  1. Apparently they're looking for new words now. The closure of the SW quad of 285 earlier was "catastrophic" instead of whatever other words they've been using. Drama much?
  2. school district web page says so "Due to icy conditions, no students to report to school Thursday, January 13." http://schools.paulding.k12.ga.us/ischooldistrict/district_news.php?districtNews_ID=293&school_ID=&district_ID=2
  3. I don't think it's a stretch at all to say our schools will be out tomorrow. If we still have areas that aren't getting mail I can't imagine they'd be sending buses out. A lot of neighborhoods are still in pretty rough shape. Really, at this point, it's easier to make up more days than less. Now they can start looking at what they did last year with adding a few minutes to each day after Spring Break if needed instead of having to take days away here and there. That's a much easier (and cheaper) way to make up the days/time for the kids.
  4. We had a pretty good chuckle here at our house when the field reporter was talking about the road behind him being completely impassable just as 1, 2, then 3 vehicles drove right by with no problem.
  5. Outgoing was picked up, nothing delivered. Very unusual for us to get nothing. The big trucks are probably having trouble getting around to the different sorting facilities, etc. I'm sure we'll be back to our usual metric ton of wasted paper in no time.
  6. Mine was so easy it was laughable. - How many branches are there in our government? - What are they? - How many Senators are there? - Who is the President? - Who is the Vice President? Don't they still make available a sample test that gives you ideas of the areas that he could/should look studying?
  7. My kids said Me, not so much.
  8. I do and I have not but I've heard what it's like out there and I know what my neighborhood looks like.
  9. If you aren't sure that you'll be able to clear it all, do yourself a favor and clear tracks. You can either clear tracks top to bottom and then work on swatches across at intervals or do the swatches first then start working on the tracks. Of course the reality is that if any of it is still good and wet it's going to be ice anyway but at least you'll have a chance of it getting dry before May.
  10. No chance Paulding schools will be open tomorrow.
  11. Anyone know if anything is open in that area? That Publix also closed at 4. (And before this thread takes an ugly turn, this is for a group of people that had no choice. They had to work today and I'm just trying to help them find something to eat while they're there.)
  12. I certainly never said anything about script REfills. I said getting a script filled. If I had to go to the ER for any reason and need to get a script filled today, it's nice to know that I could. If I had a baby and for whatever reason I needed something for that baby, it's nice to know that I could get stuff. If I had to guess I'd say that's why those stores are open. Their management knows that sometimes stuff happens and they want to be there for their customers.
  13. From my experience up north ... plowing is generally done while it is falling, salt/sand is generally done after the accumultaing stuff is over. No point putting traction stuff down when it's just going to get buried and salt can't fight against heavy accumulation rates. That's the way they did it around DC. Just throwing that out there. It seems to me our local folks here in Georgia do the best they can with what they have. There is simply no point spending money on equipment we don't need any more often than we do here. Patience is cheaper.
  14. We were already talking about that in our house. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
  15. They're still saying that we have off and on precip. for the day.
  16. I make a pretty mean sausage pierogi in addition to the other ones that I make. I'd love to get a "real" old world Polish recipe for some, though. I just came up with my own through a trial and error.
  17. As I said, accidents happen, things happen, life happens. People still end up in the ER and have prescription needs. Tins of formula get knocked over or ruined in other ways. You can't judge every situation by the same stick. And what about travelers that got stuck here through no fault of their own? It's a big picture situation. I don't need anything and I will not be going anywhere but that doesn't mean that I can't see the need for some businesses to try to be open for the public, if possible. And I wonder, does this area have a program set up to help doctors, nurses, etc. get to
  18. I was just coming back in to add that one. Time to go peel some taters.
  19. Not only will the house smell great but what's better on a cold day than warm bread? And it's great with chili or soup or whatever else you want to make.
  20. Accidents happen. Things happen. Stuff happens. It isn't always about poor planning.
