Salt will melt ice until the road surface reaches 15 degrees. They need to get it down today and tomorrow. If they could have done it yesterday, the roads would be much better today. My guess is they don't have enough salt/gravel and can't get any more right now. They don't stock pile it like they do in areas that get more snow and ice.

I so ::heart you::,

Our office is on 278. We have remote access to the security cameras, I watched for at least 5 minutes and did not see one car going down 278 in either direction. The bridge at Pumpkin Vine Creek is always one of the first to freeze. I'm glad people are acting responsibly during this time. I just hope they don't get cabin fever and try to venture out. Looks like we're in this for a while.

I didn't move here til the fall of 1983, so I missed that one. My sister lived in Powder Springs and worked downtown, it took her 8 hours to get home. I think I'm glad I missed it.

I have no idea, we live in Yorkville and it is misting rain, freezing on the trees right now. I know these roads out here are treacherous. Dang, I wish I had ordered those chains for my tires.

I agree 100% but Holly Springs was plowed this morning after the snow stopped. It is now a solid sheet of ice, looks nice but very, very dangerous. I know it's not our guys out there doing the work, they take instruction from a "higher ups". I appreciate all they do!!

We're back, she's fine and the doggies have food and water. She's by herself, her husband passed a couple of years ago. We try to watch out for her. It's just feels like the right thing to do.

We have a saying in the South about snow - Mother Nature put it there, she can take it away!! Patience matters, that's why we buy enough bread, milk and TP to last til she decides to let it melt.

I noticed Holly Springs road was cleared and I thank them for that, but no salt or gravel............no snow but it's a solid sheet of ice. Now I have never worked for the DOT and don't claim to know more than they do but doesn't it make sense that when they plow the road, they salt right behind it. Most plows are on the front of dump trucks and salt on the back. One sweep and they get it all...........the way they are doing this they are having to do everything using twice the amount of fuel and manpower.

Make sure she has heat and take care of her doggies for her. If I'm not back in 3 days, send the sheriff out!! LOL

Thank him for me, please!! The more cars off the road, the easier their job. I just wish they had some type of pattern they could share with us so we know which roads to travel in the event of an emergency. I would think all the state routes and major thoroughfares would be handled first. And thank you for letting us know. Praying for your family and all our crews out working in this.

Oh no!!! We got six inches, both gazebos still standing, for now. Gotta clean some of the snow off the deck, with the generator on it along with all the snow, I'm a little worried about the weight.

I have a lot of experience driving in snow. I would not get out in this unless I had chains on my tires. Nothing is that important unless someone's life is at stake. It's the ice that gets you every time. Those 30 ft embankments are not your friend.

I think I'm gonna take my mule out through the woods in a little while. Here it is.

Thanks for showing up to work DS, praying you can make it back home. At least we know our water is safe in your hands.

Glad to see you still have power LR. I was worried about you. It was sleeting here a little bit ago but it stopped for now.

Me too Animal. Went to watch TV in my room about 8:00, fell asleep and woke up at 12:30. Been awake since. We have a nice white ground cover, too.
