  1. This is a parody of a 'play' that envisions a 'true' libertarian future. Think of a short 'who done it' ... I found the link reading comments on photographyisnotacrime.com where a guy was suggesting the answer to the problem with police not serving their community was due to the fact that the public pays them meaning they can treat people badly. It is worth the rest of the read pubby
  2. With more than 30 shots fired by the bunch of cops who arrived, one might think the clerks in the restaurant were lucky they weren't hit too. pubby
  3. From https://tv.yahoo.com/news/walking-dead-showrunner-addresses-daryls-sexuality-confirms-gay-233650433.html That caught me by surprise if it is true. Oh wait ... he's the guy who uses the crossbow ... how 'gay' ... You know, to be straight you need a real pistol in your pants pubby
  4. I was including self-inflicted gun shot wounds ... and given that some folks are secretive when they do a drug overdose (accidental poisoning) or drive their beater into an abutment at 80 mph as an act of suicide ... and those figures are in the accidental poisoning death/auto death categories ... and since topic is the presumed faulty judgment of those doing those things the only equitable way to present those statistics would be to include the self-inflicted gunshots deaths. pubby PS: I should add that when a driver runs 125mph on bald tires in the rain, their judgment is no better
  5. You left out putting stuff in your mouth (drugs, wood alcohol, lead, poinsettas, chlorine gas, etc.) All poisoning deaths Number of deaths: 46,047 Deaths per 100,000 population: 14.8 Motor vehicle traffic deaths Number of deaths: 33,783 Deaths per 100,000 population: 10.8 All firearm deaths Number of deaths: 32,351 Deaths per 100,000 population: 10.4 pubby PS: A lot of folks don't use guns daily as a part of their normal routine ... poisoning affects white men more than most others in the demographic spectrum and 90 percent of the deaths involve prescription drug overdoses.
  6. Mo: I disagree. This was an open air BBQ in the heat of August so the attire should be forgiven. What would have been atrocious would be if someone stupidly played "Hail to the Chief" or some other grandiose musical entry as the introduction. I think she was 'over the top' in suggesting that the county may seek to shoot her for her dissenting comments on the airport but I admit the first time heard the comment when I was listening live was more disturbing on that county than on review. Patti, you should remember, is very much an person with an uban ... even Floridian backgroun
  7. Given the tens of thousands of self-inflicted and accidental shooting deaths annually, the issue may be the level of judgment extant in the greater community may be the core issue. pubby
  8. That is a good speech TP I wonder if anyone would disagree with it? In an effort to parse out such disagreement, here is the text: I thought I might also add the biblical reference Chaplin made from Luke:17 Among the other references in Luke 17 is: The criticism I have of the speech is that while he makes these points ... ... he failed to grasp the role of fear created by to those poisoned by greed and clever they are in manipulating it to insulate us to suppress kindness and gentleness. pubby
  9. The ME was stated that the shot to the top of the head would appear to be made with the victim below (as on the ground or on the way to the ground) the shooter as the bullet entered the back portion of the skull and exited the front of the face. The story now becomes the one shot in the six shots in rapid succession followed by a pause and then four more. We also know there was another shot - unless the officer was lying - while the youth and the officer struggled in the car. Forensically, I'm having a hard time imagining how the ten shots equate to six wounds in that order knowing
  10. Child firing Uzi at Arizona shooting range accidentally kills instructor, police say By Steve Almasy and AnneClaire Stapleton, CNN updated 10:27 PM EDT, Tue August 26, 2014 STORY HIGHLIGHTS Charles Vacca died Monday night after he was accidentally shot in the head Police said he was showing a 9-year-old girl how to shoot an Uzi The weapon kicked left as she fired a quick burst of bullets Vacca was a military veteran, CNN affiliate reports (CNN) -- A 9-year-old girl learning to fire a submachine gun accidentally killed her instructor at a shooting range when the weapon recoiled over her
  11. try renaming the files and adding a .jpg at the end. From what I'm seeing the file names are not recognized as a specific kind of image file and so they show the file icon instead of a the picture. Normally, if it were my computer I would right click on one of hte files and read the type of file, its size and see if that told me something. You rename the file, btw, also by right clicking and you can rename them something other that string of numbers. BTW the site you're downloading the images from may not be letting you do that. I suspect if you were to click on your image
  12. Seems some 175 years ago or so there was the Missouri Mormon War where the regular folks fought to keep the Mormons from the polls and over the course of a period of time some 22 people died and there were mobs of hundreds. Of course this wasn't Utah but it was Mormons so one might wonder if it is just the reaction of folks who some Missourians don't want around being picked on, kept from the polls and occasionally shot - It just may not have anything to do with religion or race ... it is just Missouri ... Coming from close to there; that seems to make some sense although others may ha
  13. That is supposition TP ... based on the un-sworn, unchallenged accounts of the witnesses. Put the information and counter-information from the officer and put that information in front of a jury and their verdict will be considered the truth. It will be then that the officer may or may not be convicted. Given the strength of that narrative to the observable facts means the case deserves a trial. pubby
  14. Zorro: I suspect the officer based on the plain fact that an armed man shot and killed an unarmed man who was at one time running away. For someone to turn and run into gun fire, serious injury and likely death is only rational if you expect gun fire, serious injury or death if you continue to run or even surrender. pubby
  15. Shallow Hal ... I've seen a few folks beaten who shouldn't have been. I've been yelled at and threatened for doing my job (but never struck). I'd say that usually what you say, is correct ... many of those beaten by the police brought it upon themselves but given protests, which are a constitutionally protected activity and even being a member of the press observing said protests carries with it risk of being beaten inappropriately, I wouldn't issue quite as blanket a statement. Some people have a job that puts them in the line of fire. As one of the guys leading the charge ..
  16. We know there were six shots in the youth. We know there was one shot discharged in the police car. I have heard one shot hit a house. I suspect the officer had a glock with 15 rounds. Were seven shots fired? Were eight shots fired or were 15 shots fired? ... or 9 or 10 ??? That information, which is What difference does it make? Well what if that warning shot wasn't a warning shot ... just a miss or maybe two or three misses. The reports are the officer exited his car and headed after the youth ... if there was a shot fired before the youth turned around, then the SCOT
  17. I was pretty clear that I consider it an inert piece of iron. But in the hands of some humans, it is a power-giving talisman that people sing songs about. pubby
  18. I've seen no report that totals the number of shots fired in the incident. How many shots do you think were fired? pubby
  19. I'm sure that is true ... but the purpose of electricity in the home is to provide light and save on the drudgery of cleaning as well as to provide the means to display television signals, operate computers and provide a whole gamut of modern conveniences. It is also safer than the gaslight system that preceded it and is really quite safe. While it can and has been used as a tool to kill - primarily via the state's electric chairs - most would rank 'taking life' as among its least popular attributes. Now a gun is not specifically designed or typically used for anything other than shoot
  20. And stradial ... I really don't think that anyone would argue with that idea. Where you'll get argument is whether they're doing a fair job, good job, great job or not doing the job at all. Having covered a lot of different city and county governments over the past 40 years, I don't see the current group as anywhere close to the worst and certainly none of the local and county governments would earn an A+ in my book either. For comparison, the second county commission I covered back in Oklahoma was among the worst. These guys sat around and talked about the weather knowing that the d
  21. No. I owe to my child hood friend who was dead at age 12 because of improper training and the easy availability of a gun in the home because of the fear of burglary and home invasion. The plain fact is and it is statistically provable, you are more likely to die by a gun if you have a gun. When you figure all self-inflicted wounds by accident, suicide or momentary insanity, the number of people killed by their own guns is almost double that of the murders ... and that includes counting the two of three dead in this situation. The difference between guns and knives and ropes and ham
  22. TP: I know that some states sought to criminalize video recording of authorities in public but later in 2011, the SCOTUS chose not to hear an appeal in effect invalidating those laws. The SCOTUS has, by refusing to hear circuit court appeals from states when the federal circuit courts asserted that recording officers when there is no expectation of privacy (which means on public property, sidewalks, etc. in plain view) affirmed the right to record officers despite state laws prohibiting it (These decisions specifically overturned those state laws prohibiting recording.) These decision
  23. I haven't seen the first bail bondsman from here even hint they planned to run for any office. I mentioned that because at the time the legislation was proposed - and it was statewide legislation - there was a suggestion that some legislator from south Georgia, who ethically would have to not vote for the measure, who was thinking of getting into the bail bond business. pubby
