That is the stupidest response ever. He didn't know that the phrase was inappropriate until someone told him. How would he have learned it was bad without someone telling him? Regarding the phrase he used that contained the n-word: The phrase - meaning a concealed factor that may have a harmful effect on a situation - originated in the US in the 1850s and was in common use in Britain until recent decades. It is now regarded by most people as being racially offensive.

My understanding of how security clearances work for former employees is they have clearance to receive classified info but that doesn't mean they still have access to it. In other words, current employees could reach out to former employees with security clearances for information or opinions but former employees can't just go in one day and start reading all the current classified info. And I seriously doubt they were using Brennan in that way given his opposition to the Trump administration. Given that, how does that impact Brennan's ability to make a living? Once in college I got back to the dorm after class and decided to take a nap (it was finals week so I hadn't gotten much sleep). This was about 5PM or so. I woke up a little after 8 and immediately thought it was 8AM. I had a final exam at 8AM so I freaked out, got ready in about 5 minutes, and ran outside to go to class late. It wasn't until I got outside and it was dark that I realized it was PM, not AM. Duh.
