bill Maher tends to reference Trump as a whiner ... I think you may be pcom's top whiner and I think you might give the dona
  12. I saw a headline; I wasn't keeping up with the story from the get go, that the situation was one of road rage. That the 'msm' hypes some murders and deaths and doesn't others is rather stupid but that is indeed what they do. Hell, I can recall one of the local 11 p.m. news shows that to fulfill the 'editorial bias' toward murder, once went to a rather mundane shooting in Seattle Wa in order to report a story to fulfill the narrative that 'if it bleeds it leads.' The reality of the freedom of the press is that this freedom is the freedom of those who own the press to print whatever
  13. I'm sure all the good Republicans there thought of Denby as a good, pious, religious zealot who articulated his hatred for democrats with such ability that they all thought he was a good guy. I'm equally sure that Denby, whose salacious activities earned him 30 years in the big house, was a master manipulator who, in addition to luring children into his sick web, was equally talented in manipulating others around him to promote him to his position of leadership. That promotion was part of the armor that Denby sought to use to allow him to continue his crime. I think the elevation of m
  14. I am assuming the young man is over age 18 and is not anyone's ward. Do you have power of attorney? I can see from what you've done, you are acting as his advocate but given the laws regarding HIPPA, etc. folks aren't comfortable talking about personal health/mental health situations with an 'unofficial' advocate. Anyway, my wife has some contacts that she's going to reach out to see what they need to offer specific aid for this young man. If we can work out an avenue, I'll PM you more info. pubby
  15. I wouldn't worry so much about WWIII ... my concern is that when we doublecross the Kurds ... again ... pull out the rug from under them and utterly abandon them, they will become the next big terrorist threat to us in the US. I sense they're hopes for self-determination needs to be addressed and letting the Syrians, Russians, Iraqi's, Turks and Iranians handle it means it will not be handled. pubby
  16. From the yahoo story: The US is backing the coalition forces that includes a large contingent of Kurds. The Kurds as a group have historically been exploited by surrounding folks and they've been seeking our aid in forming a nation of their own in the region. We've double-crossed them before going back to 1991-92 when, after the first gulf war, we let Saddam regain his power over the kurdish region in Iraq. The kurds have been exploited and discriminated against by the Turks, Syrians and Iraqis for thousands of years. We are their hope for dignity and independence. They ha
  17. Here is an episode of the long forgotten western series "Trackdown" starring Robert Culp. It deals with frontier life in Texas. Culp is a Texas Ranger. The question is whether real life imitates fiction. You be the judge pubby
  18. Yes he was but you're forgetting that at one time Trump was a liberal and that a good number of the votes he got in places like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Ohio were old men liberals who took his word that he wouldn't cut SS, medicare or medicaid, would reinvest in America with an infrastructure plan as he and these guys would make America Great. Because Bernie was out at the end of the summer and the CHOICE was Donald or Hillary, it was these guys that crossed over to give Donald the nod. Oh, and when they were betrayed, they got really pissed. Now whether this particular guy was one
  19. I actually think their Mozerella cheese is the best. If you've ever seen consumer reports rankings of store brand vs. national brand foods, as often as not the store brand is comparable and sometimes better. This is often because the same 'factories' that package or process the brand names are the exact same facilities that do the private label goods. pubby
  20. According to an article I read today in the Washington Post, food at Lidl is typically about half the cost of traditional grocers because of their efficiency and use of private labeled goods. It is like 90 percent of their stock is private branded merchandise. pubby
  21. Law enforcement typically has access to a variety of guns from sidearms to assault rifles to shotguns and even pepper spray and tasers. Guns are like most tools; each has a best use. When dealing with armed killers who killed to get free, I suspect the officers are well armed and armored. Hunting is the most common need for civilians and hunting rifles usually fill the bill with greater accuracy than assault rifles. Hunting also requires accuracy. Assault rifles are really good at killing people and protecting yourself in a fire fight in an area like across a street or from a house t
  22. The level of damage goes to the gun. I just read a piece that detailed true stories from the ER that talked about two people who were wounded. One with a handgun and the damage it did and contrasted it with the damage done by the assault rifle. Admitted, a quality hunting rifle with high-velocity rounds would also cause the same kind of damage but the proliferation and popularity of the assault weapon brings the danger of this kind of firepower to the masses. I guess Scalise is lucky in that he is alive. He's unlucky because of the weapon used because it was obvious you could pretty
  23. TP: I was just remarking on this missive. Kind of like the severed head held by the comic, you know; inappropriate. Personally, I wouldn't bring attention to the post. pubby
  24. I really does depend, mrshoward, on who your political opponents are. For instance, ‘Boomer antifa’: White supremacists rip into paramilitary Oath Keepers for not being racist enough Although when raising those kinds of comparisons, I tend to use the word 'nazi' rather than bring back the memory of the dead dictator. Oh, and when folks like Richard Spencer gets a room full of folks to do the Heil Hitler salute, it is not like they bring the ignominy upon themselves. pubby
  25. Rhymes can make a lot of sense ... or they can be totally inappropriate; as in this case. pubby
