AP NEWS Update: Garland Texas shooting at Mohammed comic contest

I don't think we should be afraid to do that either ... But I am smart enough and well read enough that some of the wackos in that religion will act out and attack those who do. Indeed, the folks in Texas were smart enough and pretty much laid a trap for the guys who did show up. Their lifeless carcasses are proof that they were prepared. The number of SWAT equipped officers in the vicinity is ample proof that they were 'expecting' the attack. I contend they were hoping it would draw just such an incident as the payoff, for which they were also prepared, is the national publicity th -
I saw just a snipped of one report that suggested that the fire marshall and detectives in Baltimore are looking at some of the fires as acts of attempted murder ... premeditated murder I might ad ... as in targeting the fires at specific people. Mobs may loot and burn but if the target of the act is selected as part of an effort at revenge, what you have is a crime of opportunity ... i.e. the chance you might get away with a specific criminal act targeted toward a specific individual being covered up by it being misconceived as violence associated with a riot by some anonymous individual.

You knew your grandson was not a thug even though he dressed in a hoodie. I knew my daughter was not a thug either. Indeed, you identify Zimmerman as some lunatic and basically agree that, at least on that night, Trayvon Wilson was not doing anything wrong but rather was attacked by a lunatic who judged people based on how they look. In fact who should we all judge based on how they look. Lets see, Jesus would be some hippie. Doesn't Adolf Hitler and Mussolini look sharp in those well-tailored uniforms. Steven Hawking looks like a blathering idiot cripple. Einstein is some crazy Jew.

Every questionable shooting has involved 'unarmed' individuals or kids with toy guns. No one has questioned the first shooting of a civilian by a cop when the civilian was packing heat. Indeed, the only questionable issue was when the crazy white guy WITH A GUN came charging a cop telling the cop to shoot me, shoot me ... but the cop didn't. Indeed, it would appear that the police decline to shoot eight of ten armed and dangerous white guys while shooting and killing at least two in ten unarmed people of color because they disrespected the officers. No one has found them guilty

Not at all. However, if it was a draw L.Ron Hubbard event, we might see people spirited off and held incommunicado for ... years. pubby -
Actually they specifically say they do not save the images and instead discard them when you leave the site. It is facebook that asserts that uploading your images to their site gives them the ability to use that image in advertising. pubby

You would NJ ... and I don't blame you. I could predict that because what upsets them and you is defined with the same word - ethnocentrism. I will emphasize that it is a natural proclivity of human psychology. A more evolved sense of empathy allows a person to think of how their actions and words impact others. Indeed, the reason one doesn't use the N-word commonly today, like we all know was ubiquitous 55 years ago is because of that evolved sense of empathy. Of course some still use it though few avowed racists would drive to central Harlem or camp out in Atlanta's west end -
Actually, the perp in this case was well known to authorities and was a cousin to a NFL player who was wanted on some gun violations. From what I read of the incident in the NYTimes, the man ID'd the plainclothes officers and basically got the drop on them and fired before they could react. Given that the perp was armed and known dangerous, no one would have been outraged had the tables been turned and the perp was killed. He is in custody and the DA will be charging him with first degree murder. The gun, incidentally, has been found. I doubt a jury will be any more merciful than

I will say that I see some really cool marketing uses for this technology. You could take a picture of a crowd at an event (say a ball game) and determine the age and sex demographic of various sections ... i.e. the box seats vs. the bleachers. Assessing that information over time would relate to the success of advertising targeted, say, to bring a younger audience to the ball park. Alternately, by taking randomized images of a section of a mall testing the age of those who are identifiable, you could determine if a mall was the hot spot for youth or the walking trail for the elderly.

I found this bit rather revealing in that the authorities knew that they had a security issue and had addressed it. But there was little else to do as our society, while we can choose to show respect, values freedom of speech as a right ... even though holding a contest for the best depiction of Muhammad in a comic drawing is about as close as you get to yelling fire in a crowded theater. What the exhibition was doing, frankly, was baiting Islamists and they got the reaction they wanted but for us, it the call was obvious. It did make more sense in Texas than say, Detroit, where there -
When it suggest that 3000 Blacks in Tulsa died ... that is an exaggeration. From the wiki: You do state the obvious. But what you don't seem to grasp is that demonstrating is protected and when you piss off 5000 people enough to go to the streets and demonstrate, one-percent of that 5000 (or 50) may see the demonstration as an opportunity. I think we've seen that at all kinds of demonstrations from victory parties gone sour to the Boston Massacre - which was a reaction to a crime that John Adams got the police - I mean Red Coats - who shot Chrispus Attucks dead as the crowd pe

LPPT: That is how my daughter dressed a decade ago when she had an attack of pemphigus foliaceus, an autoimmune blistering disease of the skin with characteristic lesions that are scaly, crusted erosions, often on an erythematous base. I don't think she was ever a thug Thankfully she has recovered and has had no recurrance. Looks can be deceiving. pubby
