  1. While it is a disgrace this guy is a congressman, I'm elated that he is no longer a cop. pubby
  2. In a strange way we do agree. TRUMP should withdraw from every bit of human intercourse and should have begun doing that a long, long time ago. That he did in the case of the Paris accords means he is getting it right; the world doesn't want him to represent the US and being a persona non-grata, it is good that he's gone from the Paris agreement. I think the acts of governors, mayors, corporations and individuals in support of making the change to renewable and non-carbon sources of energy in the USA show we are still supporting the agreement. As far as trump's mandate; he didn't ha
  3. This ABC news report raises a very serious question about the December 2016 meeting between Jared Kushner and a 'sanctioned' Russian banker with direct ties to Putin. It is obvious that the banker said the discussion was about personal business between Kushner, who was in line to be a top adviser to Donald Trump. A little better context includes the understanding that both Michael Flynn and Kushner were asserting their influence for the dropping of all sorts of sanctions against Russia for their involvement in invading Crimea and portions of Ukraine imposed by NATO and the Obama A
  4. If Trump is in Putin's pocket, why hasn't he dropped sanctions? That is a good question. It appears that he tried and tried hard in the first weeks of his administration. The problem was that the bureaucrats pushed back on his efforts until the Trump-Russia investigation, which was underway, got additional fuel with the troubles the administration was facing with the allegedly criminal behavior of its national security advisor Michael Flynn. Flynn, as we know, was an unannounced paid foreign agent at that time; and it was known by the fourth day of the administration and that scandal
  5. I won't post Friedman's column (link), which summarizes how he sees the changes we've experienced since January 20. Suffice it to say, he sees Trump's pretensions in the light of the size of his ego. Instead, I will post a couple of the comments: I don't know about you, but no one I know wants a king whose word is law and is above the law. How about you? pubby
  6. That he has denied climate change in the past is operative; kind of like the way the courts are reviewing his immigration bans that only now he asserts aren't aimed at barring Muslims which most see as unconstitutional discrimination based solely on religion. The 'deal' of the Paris accords is that they are self-defined goals and there are no sanctions involved if one fails to accomplish the goals. The whole exercise of the agreement is to agree there is a problem and each country ought to set goals and accomplish them. By withdrawing, he is either saying there isn't a problem or he's
  7. What you folks don't realize is this is a continuing battle between the isolationists and the progressives who have had this fight several times. The first time was in the wake of WWI when the isolationists in the GOP controlled US Senate refused to ratify the treaty of Versailles and the League of Nations. The battle was fought again in the 1950s with the conflict between Taft and Tailgunner Joe against ultimately Richard Russell, Senate Leader Lyndon Johnson and Dwight Eisenhower. (You should read Caro's Master of the Senate part II for details.) This is when folks the John Birch
  8. The easy read is from this article in the Washington Post which relates the finding of a scholarly report that analyzed the tax evasion rates of the wealthiest people in Scandinavia by comparing information from the Panama Papers and a leak of accounts held in a Swiss bank. They basically discovered that tax evasion rates for regular wage earners was close to zero while self-employed of less wealth hovered around two percent. In contrast, the very wealthy; in part because of the proliferation and lack of risk associated with formal tax evasion services in countries that encourage that act
  9. What you fail to recognize TP is that those in the GOP aren't against all regulations. In fact they like those regs that let them control markets. The Australian students should publish and distribute their information and since the distribution of the base chemical compound is not limited (as is the method of making the drug) Of course doing what the guy you referenced did - raising prices unconscionably - was probably bettered by the gal who zoomed the price of the epipen ... the government, which initially estimated the cost to taxpayers was $400 million are now estimating the taxpa
  10. Trump was playing putin puppet joining the other putin puppet Assad. Nicaragua's opting out is a non-starter. The goal of Putin in ordering Trump to back out of the Paris accords is to remove the US from its leadership in the world. pubby
  11. One might even say that the use of those special words could be a way for those in the movement identify themselves to each other. I find your 'fav' - "Red-Pilled" a Liebrul today, meaning they WOKE (spread knowledge to) this person trying to make them accept a BASED (GOP BASE) belief/lifestyle - interesting as it speaks to my understanding of their goal; that being the hypocrisy of their proclaiming individuality while asserting that everyone must conform to their beliefs/lifestyles. pubby
  12. No, I mean like those who use juvenile descriptions as names like Crooked Hillary, lazy Jeb and lying Ted. Typically, opinions differ from the above and can be argued on their merits. The very structure of the language differs when one utters the statement, Donald Trump's administration is racist (and Opinion) and one utters "Kluxer Don has a shapely wife who appears to be ashamed to be seen with him in public." Show me, anywhere that in the example in the above paragraph, I've used that kind of juvenile wordplay. pubby PS: I don't think that calling Donald Trump racist; poin

  15. What ever happened to the notion that imitation is the greatest form of flattery. I see no intellectual property theft here. If you want to get upset about theft of intellectual property, there are many more important issues out there from the patenting of life (DNA) to the transition of copyright from a 20 year protection for living beings to today's Mickey Mouse inspired copyright protections (75 years of protection for the corporation that owns the copyright ... after the death of the creator.) pubby
  16. LPPT: I think the issue voters have with Mr. Davis is less about the heart and more about the gall bladder ... i.e. the gall it takes to present one's self as some kind of paragon of family values all the while committing hypocritical acts. I think the problem at hand is at the heart of Matt: 7:1-5... the 'Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged' admonition. Perfection eludes us all, for sure but some are more imperfect than others. pubby

  21. I agree it is inappropriate but I wonder if you would have sought to paint every hetero couple with your complaint if these two people were heterosexual. pubby PS: They might have been hetero ... you know one being a guy and the other being a transexual girl that feels like a guy.
  22. I want you to think exactly who shoved this in your face? Was it the preacher, the folks who sought you support in their rejection of same sex marriage, the politician pandering on the issue for your vote ... or the reality of a couple who came and knocked on your door to 'throw their gayness in your face.' Seriously, the only folks who have ever thrown objections to gay marriage or the gay life in my direction at all have been those objecting to the arrangement. pubby
