  2. I too am concerned about subterfuge ... You do know that money is the mothers milk of politics. The US has never been much of a 'democracy' but rather has been an oligarchy that has deep influence with the public through its provision of funding for campaigns and the choices that allows those with money to make. They choose and have always chosen the candidates and when some come forth naturally, they work very hard to co-opt them. This is why Winston Churchill said this is the worst system imaginable; except for all the others. What we have now are three local politicians
  3. Actually, surepip ... it is the other topic that we are at odds on ... not this one. And I don't feel I'm being boxed in as a hypocrite on this or the other topic. pubby
  4. Come on surepip ... It is up to the chairman to keep order in meetings and I have no problem with any of the folks speaking at the meetings. My objection is the requirement as a matter of ordinance that all the comments/exchanges be broadcast. Frankly, them being broadcast, will have little or no impact on the decisions the BOC makes. If they make any difference, it is in the moment and I frankly have no issue with people addressing government at the meetings although it is very rare that comments made at a meeting here have had the slightest impact on the predictable actions the
  5. They were on this site only in the context that if you play a video, you often are served several options to view additional videos when the one here ends. I sometimes find myself going down that rabbit hole. Neither do I understand why someone feels compelled to run around with an AR-15 slung over their shoulder. I assume it is some kind of macho fashion statement kind of like tighty-whities or caps with ear flaps. Personally, if I were a cop and confronted any of these folks - white/black/green/yellow/pink/red or splotched - and knowing that it is legal to open carry, I would
  6. So what you are saying to me about my ideas is shut up ... which is ....hummmmm "Censorship". I'm going to beat that horse until it happens. It is the only thing that will make a difference and I don't care if you think it is some far-fetched idea. As far as the idea that the only people that the constitution in the first amendment guarantees must hear your plea to government is the government. You have the right to petition government ... which means to talk to those folks behind the dais ... the folks in TV land, Internet Land and even in the audience of the meeting can, of thei
  7. That is not to mention that carrier groups can pretty much set up a base anywhere they choose although increases in surface to surface missiles with ranges up to 1000 miles makes their utility some what more problematic. pubby
  8. Whitey: Absolutely, there is gavel to gavel live casts of the legislature and Congress. So what is my problem with the commission meetings being gavel to gavel? In those bodies, non-elected citizens don't have the right to address the broadcast audience. You do know that the laws of the land would allow the KKK to address the commission and they could compel their 'testimony' to be broadcast. Same for the Black Panthers and I'm suspecting the Cuban Cafe. They don't have that problem at the legislature because There are no 'citizens' wishing to speak sessions held on the fl
  9. I note that you used different metrics - countries and soldiers with a list of countries where there are 10,000 soldiers or more - all of which avoid the issue of how many bases. Your answer to the number of bases is to avoid the question of the number of bases and confuse folks with other figures. Okay ... Here is video posted just a few hours ago that goes into the topic. I'm sure you'll say (again) don't believe your lying eyes. On the regulations: I know there are some stupid regulations. I also know that the regulators have, for the most part, been captured by the industries th
  10. First, I know a bit more about liable than you so I'm not concerned. Second, as the county attorney Lani Skipper pointed out when I met with Mr. Jones back in January, they'd looked at both me and surepip as targets of a libel action for his postings against the county over his lawsuit and determined both of us were 'suit-proof.' Second, the time line was that at the time of the primary elections, Propeller was still trying to do a deal with Briscoe Field in Gwinnette. That had not fallen through quite yet so there was no option for the locals to go after or to Propeller. Propelle
  11. I thought I made a post in this topic yesterday but apparently didn't hit the post button. I can say I went back to the post and noted that my embarrassment is not complete in that (fortunately) I did not post in the topic. Frankly, I was probably otherwise diverted ... probably working on a piece of property at the time and not paying much attention to the news. Sometimes real life interferes and you miss something or another. pubby
  12. There are three kinds of lies; lies, damned lies and statistics - Benjamin Disraeli We've got an 'empire' SDN ... We have over 900 foreign bases (both public and secret), our dollar is the standard for exchange and there are enormous profits that accrue to a portion of our citizens who participate in the international trade protected by those 900+ military bases. The point is that we have battleships and carrier groups and $1.5 trillion aircraft programs that contracts work in 350 of the 435 congressional districts plus another 35 foreign nations with all the 'deals' associated with
  13. What you're trying to do here surepip, is paint us as hypocrites and that's not true. I've been for airport commercialization from the get-go and Patti and Deena have been against airport commercialization from the get go. Part of the dynamic of the Pat and Patti show is that on-going argument. That understood, what we did decide to do is be honest with each other and recognize that we're going to have differences of opinion on policy. But the honesty had to do with loyalties. The second thing is that unlike those on the right, whose attitudes toward others is summed up in the st
  14. Two white men sought inMcPherson Road car burglaries (PauldingCounty, GA) The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office needs theassistance of the public in identifying two enteringauto/fraud suspects. On April 27, 2015 there were several entering autos thatoccurred on McPherson Church Road. As a result of theentering autos, one of the victims had their credit cardsstolen. A short time after the cards were reported stolen, thevictims alerted Detectives that the credit cards were usedat the QuikTrip gas station in Dallas, GA (491 Nathan DeanBoulevard Dallas, GA 30132). At that point, Detectives w
  15. No, the insinuation was that Sweden's tax income tax was high at 44 percent because they had universal single-payer health care that covers 100 percent of the people. The overall tax rate was not the topic ... the title of the topic is first had experiences with the ACA and Obamacare truths. The truth is that health care consumes less than 10 percent of GDP in Sweden and 18 percent plus here. pubby
  16. It would seem logical to me that the open carry advocates, who have posted dozens if not hundreds of videos of advocates being confronted by police, would feature black men in roughly 10-15 percent of them. Since I've viewed at least 30 of these videos in the past year or so, I would have expected to see blacks in other videos. Further, I am still amazed that open carry advocates - and I suppose given your comments in favor of concealed carry and dismissal of open carry - have not jumped on this one instance as a cause celeb; open carry being open carry. Indeed, if you want to assert
  17. First, I'm a good American Mutt. A lot of English, probably some Cherokee, definitely some German, French and Welsh - Hughes in the English context, but this element of the discussion is a diversion. speaking of ... here is a good rendition of why diversion in an argument is so powerful. 18. I And we didn't hear about it either. I wonder if that had to do with it being a month before the election. I know I missed it and I also know it could have raised questions critical to the governor. Oh well, our media is not biased, right pubby
  19. So, what you are saying is because some American doctor was attuned to and diagnosed a relatively rare condition, all American doctors are so capable and European and, particularly Irish doctors are so dumb that they can't so we have better health care. You can't draw conclusions like that from anecdote observations. There are good doctors and bad doctors everywhere. Indeed, one of the 'real objections' to obamacare are the requirements for issues and outcomes reporting and the importance that improvement in data collection and ultimately an improvement in determining courses of treatm
  20. SDN: The reality is that the aggregate of money spent on health care equals the percentage of GDP that is spent in the sector. That is how we know that health care costs us 18 percent of GDP on average. That we get crappy aggregate outcomes while paying 18 cents of every dollar made by everyone is how we know we are not getting value from the system. That the poor value was consuming 15-20 percent more a year dating back to the 60s showed the trajectory of costs and wastes in the system. That others countries have better outcomes while allocating percentages in the eight to ten perc
  21. Mei lan ... Present company, human beings and friends are always excepted. You fall into all three categories. pubby
  22. I understand your point Zorro but the plain fact is I've probably seen 20-30 open carry demonstrations on youtube and they all show the type of interaction shown with the white guy at the beginning of the one video. This is the first open carry with a black guy in the role. I would assume that open carry advocates/activists would have jumped up and down and raised holy hell if open carry protesters had been challenged in that manner. That said, I suspect there are not that many black open carry advocates willing to take what appears to be a extreme risk of injury or death ... much gre
  23. SDN: Two things. First, just watching television and I've been seeing ads for automobiles. All have four wheels, and engine and transmission but hte cost of them range from under $20,000 to over 100,000 for some pictured (M-. Comparing the prices of health insurance back in the period before obamacare is like comparing all the cars, new and used, you can buy on any given day. I.e. you're dealing with apples and oranges and peanuts and rice grains. Second, as an old Greek barkeep I knew - Angelo used to say you have to take the good with the bad. One of the advantages of hav
  24. Paulding's gun rights advocates ... Where are you ? .... crickets! pubby
  25. The result of that is tantamount to murder. Doubt this assertion, read this article in Forbes. An excerpt: A total free market in medical care means that all regulation must end. Heck, we can start going back to the barber for surgery and the soothsayer may can work some voodoo cheap to cure our cancer. Quacks will use spread sheets to optimize how many hypochondriacs they need to recruit and exploit to make a mint on placebos. In short, the free market is where we started with Dr. Josaia's Cocaine and Opium mixture for childhood headaches. I can't imagine anyone going ba
