  1. Grandmama C - I believe that the GSP should write the fatality accidents - they have the expertise for this in the SCRT.

My comments are based on what I hear everyday on the scanner.

If there is a MVA, our SO shows up on scene. They make sure everyone is well. They then call to dispatch for a ETA of GSP? 99% of the time GSP is "extended" 30+ minutes. So, our officer sits there on the side of the road for 30+ minutes waiting on the Trooper to show up. He then goes on his way, most likely to the next MVA, burglar alarm call, or whatever may come his/her way.

Sometimes officers do write reports if the GSP is very extended. Or, they talk the parties into settling the incident without report - stating that it is going to be a while for the Trooper.

In my thinking, the officer in my example would provide a better service to all of us if he would take the 5-10 minutes to write the report and then be on his way. He would have more time to patrol, write traffic citations, and be there should the "big one" come down. There may be more office time filing reports - I don't know about this.

These officers are trained to write these reports. The sheriff thinks he is getting them out of a possible court visit. Well, the officer is wasting a great part of his day waiting on the GSP.

So, you say, where is the GSP - they just need more Troopers to service our area and give us better service, right?

Well, on a good day we might have 2 troopers to service the entire area. The GSP does not get budget to replace men that retire. In 2004 when I studied this subject at length, the GSP post that serves us only had 75% of the manpower that they were supposed to have. Correspondence with Rep. Richardson basically said "times are hard and even the GSP needs to suck it up and make due with what they have."

In 2004, Ken Ball had a message of empowering our officers and enabling them to fully write accident reports. I fully support that - any candidate that has that message will have my vote.

Thanks Freebird for the info I wasn't too sure how it worked down here. It seems like its a duplication of services.

  2. Not to Hijack the thread because honestly I don't who works where I just try and help by donating things (I get too emotionally attached to do anything more). I would like to thank HaleyNicole because I got Jakes before he went to the shelter. I am also proud that my other 2 came from the Fulton county shelter. I found my babies on the internet. Yup it was their pictures that said take me home. I'm sorry I can't take them all home.

So wherever you work Shelter or Animal Control- Keep up the good work!!!

  3. I just thought it was part of their jobs as police officers. I mean its not that hard to fill out a report. When there is any other type of report like missing persons or thefts do they wait on someone else to do it? I'm just trying to understand what they get paid for- ( not a bash or derogertory comment on LEO)

I mean they do fill out tickets right?

  4. I'm from Michigan but when I was involved in an accident up there the police showed up and wrote up the report. I don't know why you would have to wait on someone else to come if its a small accident like a fender bender. To need 2 departments to show up to the same scene seems like a waste- JMO please no bashing :)

  5. Well since I have never had a claim I hate them. All I do is give them money! Insurance is such a scam IMO.

I never deal with them because the auto's are payrol deducted through my employer and the house is escrowed.

Us too. Everytime we have to call them they have no clue what they are doing

  6. did any notice that they are "pale" this year? they are not looking the same - whether you consider them a pest or a sign or good luck or "aphid killers"/ helpers .....

    Yup I noticed this too

  7. I appreciate and thank all the vets. My family has a ton of them. I don't get into the political debates often because everyone is entilitled to their opinion and it seems those topics turn nasty and personal. The animals do offer updates and I have pets so I feel i have some experience with them.I don't care much about celebrities either they are just over rated people in my opinion. I am not a vet and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do than offer my thanks. Just know that you are appreciated. :)

  8. No I don't get it. The whole idea here is to get as many people praying as possible, using the media to spread the word is key to that.

Do we have to be cynical about everything?

So the Governor needs to tell people to pray? I thought he was doing this as a private citizen and not in an an official capacity as Governor.

Read Tbars post and I'm sure he is using the media as a Governor, I don't think they would print a story If I told them I was going to pray for rain JMO
