Stamps to Cost a Penny More

Monday February 11, 3:52 pm ET

By Randolph E. Schmid, Associated Press Writer

Mailing a Letter Will Cost a Penny More Starting in May

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Mailing a letter will soon cost a penny more.

The cost of a first-class stamp will rise to 42 cents starting May 12, the U.S. Postal Service said Monday.

The price of the Forever stamp will go up at the same time, meaning those stamps can still be purchased for 41 cents but will remain good for first-class postage after the rate increase takes effect

The post office has sold 5 billion Forever stamps since they were introduced last April and plans to have an additional 5 billion in stock to meet the expected demand before the May price change, the agency said.

The charge for other services, such as advertising mail, periodicals, packages special services will also change. Changes in the price for Priority Mail and Express Mail will be announced later, the agency said.

Postage rates last went up in May, 2007, with a first-class stamp jumping 2 cents to the current 41-cent rate.

In the past raising postage rates was a long, complex process involving hearings before the independent Postal Regulatory Commission, a process that could take nearly a year.

However, under the new law regulating the post office that took effect in late 2006, the agency is allowed to increase rates with 45-days notice as long as changes are within the rate of inflation for the previous 12 months. The Postal Regulatory Commission calculated that rate at 2.9 percent through January, limiting the first-class rate to an increase of just over a penny.

Under the new law, postal prices will be adjusted annually each May, the Postal Service said. Officials said they plan to give 90 days notice of future changes, twice what is required by law.

While the charge for the first ounce of a first-class letter rises to 42 cents, the price of each added ounce will remain 17 cents, so a two-ounce letter will go up a penny to 59 cents.

The cost to mail a post card will also go up a penny, to 27 cents

Other increases set for May 12:

    -- Large envelope, 2 ounces, $1, up 3 cents.

-- Money Orders up to $500, $1.05, unchanged.

    -- Certified mail, $2.70, up 5 cents.

-- First-class international letter to Canada or Mexico, 72 cents, up 3 cents.

-- First-class international letter to other countries, 94 cents, up 4 cents.

  2. Our dogs are indoor dogs but they are protective of their property. We also have neighbors who are loud and are coming and going all hours of the night. The dogs will now do a little bark to "alert" us to these developments however we probably already heard the neighbors before the dogs barked. -_- The one used to bark a lot but I think he is finally comfortable with how it is around here after a year. I'm sorry I don't have any advice.

  3. Here we go...

I will be dressed in a pair of jeans, tennis shoes and a michigan hoodie. If Matt Millen is still the Lions GM I will have a sign that says fire Millen in one hand my other hand will be flipping of a picture of the Colorado Aves logo that is afixed to the top of the casket. I will be burried with a box of cigars and a case of Sam Adams as it is rude to show up to the party with out gifts.

Some sort of Eye candy (read women in short skirts and bikni tops) will be the ushers and when they wheel my casket to the front of the church the millions and millions of my fans will chant my name.

Everyone will have to pay $5 bucks to get their big ole red dixie cup for the kegs that will be in the back (A tribute to my college years, money raised will go to the Humane Soceity - (one of you cheap bastards better pony up the kegs, I'm dead for God sake.)

Dinner of steak, loaded baked potatos, buffalo wings, chicken fingers and tacos will be served by the above mentioned eye candy.

Cigars will be smoked in my honor.

As they put me in the lifted pick up style hearst everyone will pour out some beer for their "homo" as the Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter plays, as I drive off you will hear Bob Segers Famous Final Scence.

Women will weep, men will say thank God the SOB is finally gone.

This topic makes me sad :( but i found your post to be interesting kinda like how you wanted to plan the wedding :p

Last line of your post

Sorry for any butchering of the english language while making this post

  4. The fact is I don't care you will never know the whole story. Most people who need help don't ask for it. There was one post in the original thread that was talking about going to peoples homes and seeing what cars they drive.

They don't need a group of people who paid 100 dollars judging them. You don't understand how some people have to pay a god awful amount for a car? But you can judge? and I'm sorry just because I disagree with this whole thing doesn't make me dumb or any of you better than me. JMO

  5. Maybe it is just me but I have read over and over where the need will be put out to ALL to see, so any and all can do what they feel like to help, in what ever way they can.The Only thing that will not be out for all to see is the very first post asking for help. I also seem to have missed the post about the CC board being announced soon please let me know which one that was. Maybe I am wrong but that is what I have understood.

You need to check under the forums there is one set up for the CC it's one post from Pubby.

  6. It was mentioned earlier today in a thread that the board members would be announced soon - for some reason I can't find it to link to it. As for how and who - no mention, which is one reason why I will wait and see what happens before donating my money.

Its under the comunity chest forum. A simple statement by Pubby. Hope this helps ;)
