  1. If you haven't gotten a letter from Social Security about it, I wouldn't worry about it right now. Once they get all the bugs out of the system, they should be able to verify you. But is your name on your Social Security account the same name that you file taxes under? If you have filed an electronic tax return in the last couple of years, it should not have accepted the return if there was a discrepancy. EXACTLY!! It's not like this deadline took them by surprise. For some amusement, spell out the number for help that is given on the site, starting after the 1-800.
  2. That one I didn't know but I do know firsthand about the others--the unrelated people, the parking in the grass. I had to research all of that to make sure we were in compliance with all codes when we became landlords.
  3. This only comes as a surprise to those who don't know the Cobb County Code. Obviously, the "landlord" should have researched this further before doing this. I feel no sympathy for them. Parking in the grass is against the Code of Cobb County as well. Doing so will get you a visit from the Code Enforcement people and a nice little fine. Just ask my next door neighbor up there. They can tell you. Whoever said this was a boarding house might be right. Those have to be given special land use permits. Really sounds like the homeowner/landlord did not do their resear
  4. I took that into consideration. My insurance went down $101 a month when we moved.
  5. The System is down at the moment. We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Please try again later.
  6. Reports have stated that the problem isn't the volume of hits on the site but the site itself. Leave it to the government to do something halfway.
  7. No it doesn't. Generally co-pays don't apply toward deductibles and neither does co-insurance. A deductible is the amount you pay for health care services before your health insurance begins to pay. Coinsurance is your share of the costs of a health care service. It’s usually figured as a percentage of the total charge for the service. You pay coinsurance plus any deductibles you still owe. A copay is a fixed amount you pay for a health care service, usually when you receive the service. The amount can vary by the type of service. You may also have a copay when you get a prescr
  8. That's how insurance works now, so no reason to believe it would change. I've paid co-pays all along and a deductible all along. They are separate payments. Still have no clear concept of what maximum out of pocket expenses are.
  9. When you factor in deductibles and max out of pocket expenses, yeah, probably so.
  10. We used to have a nice, expensive digital camera that used floppy disks instead of a memory card. Took really great pictures but what computer now has a floppy drive? That camera took went to the dump.
  11. Interesting. http://www.forbes.com/sites/theapothecary/2013/10/03/enrollment-in-obamacares-federal-exchange-so-far-is-in-the-single-digits/?partner=yahootix “Very, very few people that we’re aware of have enrolled in the federal exchange,” said one anonymous insurance industry official to the Washington Post. “We are talking single digits.” Other exchanges have had to pare down their initial statistics. Covered California, that state’s subsidized insurance exchange, initially claimed that its website had received 5 million hits on October 1. They later had to revise that n
  12. I agree with Glassdogs about the camera. I had a very nice 35mm camera that I ended up throwing out because I couldn't get anything for it. I think the most I found anyone willing to pay for it was $7.00 YES, SEVEN DOLLARS.
  13. But what IS the American Dream? Is it a showcase house? Is it a roof over your head? Is it money in the bank? Is it enough to pay your bills? Is it having everything you ever dreamed of? Is it being happy with what you have? Keep in mind being happy with what you have doesn't mean you accept that is all you'll ever get. You're just happy with what you have and aren't willing to compromise your values, your morals or your freedom in order to have things.
  14. I didn't have a single doubt that you sent that out to the clients. I just wonder how many business owners knew it if their accountant didn't tell them. And wasn't there some kind of penalty per employee per day as well? I forgot where I read it (I've slept since I read it) but pretty sure there were a number of penalties in there. That's where I read the increase in the premiums for group health insurance plans that probably accounts for the majority of the increases people are seeing in their company insurance benefits.
  15. Unfortunately, $500 doesn't even begin to cover the licenses here. While Florida may not have a personal income tax, they do tax you every time you turn around. I've taken a tax course, years and years ago. Unfortunately, I did few of the routine tax returns and have gotten rusty. Most of what I did was small business returns, Schedule C returns almost exclusively. I do want to take a course because I know there are things I need to refresh and a few things I need to learn. I did the test at H&R Block last year and had I been more familiar with annuities and retirement plan
  16. 35 minutes on "hold" and then a sign in screen. When I attempt to sign in using the account I created on Tuesday morning I get this message: The information you entered isn't valid. Review this information. If you're having trouble, call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596. TTY users should call 1-855-889-4325. I'm done with them for now. Might try again before my doctor's appointment on Tuesday. Would really like to know my options and what I can expect insurance-wise for 2014 before discussing surgery.
  17. But I'm FORCED by the government to obtain the insurance. If I'm going to be coerced into something, it should be done when I'm ready to get it done as long as I'm not late doing it. I want to get on with my life and know what my obligations will be come January 1. You're likely not facing major surgery like I am. I need to know what it's going to cost me. I'd like to have an idea BEFORE I go to the doctor on Tuesday. If I can't get my health insurance or at least know what will be available, I can't decide about surgery. Should I go ahead and schedule it ASAP knowing that my insurance
  18. WOW. I'm impressed anyone got signed up. At that rate, it's about one every half hour. 2:30 p.m. October 3, I just went to the healthcare.gov website. Let's see how long it is until I get a sign in screen. 2:45, still waiting for a sign in screen.
  19. A lot of people like myself don't want to wait until 12/31/13 to get health insurance. We would rather know our options and our costs now. It's the "sightseers" who need to stay off the site. It really should be the ones who need insurance on there at this point, as it is at any time.
  20. I agree. It's not the people trying to access it, it's the site. I can get an e-mail back if I forgot my password, but the link doesn't work. I can't access the site because my user name is invalid according to them. That's not the number of people trying to get on there. That's the site. Oh well, not going to worry about it until next week or the next. I have time to get my insurance. And if they base your cost on how many people buy, it seems like there might be a definite advantage to being a latecomer.
  21. I started my own business not long after losing my job, while I was looking for a job. I closed the business when I moved. The costs involved in starting a business here in Florida are so much more than in Georgia and without knowing that I would have clients, I'm not willing to put forth the dollars to start one. I may feel differently after I get out and get to know people better. In the meantime, I'm looking for a job and am willing to take classes to prove to an employer I can do what I did for 15 years. While I was still up there, I was offered one job which was telemarketi
  22. No, I'm not "probably correct" on the increase due to Obamacare. Do your research about it and be sure to read the part about employers having to notify their employees about the exchanges even if they will continue to offer group health insurance. And nobody said costs never went up before that. All I said was there is a mandated increase due to ACA. It works out to be about $260 per insured employee. Or were never offered a job. Any job.
  23. Like I told a friend yesterday, I'll believe it when I see it. That could be. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that you had a choice of one so-so company and one not-so-good company. Keeping my fingers crossed that I get a get plan at a good price. Right now, I have more immediate concerns than health insurance. We're under a hurricane watch so that takes priority over the foolishness of the government at this particular time.
  24. I wonder who is paying the average $260 premium increase per covered employee? And that increase was mandated by the ACA. Did any of you get notices from your employers about the marketplace? No? Well, that was mandated by the ACA as well.
  25. I am going to the site because I am being forced by the government to buy health insurance. No going out of curiosity for me. I HAVE to have it and being the kind of person I am who does not wait until the last minute, I want to go ahead and get it over with so I can get on with my life. And no, I don't want government run health INSURANCE. Don't delude yourself into believing this is HEALTHCARE. It is not. That makes two of us. Maybe we're having problems because we live in states that actually care enough about their citizens to regulate who can and cannot sell health insur
