I had such high hopes going in to today's game. It's looking bad.

I grew up with an alcoholic father and a mother who was abused by her father. My mother was loving and did the best she could but my father was emotionally abusive, always telling me how stupid I was. He eventually stopped drinking and treated me better. Over time, I learned to deal with it and realize it wasn't my fault but it took me a long time. I lacked confidence and used alcohol and drugs to feel better. I think there is an unhealthy obsession with virginity in the Bible Belt. Most girls begin menstruation by age 11 or 12 at the latest and boys develop sexually by 12 or 13 at the latest. Expecting kids to remain virgins is unrealistic unless they marry young which usually yields disasterous results. Instead of obsessing on chastity, teach kids about the work involved in raising children and teach sex ed. but still encourage them to wait for the right person or when they feel ready and not pressured. They may not wait until marriage but at least they'll be more prepared when the time comes.
