When my electric bill went sky high, I checked around the house and saw that the outdoor heat pump was iced over. Good thing it's only the basement unit --- te main unit is still functioning, so we didn't notice. Still having a home warranty, I called the warranty company and they sent over a guy the next day. He saw that I needed an expansion/TXV unit for my heat pump, whatever that is. They called Trane, whose heat pump it is, and found out that Trane had to call the actual manufacturer for Trane. Trane told them it would take 15 working days, since the manufacturer had to send i

Warn your teens --- friend's kid lost license
AustinPlantation replied to AustinPlantation's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I do agree that maybe his story wasn't 100%, but it was told to me by his Mom and he's a good kid and Eagle Scout. Only posted this as a warning of Georgia's Zero Tollerance laws ... not to imply that the kid wasn't possibly guilty. I have no way of knowing. Also, I couldn't think of a place on Rt. 120 where there isn't a median except maybe in Paulding near the college --- couldn't remember. -
A friend's son just got six points and lost his license fo six months because (1) he was a teen driver and (2) he passed a stopped school bus ... but it was a 4-lane highway, the bus was on the other side and the lights weren't on. It was on a part of Dallas Highway (120) where there was no median barrier. He was on the way to Chattahoochie Tech from Cobb. I thought it happened in Cobb, but now I wonder if it might have been after he crossed into Paulding. The fine was going to be $1,000 but their lawyer managed to get it reduced to $100. Now they have to take him back & forth

Yes, they had a dumpster. Still there. Just didn't use it until they were cleaning up. -
Retailer has new way for folks to give gifts
AustinPlantation replied to AustinPlantation's topic in RECENT TOPICS
The retailer says that the recipient activates the card and then sends invitations to friends and family reminding them to check it out online and contribute to their funds. Perfect for weddings, graduations and special occasions. I believe this is going too far, so I won't mention the retailer. -

One retailer is now offering a store Gift Card to engaged couples, expectant parents, etc. that can be added to online by those wishing to give and avoid the trouble of looking at gift registries or actually shopping for a gift. What next?

Friday's Supernanny featured a family from Marietta who owned a coffee shop on Roswell Road in Marietta, called the Coffee Park. The Johnson Family The Coffee Park had a supervised play area and a place for the parents and friends to sitand have coffee and tea. Of course, the Johnson's three children caused havoc with the store and the other children in the store when they showed up, probably encouranging parents to not reconsider another visit. It was a wonderful idea and I wanted to pass on the info to my one year old granddaughter and her parents. Unfortunately, the search results

Would You Go Up on A Roof Today?
AustinPlantation replied to AustinPlantation's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I'm sure they didn't, so I wasn't hard on them even though my lawn service came and had to spray over their stuff. Of course, I would never use that roofer, who came door-to-door months ago soliciting business. I hope the neighbor got a good job done. -
Retired in '03 --- been more of a strain on the wife having me around so much. Good luck

Would You Go Up on A Roof Today?
AustinPlantation replied to AustinPlantation's topic in RECENT TOPICS
Yes, but it was only because I pointed out the retention pond to them --- it was 50 feet away and not visible from where they were working. They really should have tried to control it while it was happening --- especially since I had asked them to take up the shingles before that --- i had to remove some of their stuff from the storm drain. -

Costco was doing this for some time. You think they would have put it into Sams Club instead of Walmart. Did you see the pet casket in the list? -
So a roofing company, not a PCOM member, showed up today to to the roof nextdoor to me. The wind was so strong, as soon as they started pulling the old shingles off and tossing it on the grass, it blew onto my lawn, into my cul de sac, onto a number of neighbors prpoerty and into the Paulding County's retention pond. Went over there when it was mostly shingles on the ground and asked them to clean it up, which they did. Now it's just a few shingles, a lot of carton packing and other what-nots. Told them that they would have to clean it up before they left today. We'll see.
