  1. The above doesn't sound "neutral" -- I was just asking for what makes someone "too far right" as opposed to "just right enough." You raised the distinction, I didn't. If you wish to leave the specific candidate and issue out of it, that's fine. But when you say you're eliminating someone from consideration for being "too far right" and then won't say what makes it "too far" instead of "just far enough" -- it's hard to know what you actually mean. P.S. I don't believe that you have to "stay neutral." You take your position and the chips fall where they fall.
  2. Speaking of "too far right," which issue and candidate would you use as an example of "too far right" and how would that position have to be modified to be just "conservative" and not "too far right." Basically - what is the difference between "too far right" and "just right enough" on that issue?
  3. Saw this on the news Sunday. The costumes look like they were too tacky for Frederick's of Hollywood. The choreography is s_utty -- add l or m. This is inappropriate movement and costuming for such young girls, but it is unsurprising given our culture's steady, ongoing sexualization of children. Every year, in the name of some kind of mockery of true creativity, someone pushes the boundaries just a little further so they can feel like an artistic pioneer, and they'll claim any challenge to their "art" as prudishness from uptight, repressed, Puritanical fun-haters. It's the textbook
  4. No - some people are reacting to invented offenses.
  5. I don't think it's so much a criticism of whether she "earned it" or not. It's a known fact that the judging/administration of pageants act on their sometimes politicized biases. Given the world we live in today, and recent history in pageants, it's not a stretch to make an observation that there might be political forces in play beyond just what was seen on the tube. In my view that's more a question of the pageant than a "disgusting" slam at the girl, who certainly seems nice enough and deserves congratulations all the same. Cheers!
  6. I'm hopeful that I can make this.
  7. I've been supporting Karen Handel's campaign since before she declared.
  8. Good post, Pat. I'd give it +1 if you submitted yourself to review like the rest of us.
  9. Color me skeptical, but I'm glad y'all are having fun!
  10. This idea has been used in other settings, too -- I remember reading about sites where you could rate college professors, girlfriends/boyfriends, neighbors, etc. It seems logical that bosses would be in the mix, too!
  11. I try to pay it forward with events all year long, but the most visible one is the charity show at the theater each summer. I ate lunch at a place yesterday (Normans Landing in Cumming) which has, over the last 15 years, donated a million dollars worth of food to non-profit events. A *million* dollars worth of food! Bit by bit, giving a little something along the way. Just like you, michegirl!
  12. Thanks Dr. George! I love doing this and I am glad there is a way to do it so that others benefit, too!
  13. You can watch a lot of the skits online here: http://www.hulu.com/search?query=Saturday+Night+Live+betty+white&st=0
  14. I cannot believe that you're going to let him have a dangerous banana peel in his possession at school. Have you no concern for the safety of others? Slipping on a banana peel is a recipe for a broken neck, and it's not like we haven't been warned about this before. It happens almost every time you see a cartoon, or an unsuspecting clown taking a stroll at a circus, for example. Every time you turn around, someone is slipping on a banana peel. This is a menace that must be stopped, and yet people are still sending children to school armed with these potassium-laced death machines. I c
  15. Betty White is something special. Maybe not Kennedy Center Honors special, but still, a performer whose appeal has spanned that many decades and still inspires young people to actively recruit her onto a current television show? That's pretty good stuff in my view of the entertainment industry. I wish I could be as unspecial as she!
  16. Enjoyed it. Apparently the current SNL writers are mostly limited to sexual humor. NPR skit, 1905 lesbian skit, etc. It was funny to play against type with an elderly lady... the first dozen times. Then it sort of became trite. Still - lots of good moments and I'm glad I stayed up to watch it. The census skit was cute. The digital short film with her doing a death/metal version of "Thank You For Being A Friend" was inspired. Wizard. Of. Ass!
  17. Getting ready to watch Betty White host Saturday Night Live. I love her work! Hope this is good!

  19. If more people of both genders woke up to the apparently inconceivable (?) realization that they were not slaves to their genitalia, and that they actually had and still have the ability to keep their damn pants on, or keep their damn knees together, then the pill wouldn't have been the cultural revolution it was. The pill was a major event because everybody wanted to have the ability to be just as promiscuous and irresponsible with their sexuality as the people they most despised.
  20. Birth control isn't necessary because women were "slaves to their uteruses.' It exists mainly because women and men behave as though they were slaves to their genitalia. That is all.
  21. Umm... the real Snopes disputes this and offers this link: http://www.911dispatch.com/911/mobilenumbers.html
