What kind of charities to contribute to...........

Weeeeel, aside from the obvious short comings of the site, there are often touching dog stories and soldier stories, but inappropriateness abounds on a regular basis!! -

Has anyone been to the meadow today? I was wondering how the crowds looked?

We've done Wounded Warrior too. Hubby frequents a web site called EHOWA (and no, I'm not telling what the letters stand for  ) and the owner of the site has a soft spot for the military and vets. He has a drive every Christmas to get soldiers home to their families for the holidays by buying plane tickets and we have donated to that for 4 years in a row. We do RM house too because I always wonder what I'd do in that situation. I think I give away a lot more money than I thought I did. -
No kidding! Salaries may get cut but product cost will never go down. Can anyone name a single example where that has happened? Another thing that bothers me about this whole discussion is this, where would we ALL be without minimum wage workers? Forget fast food, what about cashiers at practically any retailer, office workers, truck drivers, etc. So many of these people make minimum wage and they are trying to support families while doing it. When you have employers who won't pay anymore than MW, whether it be a huge chain or a mom and pop, and you have people desperate for a job, what ar

I agree. With us, kids charities come first. I love animals and veggies are OK, but I have to help humans first. -
Thrift stores and estate sales would be a good starting point. Good luck!

If you have XXX amount of dollars to donate, who gets the money? A childrens charity? Animals? I even saw someone competing on TV the other day to win money to preserve heirloom vegetable seeds.........now that one I DON'T get.

Poor animal control, all they get is complaints! But I may be making one myself soon because the new neighbors dog WILL NOT stay out of my yard. I Have no problem with an occasional visit, but Thursday, it came running out of it's own yard and made a beeline for my granddaughter waiting in the driveway for her bus, all the while barking, growling and snarling. I couldn't get to her fast enough because I was on the porch, so I yelled very loudly and threw a tennis ball at it. Amazingly enough, I made contact, it yelped and went back home. But it was in MY driveway and I'm convinced that it woul

Darn good post!!!! I've seen too many middle aged men specifically, who are obviously intelligent, working at Chik-Fil-A or Burger King recently to pass judgement on why they're there. You work 20+ years at a lucrative job, buy a house, have a family and one day, BOOM, that job is gone for whatever reason. And chances are, other jobs with like pay are going to younger, less experienced people who will work for half of what you did. So, what do you do, swallow your pride and take a job at fast food to try and save yourself? Or do you sit at home and do nothing for fear that people will see you

Who in the HECK FIRE comes up with this stuff? Who thought one day, 'Hey, let's use dry ice as a delivery system for getting drunk'? I'm with you, whatever happened to shots? If I'm not mistaken, inhaling the vapors from dry ice is very bad for the lungs. What fools!

Why does this guy seem so desperate to keep his name in the news? If I had been acquitted of a death that so many still think I'm guilty of, I think I'd lay a little lower than 'rescuing people' and continuing to get stopped for speeding. But maybe that's just me.

IRS Rule Leads Restaurants to Rethink Automatic Tips
dawneykids replied to barrycdog's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Automatic tipping is never a good idea where I'm concerned because I normally tip more than the percentage that they apply themselves if I get good service. Also, I think that if you're guaranteed 18%, service can suffer because where is your incentive to do a good job to get a good tip that you actually earned? But, on the other hand, I know people who don't tip well or at all regardless of the service they get. Those aren't my favorite people. -
I second, third and fourth that. Also, get one close to where you're moving to or from and not one across town because you are charged mileage in addition to the rental rate. You don't want to drive 10 miles to get it and drive it 10 miles back, completely out of your way because the miles add up fast. Remember to replace the fuel to what it was when you picked it up or they charge you 2 arms and a leg for the same gas you can get yourself. Been there, done that more than once.

Us too.

Meeeee neither, yukky wukky! And I don't know who this Charlie guy is, but my daughter surely does. She almost swooned when she read who was playing the fine gentleman from the book. That is one of my favorite all time movies. I LOVE James Spader, he's always a weird guy. And this movie isn't for everyone, that's for sure.

Try pawn shops, I was looking for a banjo recently and I remember seeing what I think was a 'pop-up' at Patriot Pawn. OH maaaaan.......I LOVE the one with the Eiffel Tower! Those are very unique!

You're very welcome! And to anyone who likes really pretty, unique, sparkling baubles, you don't want to miss this booth........TRUST ME!!! It's BEAUTIFUL!!!

I thought it was just about kinky sex and taboo subjects. Why on earth did this book series blow up like it did with women when it portrays the exact thing women say they don't want? There's plenty of erotica out there that doesn't include the things you mentioned above.
