  1. While I hate to say it, I agree with the above statements. If we put our foot down in K-3, we might not still be fighting this battle in 9-12. It truly frustrates me that these kids can be failing until 2 weeks before grades come out and miraculously they are able to scramble, cram, make-up work and make a B. When I was in school, you had to push all the way through or you didn't make the cut. Now, in my career, I have to push every day or I don't make the cut. Either require the work throughout and on time and adhere to the guidelines set forth or stick to the "no child left behind" that is l
  2. I have a 4th grader too and I am really questioning the school system these days. I wish I could home school her. I love the teachers, but really wish I saw them more passionate about education like the ones I had when I was in school. The classrooms seem to have so much more disruption from behavioral disobedience in students to administrative blue tape. I used to want to be a teacher, and I am glad now that I am not.
  3. August 7th or 8th they are suppose to talk about the graduation test and possibly changing it. The graduation test is a state issue. The local issue is whether or not PC allows students to walk if a single graduation test is the only thing holding them back from actually walking. They are already going to amend that standard (not eliminate it) as the test gets phased out. It is getting phased out for a reason. I believe it is going away because it is a problem and getting phased out to see fair to the students who went before. Just dropping the test from one year to the next makes parent
  4. Thanks, but it was not because I wanted to. I just hate to waste energy knowing that there was no place for opinions. It was more of an opportunity for tbe board to show that they are another form of political figures. Teresa Lyons had heart and the rest of them were a cross between being trying to be PC and completely confused. One guy whose name I will spare proposed to propose a change...I sit in meetings to plan for meetings more often than I care to admit and it is a waste of time. I just kept shaking my head at the fact that the board chairman and members bounced around so much that whil
  5. I thought the same thing. I thought about talking to my church.
  6. Teachers and counselors have expressed concerns about the curriculum not matching up with the test on the Social Study. No, I kept my anger quiet.
  7. Btw. Am I the only parent who feels like starting out your kids senior year voting for this policy change seems like we are betting on our kids to fail? Colossal waste of time. It was as if the voices were not heard.
  8. My daughter is passing all classes. She has failed the social studies Georgia HS Graduation exam 4 times with scores ranging from 173 to 190. After the 3rd failed test, tutoring was offered 2x a week at one time and every other Friday after school. She attended every available tutoring session and still failed by 10 points. We wanted the school board to allow the students to walk based on the credit and grade requirements and instead, they proposed to put together a proposal at the August 9th board meeting. And yes, I said proposed to propose. Nothing was accomplished after 3 hours of sitting
  9. Wow, the Waffle House is news to me.
  10. They think they have the guys. Three men total. Thank God for the witness who spotted the car and took notice of the suspicious behavior. Late night robberies make me think towns that shut down with the sun are onto something.
