For those who are more concerned about the money they may lose by purchasing senior stuff than the fact that their child doesn't know what he/she should, it's not like they don't have at least TWO chances to pass the test prior to having to really fork out a nickel. The students are FIRST tested their junior year. Those scores are already back. I believe they can take it again over the summer; however, there is definitely a FALL retesting where the scores come back before any deadlines for caps/gowns/announcement/dues deadlines.

The graduation tests are being phased out because we are moving towards a national curriculum. There's no telling what will eventually be the minimum testing standard; however, EOCT's will be used until something comes down from the government.

You are absolutely correct; however, most people simply aren't that thoughtful today, which is why there is so much hype surrounding these types of holidays. (I agree with your assessment of Valentine's Day as well. )

Being in honors classes and being an honors graduate are two different things. Anyone can now take honors classes. An honors graduate has to maintain a specific GPA.

You know, it just sort of saddens me that as a country we seem to be afraid of holding people accountable. The graduation tests were designed to assess whether a student had met minimum standards of things that they had been taught since entering school--not just things they were taught one year. The English is basic reading comprehension; the math goes up through basic geometry and the formulas are even given plus they are allowed to use a calculator, the science is physical science, biology, and maybe a little chemistry; the social studies is geography and history that should be common kno
