  1. Please tell me where it's 2/3rds empty? My guess is you're information is third party and you haven't taken the time to verify that. Even with some empty space, why not build larger than required for the needs at the time which makes sense to plan for additional growth in the coming years. The complex has been there 5 years, can you imagine the backlash if they built it with plans to occupy every inch for the needs 5 years ago and now need to expand for additional growth? It's much cheaper to build extra/unused space during initial construction versus modifications/expansions years down th
  2. You "fought" or just whined and complained? Have you supported any progressive project for the operations of the county? If so please name some along with your reasoning. Not that I agree 100% with all of the projects but to point out a few considerations for a few of them: $65 million dollar courthouse: Anyone who had conducted any business in the hodgepodge of county buildings in downtown Dallas from 2001-2008 knew that not only was space at a premium, the condition and ADA access to every building was compromised and was in dire need of attention. Even with rehabbing, you can't
  3. None of them look white to me. It also looks like the thugs I see loitering around downtown everyday while I go to and from WORK while they're out on the streets being bored.
  4. Having a direct complainant for any code violation aids in the validation that the problem truly is a problem because it led to the complaint from a citizen. Especially when it goes to court because the officer can site the county code that's being violated, show that a citizen complaint was submitted and it correlates to a quality of life issue for the neighbors based on the citizen complaint and the judge can have a more clear picture of the situation and hopefully rule accordingly based on the facts. If the officer initiated on it alone, the violator can cry poverty, beg for mercy or say
  5. Great to hear of their awesome service. Mike Brown purchased the True Value hardware store a few years ago and expanded into tool, equipment and truck rentals. I rented excavators from him at his previous location on West Memorial by the Hickory Hut and was thoroughly impressed with their great the service and awesome rates on equipment. It's unfortunate that it looks like that part of the business has gone away since I don't see the equipment at the hardware store anymore but hopefully they'll continue to do well with hardware and Budget truck rentals.
  6. You're a little behind, this has all been covered in a previous post. How do I know? Well at the time of the original post it was an assumption they were taking advantage of it by eating there everyday and multiple times a day. As stated in my previous post, this morning I confirmed with the cashier at Chick Fil A how many officers pay for their meal and the answer was one of every one hundred so it can no longer be considered an assumption because I've confirmed it. While at dinner tonight with some friends I brought up the topic and found out a similar issue came up during the airshow
  7. That's all it takes is someone with the connections to bring it to those that likely don't even know it could present an opportunity for abuse by some who were raised without good manners. I've never once intended to imply the discount shouldn't be given to public safety, just awareness that if "I'm" seeing officers constantly at the places that give free meals but rarely at places that don't then there could be room for a simple policy to make sure the gesture doesn't ruin it for everyone.
  8. You're right, attitude and honesty goes a long way with discretionary charges or citations. Hide it from the officer and when they find it the consequences usually go up a step or two to the maximum result allowed by law.
  9. It's called "How a few bad apples ruin everything" meaning if some officers go day after day and visit multiples times a day then at some point the discounts or free meals will likely stop for all who deserve it and aren't taking advantage of it. So to answer your question, there should be a policy within the agencies to address it. In fact, for god sake everyone sure jumps on the band wagon when politicians accept gifts regardless of the dollar value so why is this any different? Morals, integrity and ethics should come first nature to those who serve the public and get paid by public fund
  10. Well you pop in to make out like this wasn't a legitimate post so yeah I would take offense to it. It is clearly an honest mistake that you say you missed the post so my apologies for calling you an ass . It pissed me off quite a bit to be called out when I had just taken the time to respond to everyone who wants to stray and talk about everything except the reason of what I posted about.
  11. No it wasn't a hit and run and I posted a detailed response 5 minutes before yours so had you taken the time to read it you wouldn't have made an ass of yourself. Sorry I could reply today but I do have a job and was in the field from 6am until getting back home at 5. Unfortunately Paulding.com isn't my focus when I'm being paid to do my job during the day.
  12. Just tell the officer you purchased the 10 lb brick at Sams Club Pharmacy in Washington or Colorado and it's for putting the "Coma" in your Glaucoma.
  13. former member, you are correct but as usual everyone wants to miss the point entirely and say "mind your own business" or "it's a private business so they're entitled to do whatever they please". I never disputed the offer from Chick Fil A or any establishment that chooses to do it. I think it's very generous and Chick Fil A is just one of many businesses that offer this service. My point is seeing the same officers there day after day after day. You can't tell me the court officers and detectives in an unmarked car that are at Chick Fil A every single day are coming there paying at
  14. The sad part is how many reasons are always given as to sudden spikes in the rise in fuel. The whole "supply and demand" concept of fuel just doesn't add up with 99% of fuel spikes. Unfortunately the suppliers can tell us anything they want and we have no choice except to deal with it and pay the prices because we're all so in love with our cars and because we don't have multiple transportation options available in our area.
  15. I've worked for the government for my entire life and my job comes with the same perks as the issue I've pointed out. However because of my morals and government ethics laws I choose to pay my own way and not take advantage of the free meals. So to counter your statement, I'm positive I DON'T take advantage of it and I turn it down quite often when the offer is made to me whether it's completely free or a discount. When those charged with upholding the law are given things for free, regardless of the overall value, the time will come where they're faced with applying the law to those who've
  16. I truly believe law enforcement officers and all aspects of public safety professionals deserve the respect of the public and I've always been on their side with an overwhelming amount of support. Understanding that, keep in mind that this post doesn't come from being treated badly by an officer nor have I received a ticket from one, it's simply just a common observation I continually see and think it's getting a little worse each day. I frequently visit the Chick Fil A at 278 and 61 in Dallas. When I'm there for breakfast 99% of the time I use the drive thru and for lunch or dinner
  17. But the car IS blocking the fire exit from the garden center, which is why the poster included two pictures. The poster does not appear to be referencing the fire doors on the actual building being blocked, only the fire exit from the garden center. One shows the car parked right up against the edge of the black fence surrounding the garden center, the other shows the same location when the vehicle is not there. Notice the fire exit sign on the door from the garden center area? With the car that close it would be considered to be blocked and not fully accessible as required by law.
  18. I put a lot of miles on my vehicle for work travelling all over the state. Like many of you on here I have tried to educate myself regarding the rules of the road for things well beyond that found on the state drivers license test I took years ago. To me it's not only the law to understand how to handle various situations in the course of my travels but it's also common courtesy and a safety factor to make sure my actions don't endanger others. This morning the light at 278 and Garrett Rd the traffic light was flashing: Yellow for travel lanes of 278, Red for turn lanes from 278 and R
  19. You're welcome. It's definitely worth a shot for everyone to try. I mean it has worked for me at all of my primary and rental properties for 10 years and I have no complaints. Out of the 7 houses I use it at, they all have drastically different design concepts and attract a variety of creatures but this stuff works on everything. If for some reason you're not happy with it you're only out $7 plus the cost of a sprayer if you have to buy it which would run around $10. What I like about it is that I'm able to do it when I need it ie: I see live bugs in the basement so I know it's ti
  20. What type of pests are you looking to get rid of? If it's general pest control for ants, spiders, fleas, etc. I'd like to recommend something that I've used for about 10 years and have never had to pay for pest control services at my house. The product is call Zep and it's sold at Home Depot for around $7 for a small brown bottle of insecticide concentrate. You mix the concentrate with regular water in a 2 gallon sprayer and spray around the entire perimeter outside of your home. I usually spray a little more around areas where bugs would potentially get in (around pipes or other
  21. UGA, You come across as one of our most informative members when it comes to legal matters and interpretation. Do you think the letter violates any laws as it relates to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act? I fully know that it's not actually a debt collection letter but the wording on the outside of the letter would normally be a violation of the FDCPA. From what I've read, the act is intended to protect the consumers private financial matters by not allowing clear indication of what the letter is about until opened. In the case of these letters, let's say someone who's on
  22. I saw this on the news this evening one thought crossed my mind. It's unusual for a high profile death not to have some hint of a possible cause (ie: recent health problems, heart attack, stroke etc.) Usually a death caused by suicide is worded "died suddenly" or "died unexpectely" so I guess we'll see if there are more details released in the coming days. I hate to assume that based on their current dilemma that suicide was involved but it definitely throws up some potential red flags of the vague details of his death.
  23. I haven't checked my mail yet but if I did receive the infamous letter and it contains the information you've shown above I will notify the Federal Trade Commission because this type of wording on the outside of any mail or telegram is illegal, and it doesn't matter if it is an actually collection attempt or a political mailer. Here's the excerpt from the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act: (notice item 8 ) § 808. Unfair practices [15 USC 1692f] A debt collector may not use unfair or unconscionable means to collect or attempt to collect any debt. Without limiting the gener
  24. So after seeing the repetitive commercial for the TSPLOST (Untie Atlanta commercial) I wondered if anyone else has noticed that the exit numbers for the interstates depicted on the commercial are not even accurate exit numbers. It shows Peachtree Rd as 404B and 14th street as exit 403 when neither are accurate and there's not even an exit for Peachtree "Rd" off of I75 or I85. Here's the video: http://youtu.be/qQflt2gRATY I know it may seem stupid to see wrong exit numbers as a problem but if the Citizens for Transportation Mobility committee did such a piss poor job of producing
  25. I totally agree. My weather radio alerted just after midnight. I purposely put it several feet away from the bed because it forces me to get out of bed, come to my senses and listen to the information that they're broadcasting. Weather radios are so inexpensive yet residents continually expect direct one on one notifications for significant events in their community. The problem with sirens is they're not intended for warning people that are indoors and they're not meant to sound off every time a possible weather threat is going to happen. People get immune to them really quick when they'
