One of my daughters works for a veterinarian. A man came in today to have his sick dog Charlie put to sleep. He read this out loud as he said goodbye. 8,028,000 minutes I called you my friend Charlie, I called you my friend for 8,028,000 minutes of my life. Minute 1: I took you out of the cage on May 9, 1998, you jumped into my arms and kissed my face. I thought I chose you but I was wrongyou chose me. As I was signing the adoption papers I asked the lady how they found you and she said you were put on the side of the road on interstate I- 285 and Cobb parkway. I put you in m

When it comes to economic development that are things needed that only the IBA can legally do. You don't throw the baby out with the bath water. I do think there should be term limits on how long they can serve. All organizations benefit from a fresh set of ideas and a different view. As many have pointed out the leadership has begun to get tunnel vision when it comes to some things. Many many businesses have come to this community to look at we have to offer. It is no different than house hunting. They have specific needs, either we have it or we don't. We also have a lot of criteri

The more I look into the issue of commercializing the airport the less I believe that we will ever see significant commercial passenger service at the airport. Delta is free to spend as much as they want preventing it. I am still doing some research on some issues that surround commercialization. It will probably be a done deal before any new commissioners take office. I am pretty sure the environmental impact study will be done by then. I certainly would not base my vote on anything to do with the airport. That is why I want a well rounded commissioners in those post. I am mor

I know the issues we are facing are very complex. It is not a matter of what you as an official like or dislike. Many of the decisions made are governed by law. Your not going to step into a commissioners seat and do as you please. There is a lot to learn about the details and complexities of many of the things the county is involved with. There are many contracts that will have to be honored whether a commissioner likes it or not. I have seen enough to totally ignore specific promises. I look at the ability of a commissioner to consider the entire county instead of the special interes

I guess sabotaging it and fighting it are the same thing. I had a discussion with someone today that I have always admired because this person is so smart. Unfortunately they get their info from the types of links that Mrs Howard is fond of posting. It was hard to get a word in edgewise as I had to listen to the same garbage verbatim. This person said we did not need to reform healthcare we had a mechanism in place to help them called Medicaid. This person was shocked to learn that Medicaid does not provide medical care for adults unless they are pregnant or disabled. On top of that this- 230 replies

You know, the majority of Americans needed and wanted healthcare reform. People in their heart of hearts wanted it to work. It is disgusting that people are happy to see the problems with it based on their dislike of this president. Many out there wanted it to hurt the American people to prove how bad this president is. It is a scary world that we have created in the states. It is no wonder we are no longer respected by the rest of the world. They also have reason to fear us when they see how far our leadership will go for vote pandering. What has happened with healthcare reform will be lo- 230 replies

Thanks for answering my question. I was just curious about your experience with the exchange. My insurance company called me and gave me the choice. The reformed policy offered more at the same or lower price depending on which one I went with.- 230 replies

Does it ever occur to any of you the lack of participation in healthcare reform from the ultra conservative right has played a big part in the issues with it. The Republicans have known for years that reform was needed and have been too chicken hearted to touch it. When someone finally got the balls to try it all they could do is be obstructionist. He was right, the premise is sound. Maybe the Republicans will try and help the people of this country by finding a way to bring the prices down. Of course they are so afraid of making a democrat look good they would sit on their hands while 1/2 of- 230 replies

The study I linked said that policies bought through the exchange were higher. Did you have to go through the exchange because of pre-existing or did you go that way hoping to get some assistance? The idea of the exchange was spreading the risk for companies being forced to accept pre-existing. The study shows just how wonky the whole insurance thing is. It might be worth it to try going around the exchange if they have to insure you for pre-existing with or without the exchange.- 230 replies

No discussion about the BOC creating a citizen oversight committee

My understanding of Mr. Swaffords job description is one of leadership where he looks at opportunity and options. He presents these to the boards for approval. He decides what needs to be done at an industrial sites, infrastructure, sewer, site planning, decides on the developer, engages the engineering firms ect. He gets the plans, has legal council deal with contracts then goes to these boards for permission to go ahead and the checks are cut for these projects. A fall guy to me is one that has no authority yet is blamed for everything that goes bad. That description seems to fit what is -

I still believe a national healthcare bank separate from the government is ideal with 2 elected doctors from every state overseeing it and approving drugs and procedures. I believe there is a conflict between healers and those that lose their profits when people are cured. My biggest fear is the government seeing all that money in a fund and deciding some needs to go to building bridges,- 230 replies

I hope everyone clicks through and sees the fact that they are paying more through the exchange. I have been playing with Kaiser site avoiding the exchange rates by changing the filters. I am going to share with my daughter, /Their complaint is that with a 4000.00 ded they will never get any healthcare paid for. Kaiser has a copay and you only apply your deductible to services not offered. They have been searching and are very upset. I am anxious for Wellstar to get their health system up and running. I know with Kaiser you can't see just anyone, but they have a lot to choose from and I love- 230 replies

I did not mean to insinuate that I thought it was going well. In my own household we are struggling with the reality as my kids are young adults. The premise is sound, the reality is trying to leave an industry involved in healthcare that has no business in it. They provide nothing but a money handling fee and I have said that all along. The report is interesting in that is shows insurance companies using the exchange to gouge the American people even further. I don't know what it will take for the American people to say we have had enough when it comes to health insurance companies.- 230 replies

Here is a source I trust that shows the failure of trying to include insurance companies as part of the reform process. If you really want to get angry check the states that took the money and see how much their policies are without subsidies and how badly the taxpayer is being gouged for the subsidies. It simply is not going to work with insurance companies. http://www.nationalcenter.org/NPA656.html- 230 replies

I thought it was a good decision, lets hope it happens sooner than later. Did I hear Tommy right in that Blake Swafford can no longer wear both hats directing both boards. I wonder which he will stay on and which he will let go if he even has a choice? I have some reservations about who will be chosen and will they ask the important questions and have relevant input or just go along to get along. I wondered just how long the commissioners were going to take the heat for the decisions being made on these boards. Tommy made it clear he had no intentions of funding them again because of

Sorry I was flip about the aspirin and I hope you did not take it as being harsh on the hospital, it was just the opposite. Our hospitals are truly suffering trying to get the money they work for. The money is ending up paying 1000's to process and fight over claims. I understand exactly what the problems are. I have said it many times the only people that should receive healthcare dollars are those that help patients. There is no easy or painless way to do this. I am going without things to pay my premiums. I just figure it is better than losing everything we worked for. While I might tap out- 230 replies

My yard - a winter mud bath; don't think the grass will come back
LPPT replied to MissSophie's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Miss Sophie the key is knowing when to plant grass seed. We use fescue, you do best to seed in Febuary and cover with straw. Fescue won't germinate over 80 degrees. You can rake up your straw, put down your fescue with a starter fertilizer and lime. Cover with the hay. You may be able to get it to grow because Easter is late this year. You will need to water it when it is not raining to force faster germination so far into the season. I believe you can over seed with Bermuda seed when it gets warmer. I would be glad to help you. Be warned that you will spend about 100.00 on seed, fertilizer, a -
A friend of mine tried a well known moving company, told them not to come back the next day to finish. She put out the word that she was looking for some hard working young men. She took the amount that she would have paid the professional, split it between the 5 young men that worked hard and finished the job at the end of the day. My son was one of them, he worked very hard and was paid well. I am not advertising him to work, I am just relaying me friends experience.

You have a good point, if we put another Republican in the Whitehouse the first thing he will do is deregulate the insurance companies and they will have a windfall bleeding us dry. Healthcare systems will purchase in bulk just like other countries do. American are the only people that pay full price for these things. We basically pay the profit on pharmaceuticals for the world. You are talking about what could happen. There is a big difference in what could happen and what will happen. The reform is set up to work as I have described it. If it does not we only have our legislatures to blame.- 230 replies

I will explain it to you one more time and hopefully you will catch on this time. Lets say Georgia has 2 million people that don't make enough money to pay the 400.00 a month insurance premium out there. When they get sick or injured they go to the emergency room. On release they are handed a 10,000 bill and told they will be contacted by the hospital to start a payment plan. Now this is the same bill they would send to an insurance company with the 10,00 aspirin that literally pays the nurse for the 10 minutes of her time to run it to the room and document it. If they sent this to an insu- 230 replies

Florida did not take the Fed. Medicaid package. It has been 3 months since it started, we are in transition. The Medicaid money was intended to level out the amount of money the healthcare system had on hand.. It stops the process of gouging insurance to cover cost. That was intended to drive insurance cost down. Our system was such a mess to begin with how could everyone expect it to be perfect over night. It was not a hard transition for me, I have been with a healthcare system for 8 years I know how it works. It is simple your monthly payments go into a medical system and all that mo- 230 replies

Try to hang on until the federal Medicaid money is accepted here. They will then take whatever amount you can pay. In Georgia we are no better off then before healthcare reform because we did not take the Medicaid meant to temporarily get us through the transition.- 230 replies
