This used to be the case. When I was in high school, we had a vocational diploma path and we had a college path. We had wood shop and auto shop and a few other classes that would put you on the path to a vocational stamp on your diploma. If you were on the vocational path, you were allowed to leave school early to go work and get school credit for that work. If you were on a college degree path, you could leave early and go take college classes (only available to jr's and sr's.). You also had the opportunity to do both... be on the vocational and college paths.

It's simple. Society, in general, has moved to entitlement. I'm not saying white collar job people don't work hard for their money, but more and more people want an "easy" job and don't want to actually "work" for their pay.
