  1. No. It's a Cobb county private school.
  2. Thank you!! And yes, I only have one Gucci bag and I got it in Rome! I'm printing this thread, thanks for all thee recommendations!
  3. My son's school paddles. When they get a "pink slip", they are sent to the principle's office and the parents are called. The principle will paddle, or give the parent's the option to come in and paddle (or handle it another way). There have only been 2 paddles in the last 5 years and if you want to see some scared straight kids, ask them about "pink slips". It's hilarious! As for the sentences - I see the point, but I'm not sure that it matters much one way or the other. I've always kinda laughed at these correlations - as if a 5 year old has the mental development for this to be har
  4. That's not what I meant! I just feel better speaking to you then bl!
  5. You're right MrsB, but I do know that the schools are a big part of the problem. The bigger piece, IMO, is the lack of male influence and the absent parents. I've posted before that I grew up in government housing with a single mom that was a factory worker. To keep me out of the schools, we used a family members address and she drove me everyday. I realize now what a luxury that was, not the good school, but for my mother to have a car. Until today, I thought that Philly was the worst...and it's certainly bad! I'm assured by the success stories that come out of those environments - and t
  6. I felt ashamed for being scared. I thought, "these are just people, just like me". In my heart, though, I know that's not true - and that truly made me sad. I drove home just wanting to do something. I've felt like that many times, and when you look at poverty - especially class poverty - you realize that it's bigger than one person (of course, that's not to say that one person can't make a difference!) As for other countries, I'm sure that there is much, much worse...but this was in the richest country in the world! I'm not a socialist or leftest by any stretch, but I do know that pov
  7. Oh and Naturegirl, I've been to the ghetto in Chicago, doesn't even compare!
  8. And yes, I was lost. My navigation actually navigated me there...and it navigated me out through all the side streets! What was shocking, which I saw in Philly as well, one street was "fine" - typical urban area - then...ghetto one block over. Yes! It made Bankhead Courts (if anyone remembers those) look like Buckhead.
  9. Every other house was boarded up, I had 2 people try to sell me drugs, there were liquor stores on every other corner. Here's a picture of what many of the streets looked like.
  10. And it's on the net for her son to watch. Forever.
  11. I just spent 30 minutes driving around the projects in Trenton, NJ. I have worked with the homeless for a long time and I've seen some bad places in Georgia and Florida, but never in my life have I seen something as horrific as Trenton. I have an understanding of poverty, but I don't understand how people live like this? I mean, if you're a child in this neighborhood, and you live to adulthood, I just don't know if you have a chance. I was truly scared, and I'm a pretty tough chick.
  12. Totally off topic, but I realized that when I get married, I'll be MrsA And yep, imma gonna change it to that on pcom!
  13. Thanks for all the compliments. I adore them!!
  14. They're biggest value is sentimental. They're very small; his dad gave them to his mom when they were first married.
  15. Brilliant. I love that Aaron Bonding in Athens put their name and phone number on all the bar/club bracelets!
  16. Here's a pic, though I took it from my mobile so it's not very good. Do you think it's going to hurt the appearance of the earring?
  17. I'm going to have these put on...do you think screwposts are better? The are vintage diamond studs, so I am a little concerned about the leverbacks changing the look of the earring.
  18. Just called the jeweler - leverbacks are what they're called.
  19. I'm using those top ones, though they don't seem to lock - even though there is a notch on the post. I wonder if my lobes are too fat (by the way, I never in my life thought that statement would come from mouth).
  20. DSO gave me a pair of earrings that belonged to his now past mom. I've actually lost one of the earrings twice and found it by the grace of God (and maybe some intervention from his mom above)...I've gotten so scared of losing one that I've stopped wearing them. Is there some kind of different back that I can have put on? It's just a post right now.
  21. When do you need it? I'm happy to go by and get it for you today on my way to the airport, but I won't be home until Monday.
  22. http://www.trapster.com/ Users submit speed traps, enforcement cameras, and road hazards, that then alert all Trapster users in the area. A high-tech version of flashing your headlights to alert drivers of potential road hazards. If you use your phone for nav, it will show you all of these. Stoked, and downloading. People are up in arms about it alerting people to DUI check points.
  23. I would sister, but with a little luck my aluminum tube will already be in the air.
