Can anyone recommend a good, informative book that I can get for middleschooler, his new chosen name for Pcom, that addresses body changes, mood changes, etc? I keep seeing those same words over and over and while I don't disagree with them to a point, the behaviors I witnessed in several adults in different situations in Hiram on Thursday makes me wonder how a kid is supposed to act decent when their parents don't. In the cases I saw, the kids were certainly learning by example. When common courtesies such as saying 'thank you' and 'excuse me' aren't observed and used by 40 year olds and up, while their kids are watching and supposedly learning, where is the hope for the youth? I think inherently you want to give someone the benefit of the doubt even if their behavior is less than honorable. I think it's hard to believe that the person you love is the same one who hurts you. And even if you know better, that it will happen again, you convince yourself that it won't because that's the only way you can cope. Looking back to my mother, she was a widow at 24 with a 6 year old and pregnant with me. She saw someone who promised to take care of all of us and in 1964 things were a lot different. Like you, I thought the nursing home would handle these things, not so in our case. I would guess that there are 'grades' of homes where the more you pay, the more they do, but I'm not sure.

I read these stories of abuse and it makes me sad. I saw my mother abused by 2 different men and I never understood why she stayed. I made a vow to myself early on that that would not be my life.
