  1. The important questions are these: 1-- what are you going to use it for? 2-- which one do YOU want? 3-- how far into the future do you see yourself replacing the new one? Never mind what the sales guy says. What do you want? You're the one who is going to use it, not the guy in the blue shirt. Personally, I love desktops. Not sure what an "all in one computer" is but I love, and miss, fully loaded desktops. We have three laptops and I'd gladly trade in one of them for a good desktop. I haven't talked to anyone who likes Windows 8. My daughter has gotten used to it
  2. I think I'll mix up a pitcher of margarita to celebrate!
  3. I don't care what color ties they wear. If they don't have the best interest of the citizens of the country at heart, they have no friggin' business being there. That goes for Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Libertarians, liberals, conservatives, males, females, gay, straight, black, white or other. If they don't have the best interest of the country at heart, get them out of there! Anyone who thinks it is the other parties fault is totally clueless.
  4. Not directing this comment at anyone in particular or any political party in particular but it seems like if it's YOUR party that wants it, it's fine. If the other party wants it, even if it is the exact same thing, somehow it's all wrong. Whatever happened to doing what was in the best interest of the citizens and saying screw the party?
  5. I read a lot and generally don't read the New York Times bestsellers. I like lesser known books. Here are a few of the ones I've read the past year or so that I really liked: Georgia Bottoms by Mark Childress has to be one of the funniest books I ever read. Riproaringly funny. Keeper and Kid by Edward Hardy Trust No One by Gregg Hurwitz Home Front by Kristin Hannah (let me warn you in advance that you WILL need a box of tissues for that one) Porch Lights by Dorothea Benton Frank Return to Sullivans Island by Dorothea Benton Frank The Island by Erin Hilderbr
  6. One of the digital stations (MeTv, Tuff TV or something like that) had Rockford Files on. I loved Rockford. That show makes me think of Friday afternoons. Hunter was OK. Nothing and nobody could hold a candle to Jim Rockford.
  7. That's correct. Some question the use of PSA tests to diagnose for prostate cancer. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/detection/PSA Some advisory groups now recommend against the use of the PSA test to screen for prostate cancer because the benefits, if any, are small and the harms can be substantial. Mammograms are not without their risks that in some cases may outweigh the benefits. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/detection/mammograms Potential harms of screening mammography include false-negative results, false-positive results, overdiagnosis, overtrea
  8. Must be your computer. I have no problems with FB other than when I'm trying to play "Words with Friends" I can't do that using Chrome. The time I have the most problems online is with Pcom. 99 times out of 100, I go to Pcom and it says "connecting" and then I get a message that the page didn't load and that I need to reload. Once I do, it's fine.
  9. More on the "wonderful" health care systems of European nations: http://news.yahoo.com/europe-shift-focus-bowel-cancer-screening-save-lives-111016275.html AMSTERDAM(Reuters) - European governments should divert funds to routine bowel cancer tests from less effective breast and prostate screening programs, scientistssaid on Saturday, presenting what they called "irrefutable" evidence that bowel screening saves lives. Many governments devote significant funds to breast cancer screening, butstudies in recent years have found that routine breast mammograms can also leadto so-called "ov
  10. Thanks to MeTv, we still watch "Bonanza". And "Gunsmoke". Both were absolute favorites of mine. I really liked "Gunsmoke" because my dad and James Arness were dead ringers, except for the height. While most young girls were just in love with Little Joe, Adam was more my cup of tea. And who didn't love Hoss, the man with a heart as big as the rest of him. I remember that episode, Stradial. We saw it not long ago. I think back before Christmas when my husband was recovering from surgery and was watching TV all day, that was one of the episodes they showed. Neither of us remember
  11. Unless it is reintroduced next year, it's already done for in regard to this year's legislature.
  12. Wrong again. Patients per doctor in France: 300 Patients per doctor in US: 390 http://bigthink.com/strange-maps/185-the-patients-per-doctor-map-of-the-world
  13. I bet a lot of their improved health CARE includes more of the citizens being educated in what is and what isn't an emergency. I doubt that their citizens are sent for MRIs for colds or sprains. I doubt their citizens are sent for unnecessary and pointless testing just so the doctor can cover his/her ass and guard against malpractice claims. I doubt their citizens have the ability to file a malpractice claim because the outcome of a procedure wasn't what they expected even though they didn't follow doctors orders. Their food isn't laden with poisonous additives that somehow "we" have deeme
  14. Let's all say this together now. Just because you have health insurance does not mean you will receive better healthcare or have more choices in who you see. If you have health insurance you will be FORCED to see who accepts it whether or not they are your doctor and whether or not they speak English well enough for you to understand them or whether or not they are close to you or whether or not they provide quality care. Your only other choice will be to pay out of pocket AND pay for the insurance that you can't use. Wanna bet if you pay out of pocket, outside the network, that those
  15. How is it going to force insurance out? And keep in mind, insurance companies supported it. The fact that the health insurance industry supported Obamacare from the very beginning was entirely missed by the mainstream press. This is perhaps understandable, since 1) the mainstream press does not understand the dynamics of the healthcare system, and 2) during the Obamacare drama, the health insurance companies had been assigned, and had graciously accepted, their vital role as the Forces of Evil. To the famously credulous members of the mainstream press, it was easy to imagine that the in
  16. Look at the list of those arrested and charged with Medicare fraud. Yeah, that will make you have a warm fuzzy feeling for doctors. Attorney General Eric Holder and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced today that a nationwide takedown by Medicare Fraud Strike Force operations in eight cities has resulted in charges against 89 individuals, including doctors, nurses and other licensed medical professionals, for their alleged participation in Medicare fraud schemes involving approximately $223 million in false billings. Since their inception i
  17. I worked in the medical field for 17 years and I don't trust the vast majority of the doctors any further than I can throw them.
  18. And only 48% of Americans approve of Obama. 46% of American approve of repealing the health care law. So, if 39% of Americans approve of the GOP, they're pretty much in line. And 31% of Americans approve of the Democrats.
  19. Actually Republicans did try to fix the mortgage problem. They, as well as the Democrats, allowed the very organizations they were supposed to regulate--namely banking and mortgage--dictate to them, the regulators, what regulations to allow. It's downright criminal. And don't blame Republicans for all of this. The catalyst for the entire mortgage debacle was during the Carter administration. Then during the Clinton administration they simply allowed the mortgage companies and banks to run roughshod over them. NO governmental agency should allow an entity that they (should) have control o
  20. Doesn't matter if the cost increased $125 or $253 if there was no corresponding increase in income. At least Social Security used to give increases pretty much equal to how much Medicare would increase. And that's still having to pay MORE for what possibly could be less. Just HAVING health insurance isn't enough. That does not guarantee health care. Why is that such a difficult concept to understand? And not pointing out you but for anyone. Why is that difficult to understand. Granted, having health insurance increases your odds that you can receive health care but it does not gua
  21. So good to see Congress is working on a solution to the problem. The US Congress, entrenched in a titanic budget battle, managed to come together Thursday to pass legislation that prevents a market shortage of helium.
  22. Pubby and I discussed this in the past. It seems that now the Republican party has ideology along the lines of what the Democrats used to subscribe to and the Democrats have ideology more along the lines of what the Republicans used to have. I had an uncle who was a lifelong, staunch Democrat. In his opinion there was only one party--Democratic party. He was a large contributor and active in the party. He would roll over in his grave if he saw what the Democratic party seems to represent now. He would definitely be a Republican now. Little wonder a number of politicians have s
  23. I'm with you. Just give me the news and I'll form my own opinion. I don't need anyone to explain to me what someone said, especially don't need it explained from a particular political party. Like Detective Joe Friday said "just the facts m'am". And preferably in language that is simple to understand and doesn't give me a headache just trying to read it. Keep in mind, I read tax code!
  24. So which news channel, cable or otherwise, is the most fair, accurate and unbiased in its reporting?
