dvbp: I suppose if you are all about limiting access to justice for civil wrongs - which comes as a surprise to me - you buy the US Chamber's anti-consumer attitudes. From the article on why the group dislikes Georgia's courts: The implication of the latter criticism; that a business, with its expanded insurance, could hire a drunk to drive a truck and leave it those whom he may injure to stand alone, with typically suit-proof lack of assets, assume the full responsibility for an accident. These days you do know that the US Chamber is a very-randian (as in Ayn Rand) making

In a few places where the lack of prosecution of the 'bad apples' is coupled with the emergence of a racist administration that combines to destroy all hope. Take away hope, provide no legitimate jobs for sustenance, disallow access to the social safety net to further advantage the ultra-wealthy and this is the result. Congratulations for creating a self-fulfilling prophesy in your quest to destroy civil society. That is what kleptocracies wanting to become authoritarian dictatorships do. Heck, maybe Trump can arrange to burn the Congress and blame it on antifa. pubby

Open Carry Is Not Safe. Even A Folded Up Knife Will Get You Dead.

I guess you never heard of the principle that all are innocent until proven guilty. The idea that cops are anointed as not only law enforcement but apparently you wish to have them act as judge, jury and executioner. Which begs the question, is this what you have in mind? pubby -
Open Carry Is Not Safe. Even A Folded Up Knife Will Get You Dead.

I think the best way to explain the differences between the attitudes expressed pro and con the police is that they are public servants, not members of a tribe or gang. As public servants, their duty is to protect the public. The outrage expressed toward those police who fail miserably in that mission is because they failed in their duty and people are dead as a result. The criticism is justified and they should be criticized and, if their failure rises to criminal neglect of their duty, they should be prosecuted. Unfortunately, the police are considered by conservatives part of the -

I thought I agreed with you that antifa was intolerant. I do, however, take umbrage at the notion that Republicans are uncompromising except when it comes to extra marital affairs, willingness to listen to top campaign contributors, lying gratuitously and participating in other more direct examples of graft and corruption. Mostly I know this because of the common trait of projecting one's shortcomings on others. I wouldn't go so far as to say these common failings are genetic for obvious reasons (some 'round here will lie and say I'm slamming you by alleging rampant incest.). Still the -

Too bad, we might have a chance if there were just one person as intelligent and wise on the right. Unfortunately, many on the right will see the attitude of this wise and intelligent person as weakness they can exploit. I'm not so sure that is not what really attracts those on the right who believe they are morally superior you can justify almost anything. BTW; ABR, she never saw the error in her ways, she was just uncomfortable with the rhetoric of defiance and just didn't buy into the defiant approach as it conflicted with her innate pacifism. Too, too bad that back in 2008-10 -

I read the piece. Seems the author discovered intolerant people exist on the left. That it would come as a surprise to anyone is the only surprise. Intolerance, though, is a disease. The first casualty is compromise which is based on the reasoning that real progress always requires consensus. Those who reject compromise promise conflict. Those who insist that it is their way or the highway are the ones whose intolerance screams: The point is the first thing you justify is a position of no compromise - which is yelling you don't count, we don't even need to listen to you -

Checked the hourly forecast for Hiram at the Weatherforyou website that we've featured a bug for for years and it looks to me like we may have ducked IRMA's wrath ... i.e. while we'll certainly get wet - four or five inches of rain are forecast - the big deal is the wind that was anticipated just won't be as bad as I anticipated ... i.e. winds in the 30-40mph range with gusts over 50 mph. The forecast I was reading moments before I posted this (the hourly forecast available here) showed gusts under 20 mph today. Certainly it will be windy but nothing like that anticipated before. In f

Fox News Caught Telling The Truth About Our Founding Fathers

ever heard 'dance with the one that brung you' ... the United States of America was not developed and reach it potential by a proliferation of private schools (elitist schools) but rather it was the land grant colleges established by Lincoln and the public school movement of the 1880s - acts by progressives - that educated America and prepared her for the 20th century. We were the wonder of the world, not because of the theologians from Harvard but because of the engineers (rambling wrecks) from GA Tech. The interest in private schools, particularly in the south, is based on the effor -
If it promises to be anything Opal, there little else to do but hunker down while the wind blows; particularly if we lose power. A howling wind is not a condition conducive to education. I imagine a needed school lunch might even be difficult to serve in the midst of such a storm. Hoping we don't lose power pubby

Fox News Caught Telling The Truth About Our Founding Fathers
gpatt0n replied to Eddie Bennett's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Yeah, sure ... the only problem with this being your position or that of the far right is that what your proposing is funding education and making it easily available ... whereas your actual policy actions are to privatize it, make it cost a lot and make it inaccessible. In other words, you guy are just trying to make it sound like we are ignorant and you are smart and that the idea that a school lunch program - when you want to cut - will benefit the students by disappearing because people learn better when they're hungry or starving. There are two ways to address this. First, if wh -

He was on fox in 2008-9 when Nancy Pelosi was the speaker of the house. They weren't lying; they were courting blacks for conservatism; kind of like when GD says that I'm racist because I have compassion think that government provides the best vehicle we as people have to serve the needs of large groups of people; you know like providing disaster relief (as well.) pubby -

I don't disagree. I think I've been consistent. I think folks, whether they are religious fanatics (any religion), white nationalists, murdering, rampaging racists, Klanish Kluxers, goose-stepping nazis or annihilating anarchists, are all the batcheese crazies. And yes, everyone knows this. pubby

Those who are called antifa - I don't think they have any formal organization, membership rosters, leaders or dues - basically are a bunch of bullies whom one might believe get their jollies by picking fights with the much more organized bunch of bullies who wear uniforms (some look military; some of the uniforms look like sheets). Notably, the one's with uniforms seem to have an ideology whereas those bullies who just get off on fighting believe mainly that actions speak louder than words and their actions are anarchy. Given they are all bullies out looking for a fight, to ascribe an

Cobb County Cop Tells A Woman, "We Only Kill Black People."

Mojo: The courts have already ruled on this and among the things they've said is that the nurse could be held liable for invasion of his privacy, assault and violation of HIPPA which opens her up to some serious medical malpractice claims - we're talking some pretty hefty judgments. The courts notably have been pretty supportive of police in these situations; i.e. the usual result of an over-reach of this nature is the evidence is excluded. Because the cop is operating under the veil of government authority, the cop or the city/county/state can't be sued for the same things that the -
No one really knows who they are and that makes your suggestion they are plants of those on the right totally possible. I don't think anyone has gotten much more than a bloody nose in the conflicts between antifa and the neo nazis suggesting it may be street theater. Certainly the antifa meme is a rich source for right wing propaganda in the high stakes game we call politics. Certainly such things have happened in the past and given any reasonable analysis of who benefits, it is possible that the disruptions on both the far right and far left are funded by those seeking to destroy civil

I don't think anyone claims that antifa is a non-violent group. What we have here with this group is the classic chicken and egg situation. Fortunately, the logic of language defines the relationship of the fascist and antifa ... the Fascists; which have been around as Kluxers, militia groups, neo-nazi's and other forms of right wing lunacy since the beginnings of the 20th century. What we have with the antifa are a bunch of folks, some of which are just looking for a fight and a very few who are ideological as anarchists of one type or another who really, are most notable because t
