The quote you provided was what finally set off the light bulbs. It makes perfect sense now why they did it that way. You can't give someone a deduction from nothing.

Why not just a tax cut then?? Why manipulate a different fund and then reimburse that fund?? Slight of hand?? Just curious why they wouldn't just go for a withholding tax deduction. <snap>Oh wait, I think I just figured it out. Those that get huge refunds every year may not have withholding taken out of their checks..........SS is a mandatory deduction from everyone, now it makes sense. Duh!! BTW, the employer still pays the 6.2%.

So why didn't they just do a payroll tax deduction for Federal Withholding instead of a cut to the SS tax??

This is not funding for future SS, it's for now, today. I just don't see how or why you would underfund a program that's already in trouble unless you want it to go away entirely.

OK so Social Security withholding was cut by 2%. Instead of paying 6.2%, everyone is now paying 4.2%. Everyone that gets a paycheck sees this cut weekly. Is this not a cut to Social Security?? Why would you cut the funding to a program that is already in trouble?? I really do not understand the thought process behind this.

Yea, well I know who you're talking about. One of their techs nearly killed us with an $800.00 repair............a new unit would have cost $1200.00. Pinnacle is the way to go!!!

If I had all the money people owed me I could retire somewhere in the Caribbean and live like a queen. It's a risk of doing business, bad things happen to good people. We have managed to keep our head above water for a while but alas, if things don't change soon we're going down with the ship. However; I will never think bad of someone because they didn't get burned and I certainly don't expect them to bail me out.

I have paid tax on $250,000.00 of income. I assure you I am not rich. People that own small businesses have good years and bad years..............you have to save for the bad ones. One or two years of down times can wipe out all previous profits. We're going on year three now. I'm thinking a millionaire might be considered rich.
