  1. It's not going to get better, I'm afraid. I think that no one will be surprised to find out that the end has come for Charlie.
  2. Let's not make this personal. I'm happy to extend the opportunity for good conversation without prejudice.
  3. Let's talk about "second" for a minute. Why do we "have to assume" that? My assumption is that the woman was not watching where she was going or else she wouldn't have stepped in the crack. I was walking ON a curb not too long ago and twisted my ankle. The curb was about 4 - 6 inches wide and had cracks in it. My foot fell off the side because my balance is not as good as it was when I was 10. Nobody's fault but my own. If I had to have my foot amputated, it would STILL be my fault. The severity of the injury has nothing at all to do with who is at fault. I don't recall ever walking on a
  4. If it had been REALLY "not even funny" -- the drywall would not be dry.
  5. I guess the disconnect is that your title says, "world's biggest snake" and that there's no other comment from you. I'm sure on youtube there are some more current snake videos. There may even be some real ones!
  6. Yeah, pretty sure that Snopes outed this as a photoshop a few years ago.
  7. I'll reiterate my contention that the individual is, to some degree, responsible for weaing high heel shoes on a cracked sidewalk. I'll contend further that she knew, or should have known the condition of the sidewalk, because --- she was walking on it! Could a reasonable person not come to the conclusion that this was a bad idea? Wouldn't a reasonable person avoid the crack in the sidewalk? I don't see how this is different from the lady who was in the mall talking on her cell phone and walked right into the fountain. If she was seriously injured, that situation doesn't absolv
  8. Yes, pretty much. I'm all for people having the ability to take their case to court if they have been truly wronged. I just have the opinion that it's not the city's fault that the woman stepped in a crack in the sidewalk. It's unreasonable to think that the city can spend it's resources filling sidewalk cracks to keep women in high heel shoes from stepping in them and turning their ankles. Personal Responsibility. If people took responsibility for THEIR PART in mishaps, there wouldn't be all of this litigation. Likewise, if juries held individuals responsible for being spatially awar
  9. I think that there's a game show mentality. Why do people care how much someone wins on a game show? The person watching doesn't get any of the money! I think that there's a vicarious thrill of winning the big one and if a person can't do it himself, then the next best thing is to get to see someone else get the big score. Nevermind the reality that the "injured party" was suing THE JURORS and the rest of the city's taxpayers. You could understand this -- what?
  10. Oh, yeah - I didn't have my glasses on - EARNINGS!. I don't know if that makes it more unreasonable or less - $2499 in surgeries/treatments shouldn't have precluded her from doing her job. Oh, but she was going through a MILLION DOLLARS worth of pain! At this time I'd like to also advance the notion of personal responsibility. High heels on a broken sidewalk? And not watching to see what you're stepping into? "Your honor, at this time I'd like to introduce into evidence the doggie-doo that my client stepped in. " "The city knew or should have known that there were doggies in t
  11. From the AJC: ".... Miriam Nichole Hancock, 35, the manager of a social services agency, got her heel caught in loose concrete while crossing the intersection at Pryor Street and Upper Alabama Street near Underground Atlanta, her lawyer, Don Edwards, said. She fell and severely injured her ankle and required a number of surgeries after the accident, he said." "The jury awarded Hancock $2,499 in damages for medical expenses, $125,166 for lost earnings and $1.01 million for pain and suffering, her co-counsel, Mary Carole Cooney, said." $2499 in medical expenses for "a number of
  12. I agree. Controlling, though, like a parent controls a child. In the context of a parent/child relationship, then this is proper, even the ideal. If we're talking about an equal partner relationship, then the comments about being a slave is indicative of systemic problems in the way that they two relate to each other. The controller isn't being respectful of the other. The best thing to do is to allow the other person to take the initiative sometimes - to defer to the other. It's respectful. Like -- "What do YOU think that we should do this weekend?"
  13. Of course, it's not that simple. People who have been on the job for 20 years (for example) and who have a dramatic effect on the bottom line of a company can renegotiate all aspects of their jobs. They can do this individually or collectively. The company can always tell them "no" and to get back to work. If they don't get back to work, the company can fire them. A company can't keep people from assembling and discussing working conditions and deciding to present management with offers. The company will do what is in their best interests. So the right to peacefully assemble IS a right
  14. It has happened before on air before! It's toward the end of the video clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnm079stw68&feature=related
  15. I think that the whole story is not being told here. I agree with you about not flying pets in cargo. Likely, the owner had to sign a claim waiver. If the owner threatened to sue Delta over the matter, why would Delta pay them restitution (whatever that means), an action which would weaken their case in civil court? I'll repeat what I've said before -- the responsibility for caring for a pet is on the owner. If an owner is that close to a pet, will the owner REALLY put the pet in the baggage/cargo area? A side note: I have previously heard of people putting their Snickers in the freez
  16. I'm pretty sure that it was a joke. Putting a dead cat in carry-on? Here's what I didn't understand from the article: Heather Lombardi said Delta Air Lines initially told her she would get $2,900 for the cat and $290 for airfare, plus reimbursement for vet bills and even a freezer where she's keeping Snickers until the ground thaws. Vet bills? The cat was frozen stiff in 10 degree weather and she took the cat to a vet???? And the vet charged her to tell her that the cat was dead? Oh -- something else -- Do they not have cremation options in CT? She has to keep her cat in
  17. This is Deadicated to the very late Elwood In his coffin, he sure did smell good! He smelled so good, I paid respects twice! It could have been RAID or maybe Old Spice.....
  18. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ There's a nap for that!
  19. The episode must have been extremely frightening. It wasn't drugs.
  20. I think that they news agencies should do more to keep them safe. Really, what's the need to get in the middle of a crowd of protesters? Filiming can be done of the protesters and the commentary can be edited-in. There's really NO EXCUSE for putting the reporters in harm's way like this!
  21. It's worse than wussy pillows - There would possibly be some additional employment gains to be made. The state is also losing out on some major tax revenue. This is a user tax that would BENEFIT non-users. That's religion for ya, though... Just makes no sense.
  22. I don't know why it is that reporters have to be IN the middle of a crowd to report on it. You didn't see any reporters taking to the streets in the middle of the L.A. riots They don't have to be put in harm's way to get the story about what is happening!
  23. See if he's scheduled to "Review The Troops" anytime soon. If he is, I predict that his resignation will be announced then.
  24. That's a heck of a good deal. It's so much better to have one that has been reconditioned by a professional!!
  25. I grew up in DeKalb County and I don't remember hearing about Paulding County until my first year our of college. I coached middle school football in Lithia Springs and we played Paulding County Middle School (or was it, "Junior High" back then?). I was at Turner Middle School. My only recollection is that we beat the Paulding team and I remember the name of the Paulding Co running back. That was 1978.
