  1. Yes. These days you really have to evaluate your situation. I honestly wouldn't even recommend home buying for someone in sb's situation, only because I know he's only been married for a couple of months. Of course, I feel the same about children and there are plenty of folks that want honeymoon babies. Homes, in these modern times, are a liability, not an asset. This is just one person's opinion, of course. That said, the stability is a plus for a young family. For a couple not too far away from retirement, it's a terrible idea. All about the situation. ETA: I read this and realiz
  2. I loathe a lot of "types" of people - mostly because I used to be a type. But that's not important. Recently, my disdain for the Lance Armstrong wannabes of the world as morphed over into the hipster world. I have known a few of these hipsters, but they really circled around the gay scene. This is somehow acceptable to me, to be a gay hipster. Somehow, that's the original hipster. I started hating them last year when I was in Boston, but they were still isolated to the city and L5P. Now I'm seeing them pop up right here in Vinings. I did find a funny website for others that may h
  3. I've said it before. Just put all of those that want to forgo the screening on a separate plane. It would be nice to see a NEXUS to domestic travel. The one thing that all of these terrorists have in common is that they can't pass a background check. Well, not a thorough one like NEXUS. Of course, then people would gripe that you either have to scan your retina or get groped.
  4. Totally cute area. Great schools and very, very good deals in that area right now. East Cobb (not that I want you grocery shopping at the same places) has great deals right now as well and it's a more established area that won't degrade much further due to the lack of "starter homes". There were 700 of them for sale in Lakeside at Ansley, which is a great neighborhood that is more reasonably priced. Anything you buy, you really should be thinking about being in for 10 years...and that 10 years goes by so quick!
  5. Short sales are very complicated, because even if you're paying what they bank is willing to take, it's still not what is owed on the note. If it were, then it wouldn't be a short sale. The preapprovals help, but remember that it's based on market value. Look at it like this. Jim and Betty buy their house in Alpharetta for $400K in 2000, at the time it appraises for $625K. They get an ARM thinking that they'll make money, so at short sale (which is a foreclosure) in 2010, they still owe $400K. The house appraises now at $350K. The bank agrees to the "pre-approval" rate of 80% of fair
  6. Nope. Short sales are what they are. Cheap, as is, and lengthy. You're paying half of the original value and a lot of people are getting screwed in the process...cept you. You're getting a deal. If you don't want to go through the process, I believe that the banks will let you put in an offer at the defaulted loan amount. But, I'm guessing if you could afford that amount, you probably wouldn't be looking at short sales. The whole thing makes me sad. And worse yet, because of it all those of us looking to get jumbo mortgages also face an undesired headache. Since you're a first time ho
  7. I just don't get it. In order to rent a car, you have to have a license. In order to go to public school, you have to immunize. These things are all done for the greater good of society. If you think about it, I think it's pretty darn scary that there is NO screening in the NYC subway system.
  8. Oh I just watched it...not only does literally sound like an idiot with that retainer in his mouth, but he's so helplessly stupid.. Hot mess.
  9. I just walked through the scanner. You guys are batty if you think those scanners are giving you cancer. Xray technology has been around forever - you probably get more radiation from your microwave. You can skip the screenings by chartering your own plane or by driving. Otherwise, you're SLOWING ME DOWN. I'm flying twice this week - at least I know that I need to leave extra time for the people that will be pissing and moaning to TSA.
  10. They're probably completely unrelated, and they've both very obviously moved on... But, I would have said, "yes, but can we wait to tell the rest of the WORLD"?
  11. The only difference I've seen is that the body scanners are there. I was pulled into one 2 weeks ago, which was odd, but I bet that they're pulling in more than usual in order to make sure everyone is "trained".
  12. Random patdowns have been in place forever...so have random luggage checks. Which I find more intrusive because I like to fly with my "toys" on long business trips.
  13. Jessica Simpson is engaged to her boyfriend of less than 6 months... Sadly, this was announced not even 2 weeks after her ex, Nick, announced his engagement to his long time girlfriend. Full Story No way she can come out looking anything short of DESPERATE.
  14. What "new policies"? The only people that I ever hear complain are the people that never travel. It hasn't taken me longer than 20 minutes to get through Hartsfield in years.
  15. We're trying to go to Turks for the holidays, but hotels are tough. He suggested St. John, but we've already been there (twice) and I really wanted to go so place new. Still, it looks like all inclusive in St. John or pay on our own in Turks. Is Turks really worth it? We are BIG drinkers.
  16. Alaska is WAY different than the tropics! And I really enjoyed Jamaica - I wouldn't get married there (we're getting married at the Four Seasons in Bora Bora), but it's a nice, inexpensive and quick jaunt to someplace warm! Shan's wedding was so adorable. You could see the love in everyone there.
  17. Name the one hit wonder sang by.....Benny Mardones.
  18. Surely, you remember Heart and Soul....but did you know T'Pau sang it?? Post your favorite 80's song!
  19. http://moderndrunkardmagazine.com Yes, you can get a magazine for your drunk friends and family.
  20. And the ring. Don't forget the ring! Great advice.
  21. I'm DGITW, and when I can't sleep...instead of counting sheep, I run through the list of guys I've slept with.
  22. But the real questions is, am I hot or not??? Avatar hunting...
