  1. Wow, I'm sorry for your neighbors. I saw the helos circlling late that morning as I was heading into Paulding and later heard why. Sad. I thought the boy would have been able to provide clues and put names to faces so I'm surprised it wasn't a qucikly solved case. Maybe tonights news story will get something going on it.

  2. I'm not sure where I had heard this, but I thought that Georgia Power had several man made lakes here in GA that they pull and dump into, those are the lakes that several people have been talking about being 'full' yet where as Lanier and Allatoona are running dry. So, did I really hear that from someone or was it in one of my wishful thinking dreams, I'm not sure, but I do know that one of the things Alabama was screaming about was needing water for their power plants, so with that in mind, I say YEAH, no, I say H YEAH: Georgia, Alabama and Florida all three should put restrictions on electic usage as well as water usage during this drought AND through the recovery period that's gonna last a lot longer then the drought will. But will they, H no, we here in GA will be the only ones that get hit, just like we are the only ones that got hit with water restrictions.

  3. Funny, they've been there for, um, how long now, a long long time, a few years now I believe, but because of the drought people are just now noticing them, this isnt' the first thread on which I've seen someone ask what they are. I remember the first time when I saw them a long time ago - I thought it was a sod field.

  4. HI MM44, I'm sorry for your low attendance as I know you and others worked hard to pull this off; I got to thinking and wanted to offer up these thoughts for you to mull over.

I don't think a $5 day price or a $10 day/night combo advance price was high at all, but the jump to a $25 day/night combo gate price seemed like a big jump (I think those were the prices I read on the flyers, but I could be wrong on that) ; for your next event maybe you can close that gap some to get your last minute crowd in.

Also, timing is everything and this came on the heals of a busy October Fair and Festival season here in many local counties and the mountains, and many have their annual favorites so may have been tapped out by now. Going forward, perhaps having it in mid October might be better timing; you'll be in competition with all the other fall events going on but at least you'll be square in the middle of the money pit rather than at the end of it.

On that same thought, gas prices are rising again, and now it's the beginning of November so the Holiday season is looming dead straight ahead; many out there about now are forced to cut things out just to stay afloat the next few months and a jamboree event becomes a luxury that some just can't afford right now. However, on a thread in the cafe forum there is a post about John Berry being at that Grand in Cartersville last night, so you had some competition locally last night and you might want to check out how that event did compared to yours (the promoters probably already know).

Finally, as you promote your next event (and you will) , offer up some solutions to parking. For this event, anyone that's ever drove anywhere near the square knows that parking is a problem and even if one thinks it sounded like fun, one probably just didn't want the parking hassle. If you build it, they will come, but first, you have to let them know they have a way to get to it.

Good luck on your next event, looking forward to hearing about it.

  5. Hmmm. Let's see. If they're cooking and flushing at school, there will be no need to flush toilets at home? I didn't know that's how it works. Tell you kids to "hold it" until they get to school. No school today? Hold it until tomorrow when it's open.

    ...

Uh, wow, you missed what I was saying by a long shot: "experience" , "shortage", "closing schools", "no notice" - come on, you all could not have forgotten the gas thing that easily?!? Oh well, so much for poking fun with the gov, but I wasn't poking fun at the drought. It IS for real, but think about it, this didn't just happen overnight, or this year because of our lack of rain folks, we've been in drought situations for YEARS now so why is it just now hitting the news, why is the word 'conservation' just now becoming the new buzz word, why are we just now at a level 4 restriction, and why are the powers to be just now standing up and taking notice? Why did they not listen to the flunkies over the last several years that told them this was coming, why was there not more planning, and why was there no pressure put on previously BEFORE we got to this situation now? That is what irks me the most, the head in the sand mentatilty; ignoring things does not make the issue go away, it just caues the melting pot to boil over is all.

  6. You know, this makes you wonder-if it isn't the governor's job to ensure that the state has an ample source of water, whose job is it? This should have been at the top of his priority list way before now.

What are we getting in return for the salary we pay these politicians?

    This is beyond ridiculous.

Priority List? Oh yeah, he knows how to deal with shortages, after all he has 'experience', so parents of school children start making your DAYCARE plans now because I'm seeing the future: the next thing he'll declare is that the schools have to close for a few days so as to conserve the water that they use flushing and cooking during the day, and he'll announce that on a Friday afternnon for the close to take effect on that very following Monday.

  7. "Navy" showers: get in, turn the water on, get wet, turn it off, soap up, wash, turn water back on and rinse - measured it this way and not and found that the "Navy" way used less than HALF the water then with it running full the entire time -and - it's fricken COLD these fall mornings standing wet with no water on so you sure move faster and it sure wakes you up quicker. LOL.

  8. Parking may be free as you say, but where do you expect to park all those vehicles - it'll probably be between a low of 750 to as many as 1500 vehicles (depending on how many occupants in each verhicle) - are you going to be running shuttles from some far away lot and if so, will that lot(s) be patrolled by qualified LEP at all time to avoid break ins and thefts? And yeah, 3000 people in the square seems like a lot - and even with LEP I'm not seeing how you plan on clearing the square between 3Pm and 4:30 - but if you are successful at that - where do you expect people to go for that hour and a half and what sort of entertainment do you have to amuse them for that time? And this LEP that you mention patrolling, this is OT/side job money being paid by your venue, and not on-the- clock taxpayer money, right?

I wish you well but I see lots of problems looming with this and I'll be staying far far away from that entire area, and I pity the ones that have to ride the rodes anywhere around there so that they can get home. Good luck, I think you are going to need it.

  9. Everyone has their own take, it sort of depends on if your glass is half full or half empty. I actually ate their yesterday for the first time after I saw their ad and writeup in the Hometown Advantage paper, and I thought it was GREAT, burgers were huge and very tasty, fresh cut fries were just perfect, and lots of them! A happy and pleasant employee was working the seating area, offering to refill drinks and take away dirty baskets once done; the manager also worked the seating area not once, but TWICE while I was there (and I really wasn't there for any long period of time), asking customers if everything was ok, AND, passing out extra fries to anyone that wanted more, and I watched and listened and almost all turned them down, thanking him but commenting that they had plenty provided to them first time around. As for price, maybe their prices went down over the last months because I actually thought that their combo prices were very reasonable for the size and quality of what you get - compared to eating lunch out in Marietta during the week this was a lot cheaper and a lot better and it sure didn't cost me $9 for a burger and fries, but I have paid that elsewhere for a lot less food and for food elsewhere that sure wasn't this tasty. So I don't know, maybe they've improved or gained experience, I don't know because I didn't go there b4, but as for now, they were great and I"ll go back. Again, everyone has their own take I guess.

  10. Wow, thanks for the review, good to know! I've stayed at CI&S in other locations and it's usually a nice place and yes, it's not one of the chains on the lower cost end either as it falls in the middle. I wonder if Carlson Hotels WW (they own the CI&S label) knows how bad this place really is, the more complaints they get the more they may take some sort of action because if the owner is breaching the franchise contract like this it's really, really not good for the brand name, there are way to many hotel names out there to bother going to one that is questionable (that is, if this one is allowed to operate this way, what does that say for the other locations).

  11. HI, I do like those and many others too, and not to burst your bubble but each of those three have authors and they are copyrighted, but perhaps you got permission to reprint and duplicate them here?

You may refer to this site for many more police poems, the authors, and the copyright information, if you'd like:

    Be safe! ;)

  12. HI, realize that they are trained and trained well; they know what they are doing out there and they do it well. Yes, accidents do - and will - happen, but their training will kick in to prevent most tragedies, however, if it's their time to go, then it's their time and nothings going to change that. For now, let the past stay in the past, it can't be changed, and worrying about the "what if's" makes you miss the "right now" so relax, enjoy life in the present and let the future take care of itself. Don't lose your sense of humor - and if you never had one, get one, you're going to need it. SO wife, 20 years, PD mother, 7 years (and it is much harder being the mom of one than the wife - take my word for that!). ~ hugs to you all ~

  13. It's a new era folks, everything costs way more to operate then it ever used to and lawsuits are filed for the most trivial things these days, so, I suspect that there are huge liability issues, not to mention the high maintenance costs and upkeep, for a county running a pool, or multiple pools if that be the case. Now, if a county's tax base supports the liability risks and the insurance that is needed, as well as the maintenance and upkeep, then that's another thing. So now ask yourself this - would you support tax hikes for a "county pool" or "multiple county pools"? I'm sure you'd rather retain the bragging rights to having taxes that are 'so much less' than 'those other counties' - well with those lower taxes you also get to - not have - what they "do have". Solution: you want county pools, move to counties that have them, and pay their taxes. Seems pretty simple. TMO -YMMV

  14. I have not seen this error, but I doubt its related to flash( may be but I don't think so) I'm seeing a lot of sluggishness that appears to be related to an over worked DB. PHP along with mySQL is bad about throwing out of memory errors. I'm not sure what the specifics behind this setup are, but I would start looking at log files. I'm guessing there could be some tweaks made to the database code here and help some things out. Of course this entire site may just need some additional resources thrown at it.

Thanks, it may not be related to Flash as I had posted but I had just found that data when I was trying to look into the error because at first I had thought it was something on my end. I'm not by any means an IT person but you on the other hand sound like you have mucho knowledge in that area, so carry on and thank you. :)

  15. For me, the home page of this board loads fine, but when I first try to open a topic the board hangs and then I get the 'out of memory - line 56' error message and then finally the topic blips up. With so many of us getting this error then it's not us, it's something with THIS boards setup as I go to a lot of different boards/sites and this is the only one that I'm having issues with. I tired researching it and the best I can come up with is that it's something to do with a flash player 9 bug, explained here, and I believe it's the board settings that need adjusting, not us:

    Pubby, ideas???

  16. You're using that term real loose aren't you?

Yeah, I edited my post because the fact is debatable..that is..I'm saying it only on the basis that 'she's been on tv'...heck..half a number of paulding county people could claim that status too (based on being on TV) I suppose! :D

  17. Whats not fair is that they are letting sex molestors and murders out everyday, and keeping her in jail over something so small!!!! I agree she should pay her dues but come on let her stay at home or go from school to school and tell the kids what she did, and lock up someone who is a threat to our society!!!

DUI is not "something so small" - it KILLS...and it's especially hard on those left behind. :(

IMO: PH needs to stop acting like a spoiled rich brat and do the time. She's not ill, she's an actress (although that in itself is debatable too) , but she would certainly knows how to fake psychotic episodes. What a waste of spending her and her parents are doing on appeals and lawyers, if they would take that money they are shelling out and send it to be used at alcohol rehab facilities a heck of a lot of people could be helped (maybe even P herself).
