It is sad. What is really sad is I'm sure when the guy bought the gun - no doubt 'to protect his family' - never dreamed he would use it to destroy his family. pubby

Post 2 candidate rails against 'good old boys' in Paulding Politics

NJ: I wouldn't dream of assaulting Patti's Democratic Party bonafides ... and I compliment her every time I hear her speak on her ability to channel the anger that exists out there in land ... She's probably the type of democrat that folks have in mind when they say that the Tea Party is non-partisan as she is very conservative on what government should not do (AA, IBA) but breaks with the religious right on personal freedoms. And I might add, there is a lot of anger out there at the extremes in both parties. pubby PS: By nature I'm not as 'angry' as she is but then, she lives -
Patti Smith hits on being in crash zone B and expressed thought that if 'they can get away with that in Ferguson' she opines that kind of government power may make her a target of her 'enemies' amongst the good old boys in Paulding politics. In her stump speech, Ms. Smith said provacatively, "If they'll do that out here, they might shoot me the next time I wave a sign at David Austin" The stump speeches of the other candidates can be viewed in this topichere Ms. Smith is running against incumbent Post 2 commissioner Todd Pownall and said

You're wrong TP: The SCOTUS has, by refusing to hear circuit court appeals from states when the federal circuit courts asserted that recording officers when there is no expectation of privacy (which means on public property, sidewalks, etc. in plain view) affirmed the right to record officers despite state laws prohibiting it (These decisions specifically overturned those state laws prohibiting recording.) These decisions relate to the decision in 2011 of the SCOTUS to not review those lower court cases. The lower courts ruled that it is a first amendment right of the people to r

My outrage is that this cop apparently acted as judge, jury and executioner which is a bit beyond his pay grade. If you deconstruct the event into a series of events, it may be the officer exceeded his authority when he fired and missed the kid as the kid was trying to run away. For instance, the first assumption is the determination that the SCOTUS decision in Garner v. Tennessee was not in play. That SCOTUS decision says that officers are not permitted to use deadly force to stop a fleeing suspect if the suspect is unarmed and didn't presumably pose a danger to the public. The -

The issue regarding the Vietnam War and the conservative belief that Nixon's abilities to bring the war to an end were complicated by the protests ignores the fact that Nixon was responsible for the war even extending to his administration because of essentially treasonous actions of his campaign. Lyndon actually had an audio tape and reports that Nixon had sabotaged the 1968 Paris Peace talks literally having S. Vietnam's government withdraw from the talks because he promised South Vietnam’s President Nguyen van Thieu a better deal than Johnson and Democrats if he would wreck the peace ta -

I think that there are many competing needs, goals, desires and visions. The challenge of which you speak involves people being able to compromise to make a circumstance a win-win situation. What we get from the right is 'shut the government down' type solutions by a party that refuses to compromise. There is plenty of outrage at the gangs and the society that glorifies weaponry and declares ownership of a firearm a constitutional right presumably even for former criminals. Reasonable gun control that seeks to limit the easy accessibility to guns is a second side of the argument an -

Oh, Zorro ... I disagree. This is not a racial issue; this is a tribal issue and the tribe that holds the most cards are those who are employed in the criminal justice system - i.e. the folks who are LEO and the states prosecution team (DA's). The regular citizens including the poor and middle class, constitute other tribes and what we're seeing, basically, is a reversion to a form of occupational tribalism where those in a group protect their own, those not in the homeboy group (or behind the thin blue line) are expendable. In practical terms, tribalism is not race based but culture base -

I don't know what a jury will determine. It may well be that a video will appear from an as yet unknown source that will make it clear that the officer was 100 percent justified. My gut is that the officer may be somewhere between 40 and 60 percent justified ... i.e. four or maybe five of the shots may have been justified but the sixth and killing shot to the crown - a shot taken to kill that could have been avoided - may ruin an otherwise appropriate response. Now it could be that shots two, three and four were good but shot one was bogus because the guy wasn't 'charging' at the time a -

He was the cop making the stop. It was his report to write. Now he may have written simply. Stopped two youths jaywalking. A melee ensued that ended with one of the youths dead in a police-involved shooting, the investigation of which has been turned over to the St. Louis County Sheriff (or whomever). That report, filed in a timely manner would have been brief, factual and credible. The way the report was delayed - which suggests no one knew what to say, raises suspicions. No one here is saying the cop is guilty or innocent. We're saying that the only witnesses other than the -

Oh, I understand completely that expectations and performance are two entirely different things. The expectation is that someone fills out the report. Performance (or lack thereof) is the fact. If it was a righteous thing, why didn't he write it. This whole topic was about his version. The point is his version has not been released. And that is the fact. pubby -

I think they're probably asking too much for their property or else someone would have bought it. A sale occurs only when a buyer and seller can meet on price. A who offers land at an unrealistic price is not selling their land, they are entertaining themselves ... you know kind of like buying lottery tickets and dreaming of winning the big one. pubby -

I want people who are guilty to be held accountable and I don't want any sanctions on those who are not guilty. There are common procedures within all departments and one of the most common is the filing of the initial incident report or arrest report. The kid was who lay dead on the street was obviously detained and may have been arrested before he 'expired ' ...or at least was pronounced. . Investigations and the reports and documents collected by investigations are not 'initial incident reports' and initial incident reports typically and usu ally contain a brief narrative of th -
Dallas Ga., : As of August 20th, 2014, cellular subscribers of all four major cellular carriers can now send a short message service (SMS) text message to Paulding County E-9-1-1 for emergency help when unable to place a 911 voice call. This service is now available to any subscriber of Verizon Wireless, Sprint, AT&T or T-Mobile within range of a Paulding County cell tower. Text to 9-1-1 is primarily designed for use in two emergency situations: Individuals who are hearing or speech impaired, or for a person who is unable to make a voice call. “Text to 911 service was first impleme

Trees can be profitable for sure ... especially when they are treated favorably by the tax code (which they are). What trees don't do is create a great deal of employment nor do they create a great deal of taxable value. ... And they don't typically grow in the middle of an existing industrial park (like that referenced by Jamie Gilbert in the discussion). pubby -
Glassdogs: According to the wiki you can get as many as 25 people into a phonebooth. Since there are typically more than 25 folks at the monthly county Democratic Party meetings ... there is no way on earth a phone booth could accommodate all the Paulding Democrats. You do know in that that I had almost a 100 votes for me in the District 2 Post Race in the Democratic Primary. Anyway, you got to remember phonebooth stuffing. Anyway, wasn't that you there with your head between that guys legs? pubby

Gone: I wasn't stating a policy; I was stating a fact. The other side of this coin is that the taxable value of the land increases when supply is low and since property taxes do exist. The sad part is that taxes will increase regardless (Higher land values due to limited supply and increasing demand) and the people with homes and property will have to pay the full price themselves whereas if more land were available on the market and sold at true market value, values might decline but the overall digest would increase because of the investment. Think of it this way, the cost of li -
