The sirens are only located in the City of Dallas and are controlled solely by the city. Some cities and counties sound them at totally inappropriate times and for reasons they're not intended to be used for. If you're a city resident maybe you should approach the city council at one of their meetings with the Outdoor Warning Siren Guide published by GEMA. It can be found at THIS LINK The policy looks like it would be very beneficial if the city followed it because the sirens would only be activated for imminent danger. My hope is if they purchased them for the benefit and safety of the ci

Although I like the new song from Rodney Atkins that's called "He's Mine", it troubles me thinking about some of the lyrics and how it relates to some parents that believe certain rules and laws shouldn't apply to their kids. Don't get me wrong parents should love their children unconditionally but when it comes to making excuses for them when they do wrong in an effort to reduce the consequences they face just seems like you're setting them up for a life time of expecting a bailout. We all have seen that play out here locally with the incident that occured at EPHS. I do agree that the p

It seemed to be a pretty crazy call. There was a guy in a white car that pulled into the driveway of the house while the homeowner was outside. The guy tried to take the homeowners truck from the driveway which apparently didn't have keys in it. Then as the female from the house was trying to get away and leave in her silver SUV the man chased after her running up Winndale Rd. The male homeowner was still in the driveway at the house and the guy started running back at him. The homeowner said he (the homeowner) was armed but hadn't used it since the guy hadn't threatened them with a wea

As an avid camper with my RV, I love traveling to new places and spending money supporting local businesses and trying to make a small dent in the local economy. I camp around Lake Allatoona at least once a month either at Red Top Mountain State Park, one of the Army Corp of Engineer Parks or John Tanner Park in Carrollton (owned by Carroll County Parks and Recreation). Every 4-6 months I take an trip a little farther off to either Chattanooga, Stone Mountain or Savannah. I normally stay at a professionally run campground that is well maintained and has rules that are tight enough to keep o

I had a great experience with them for a repair. I bought a new Whirpool Cabrio washer/dryer set about a year and a half ago from the Appliance Smart on Thornton Rd. I stupidly washed a rug in it that should have been scrubbed and rinsed outside with a water hose. The end result was the rug damage the plastic top of the wash drum. It was still functional but looked beat up. Appliance Smart covered it completely under warranty and shipped the new part to my house. When it arrived I scheduled a time for the technician to come install it. It was a great experience with them and they c

We have Comcast, live on Winndale and haven't had any issues with the internet. I have seen some pixelization or digitizing on some of the HD cable channels but that occurs about every 6 months because of their outside connectors not being as weather proof as they should. It's hit or miss this week on the HD issue but again, no problems with the internet.

I would recommend meeting people in a local bar, restaurant or other social setting versus a school parking lot, especially if you're looking to get lucky back at your place afterwards. Meeting at a school could be misconstrued as public indecency, especially if you inadvertently pick up a high school kid that tells you they're 18. I'm just kidding, I know in what sense you're referring to in your question. Most schools have gates that are locked over the weekend. If by chance you find one unlocked/open on the weekend I'd be careful about leaving a vehicle there unattended since it

Do you have a NOAA weather radio programmed to activate for watches and warnings issued for Paulding and surrounding counties? You're more likely to hear a weather radio versus outdoor warning sirens and the weather radios are more cost effective for you as well as the county versus trying to install outdoor sirens in attempt to notify EVERY citizen in the county. The reason I say EVERY is who decides where the sirens go and what areas of the county are more important than another? A life is a life and those types of tough decisions don't come easy. Weather sirens are designed to work i

MSNBC link WASHINGTON — A "specific, credible" threat has emerged surrounding the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, U.S. officials said Thursday. The article goes on to say: "Regardless, we take all threat reporting seriously, and we have taken, and will continue to take all steps necessary to mitigate any threats that arise. We continue to ask the American people to remain vigilant as we head into the weekend." An administration official told NBC News the threat "so far" was a 5 to 6 on a scale of 10. Intelligence from Pakistan indicated the th

I came upon the scene right after the accident, the car had 3 children in the back seat. The oldest was an 8 year old girl and her two brothers 5 and 6. The brothers were the most critical, the girl was conscious but injured. The 8 and 5 year olds were flown from the scene to Scottish Rite. The 6 year old was in serious condition on the scene and was taken to Paulding Hospital to be stabalized. He was then flown to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. I did find out bad news this afternoon that the 6 year old didn't make it. Not sure if he took a turn for the worse in flight or

Ahhhh, I just had this done a little over a week ago and I'm loving it!!!! I went to Joffe Medi Center on Hwy 41 across from Cumberland Mall at Akers Mill Rd. Dr. Chaknis was great and Joffe had excellent reviews. They have a "best price guarantee" so you'll pay no more than $1195 per eye. It was amazing how quick the procedure was and that there was no pain, just a slight discomfort while they were working on each eye. The best part was being able to come home and sleep all day after the procedure and have a reason not to get out of bed until the next day. It was great waking up

I agree, this is truly unbelievable on how long this has been dragging out for surepip. I really hope some sort of contempt or fine is levied on behalf of surepip since the county and their attorney do not seem to understand what "instanter" means. I'm guessing that racked up more than a weeks worth of county attorney fees while they found their Webster dictionary to look up the word then draft a response back to the court of some off the way delay request.

Will the Atlanta media ever stop talking about the Atlanta Public School cheating scandal??? I'm so tired of hearing or reading about it. The report was released a week and a half ago and they keep kicking this dead horse over and over. Yes it is an important matter but the news stories in Atlanta for the past two weeks must be few and far between because reporters are chasing down anyone willing to talk about it over and over. Channel 2 even went to the extent of going to Hawaii to track down Beverly Hall!!! I guess Monica Pearson loved that trip just to hear the same response Ms

This story aired a couple of months ago on Channel 2 news and I saw one of these vehicles at Touch a Truck and again Wednesday when I passed by the exercise over at Paulding County High School. It looked like it could do everything under the sun. I remember talking to the guy in the video from GEMA at Touch a Truck and he told me he used to work worked for the county a few years ago and also owned a limousine company in Dallas and lives around here. It's nice to see the state has great tools like this in case they're needed. http://www.wsbtv.com...1637/index.html

Why Is This Heading "A Day Without Immigrants"?
dlls1415 replied to NewsJunky's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Thanks for your reply and for knowing the facts of a law before posting incorrect information. Apparently Newsjunky just thinks they "know" what the law says or authorizes but just in case since Newsjunky thinks the law does not allow for law enforcement to verify status of those they come across, here is the excerpt from the law as written. And before you jump to the "criminal violation" reference, notice it says that means any state or federal criminal law so it could be any simple traffic violation that are so common that officers sometimes give a blind eye to it as a simple mistake. I don't see how I'm twisting a law of illegal versus legal. The law was set out to do that itself by allowing a law enforcement officer to verify a person status based simply on the officers interpretation of their race. That part of the law is what you now see on hold because it could be detrimental to those who are here legally, working or running a business and contributing to society. That verification would be based solely on how they appear. Again, I'm really on both sides with this issue, immigration laws have been very relaxed over the years which has put us in the position we -
Why Is This Heading "A Day Without Immigrants"?
dlls1415 replied to NewsJunky's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I truly understand both sides of the supporters and opponents of the law and I've been very neutral during this whole process. What I don't understand is rather than create harsh punishment state by state, why haven't our immigration laws and requirements been revised in attempt to make it easier to become a US citizen. Based on a recent Newsweek poll, using the official US citizenship questions, they asked 1000 US citizens the test questions and 38 percent failed. How can we hold those standards to someone who is asking to become a citizen in the greatest nation in the world when m
