  1. No one wants to be forced to buy anything. The same is true of people who own cars ... they don't want to buy insurance either. People don't like paying taxes either. And the last time I looked, almost 99 percent of the folks didn't like the idea of dying yet they have to do that too. Fact is, you could just about say that there is a percentage of people who are irresponsible risk takers - people who are gambling they can go without insurance and believe that if they are caught short and become sick or injured, the taxpayer will bail them out (Kind of like those who bankroll the GOP

  3. I want to know why the gun rights activists are not upset over this obvious violation of the second amendment? I think the black man showed a greater amount of courage in this situation than the two white open carry advocates shown earlier in the video. pubby
  4. What you are forgetting is that the effort was based on the Republican idea for health care. Liberal Democrats wanted the single payer but were pushed into the effort of keeping the system private, in part, by the lobbyists from the current system. This was the best idea that (the Heritage Foundation) came up with and the reason they rejected it is because ...well I think they knew it wouldn't work that well. But if you recall, in the run up to the 2008 campaign, every one of the GOP presidents were on board with this plan, known then as Romney Care. This is the best, easiest
  5. I think Roberts will likely vote against the change but I agree with you, I am perplexed that there is a tie between the secular government efforts and the spiritual. Indeed, the idea that church and state are separate is supposed to be the reality here. That the state can't politically differ from the church (churches) on this or any number of issues is hard for me to grasp. I suppose the answer is that churches are naturally exclusionary social institutions/communities whereas the whole truth of government is that it is for everyone whether we like it or not. pubby

  13. That "Uintended consequences" in the video is just another one of the unintended consequences out there. Speaking of 'unintended consequences' did anyone else get dinged for uploading a bit of the video from the air show? I ask that because on the main 'audience shot" where I panned the audience before the announcer opened the show, the music playing in the background was flagged by youtube as a violation of their copyright??? I claimed fair use but the Canadian outfit - I thought it was the Canadian National Anthem as it was in the prelude to the opening of the show - Koch Entertain

Harris says there has to be some way to distinguish between a Hitler and a GWB and he thinks it is in the realm of intentions. One of the stories exploring this appeared on RAWSTORY I replied there like this: pubby

  24. Sam Harris & Noam Chomsky Trade Nasty Emails Until A Winner Emerges... Published on May 14, 2015 "Sam Harris, the prominent secularist and neuroscientist, recently exchanged a series of heated emails with Noam Chomsky, a linguist and leading social and foreign policy critic since the 1960s. Their discussion was buzzworthy because both men are well-known public commentators with occasionally overlapping subject matter who have never shared a forum before. Unfortunately for Harris, who reached out to Chomsky initially, the conversation didn’t go as well for him as he seemed to hope it woul
