You're right Thoughts, we can't trust those numbers any more than we can trust ours. The "real" unemployment rate far exceeds 9.2% in the US. This is from Februray 2011 - may be 22.1%.................I heard today one in 4 US residents are unemployed.

Still waiting for the actual hourly wage. Even at $5.00 per day it's still more than .25 per hour. A 12 hour work day would still be .41 cents an hour. How about we factor in a cost of living as well??

Be careful with oil in the sun, you can actually cook the plant with oil left on the leaves. Yes, mulching the base is the key. We started using pine straw at the base several years ago, we have about 2-3 inches. It works great. Tomatoes do look a little stressed at the end of the day but not near as bad as if there was no mulch. They bounce back when the sun gets off them. We have been watering deeply twice a week, so far, so good.

You're so sweet to share. Ours have done well this year, too. We're growing for three families and putting up for winter. However, we have lots and lots of cukes and patty pan squash. If you run out and more folks want some, send them our way.

They make a product called pickle crisp, tumeric also works and keeps the pickles a nice color.
