  1. We had two, or three, Brother fax machines and they were horrible! Awful. Terrible. We won't buy another Brother product EVER for personal use. Brother was no help with the problem we were having and didn't send our rebate. We had the same exact problem with all of the fax machines we bought. Brother never would accept responsibility. That said, we have a Brother fax/scanner/printer at work that we only use for faxing and it works great.
  2. Kudos to the Dallas PD!! A similar thing happened to my husband back in the 1990s when he was traveling a lot. He had worked 16 hours straight, was dead tired, had a massive headache and just simply forgot how to get to his hotel room. He went to the police station (in Jackson, AL where he was working), told them his problem and they escorted him to his hotel.
  3. I have an HP printer/scanner/copier that I love. It's a 1300 model, 1350 I think. It doesn't fax but we have a fax machine for that anyway.
  4. Contact Code Enforcement. If the houses are listed through a real estate agency, contact them as well. Not sure if Paulding Code Enforcement is as stringent as Cobb is, but I contacted Cobb about two neighbors houses on the 1st of June and one had their lawn mowed by the 5th. Still waiting on the other. BTW, you may need to sign up in advance to speak before the BOC. Contact them to find out. The county can have the grass cut and will bill the property owner. At least Cobb does. We have a bank owned house right across the street from us. When the first real estate
  5. I really enjoyed talking with you today, Nick. Glad to hear the city and county is taking note of these bowlers.
  6. What are your favorite movie quotes? Mine: From "Jaws" -- Brody: "We're going to need a bigger boat"
  7. As I headed in this morning, just before 10, I saw several people sitting in cars and standing in the parking lot next to Curl's. It was like they were waiting for something or someone. There didn't appear to have been an accident and there were few cars in the city lot next to the AT&T building. Wonder if this is what it was?
  8. Cobb County decided not to do assessments unless there was a change in the property somehow--ownership, additions, etc. Sooooooooooooooo, ours did not change at all.
  9. I'd love to stop by and watch but can't. they are amazing bowlers, aren't they? when you have the time, I need to talk to you about having some portraits done. We have a very happy granddaughter we would like to have professionally photographed.
  10. Someone in the office was wondering where you were since we didn't see you yesterday. I said you were probably at the bowling center taking photos. If you didn't stop by the office yesterday, please come by while we're there. Someone dropped off something for you on Monday.
  11. They probably, out of habit, bought the same size clothing they wore two years ago. Only the clothing manufacturers have changed the sizes and none of the sizes fit anymore. And exactly when did a large become a Misses 12-14 and a medium become a Misses 8-10? I've lost over 25 pounds since early 2007. If I buy clothes the same exact size, by the same exact brand, from the same exact store, they don't fit like the ones I bought in 2006 or 2007. I've had to go UP a size (or two) and even at that, they aren't big enough to fit sometimes. I can take out a shirt I bought in 2006 that is t
  12. I ate there a few weeks ago. Really, really enjoyed it. Will be back.
  13. Maybe to your mom, no but you did say you cried all night and that the thought of another man in your "dad's" house was driving you crazy. That, to me, is reacting badly to a situation which is out of your control. Like it or not, that house is more than likely now your MOM's house. Again, I'm not saying I don't understand your concern and your problem. I do. I simply believe that you and your brother are trying to run your mom's life, whether or not you admit that. The only thing that is virtually guaranteed to come out of those efforts is alienating yourself from your mom and you
  14. you wrote in post #1: Im just really having a problem with this, I knew there was a possibility, but the thought of another man in my dads house just drives me crazy. I cried all night after I found out Have to wonder what you consider "reacted badly". BTW, I do understand your concern. I might have had a conniption fit had my mom dated after my dad died. That doesn't change the fact that she is a grown woman and doesn't have to answer to you, your brother or anyone else. I hope you are showing support for her, even if you don't like her choices. My guess is she did the same fo
  15. A lot of reasons she may have hidden him. She may have felt that you and/or your brother wouldn't approve because of: his age (might be sigifnicantly younger) his race you know him he might be married or someone you think is married Then again, maybe HE just isn't comfortable meeting you and your brother just yet. I would think that if he was out to con her, he would be bending over backwards to earn YOUR trust.
  16. First of all, unless this guy is obviously being abusive to your mom, it is her life and she can do with it as she pleases. Much like when you dated, even giving the impression that you don't want this relationship to continue may actually *cause* it to continue. Something about forbidden fruit tasting sweeter. Second, I don't have experience in this area. My mom never wanted another man in her life after my dad passed away. Third, my brother married for the second time at the age of 70, so no, 65 isn't too old to date again. My son in law is dealing with this issue
  17. We were sitting outside last night, well after dark, and I thought I heard LifeFlight go over. Now I know why. So sad. Hope the guy is OK. McEachern is no longer the school it was when my kids went there. Then again, Powder Springs is no longer the town it was when we moved here 30 years ago.
  18. Hmmmm. Waffle House or going home and cooking it myself. What would be the choice? Cooking it myself, for certain. And my son in law works for Waffle House. It is tough to make a go at it in business right now. Any kind of business. A restaurant is even riskier than most other types of businesses. I applaud those who have opened restaurants lately. They have more guts than I do. My hubby and I just started a business a few months ago but thankfully, we don't have to rely on the general public as our customers are specific businesses within a specific industry. Again
  19. I told Penguin they had good food over there!
  20. I don't know why Azalea House closed. I doubt it wasn't because of a lack of customers. They were always busy. I also doubt it was competition. It is my understanding that they are not "out of business" but temporary closed. Perhaps they had a family emergency or illness that caused them to close so suddenly. I hope they will be back. They have great food, even if a bit pricey. Bandidos closing was completely unrelated to hours of operation or lack of business. So which other restaurants in downtown HAVE closed? We still have Joan's, Main Street Sandwich Shoppe, Sals and Azal
  21. To read this, you get the idea that businesses can't survive in downtown Dallas. We have been in this office building on Main Street since September 1996. There have been changes but it seems as though everyone here is doing just fine. Most of the businesses in downtown have been here as long as we have. Restaurants come and go; here today, gone tomorrow. They really aren't a good indication of how an area is doing business-wise or how the other businesses in the area are being able to survive. Serving the customers is what keeps a business in business. If there are no customers a
  22. I'd list some of the businesses in and around the downtown area but who has the time!! I work on Main Street. We see a LOT of foot traffic even now without the courthouse in downtown. Car traffic isn't any better now that the courthouse has moved. They still stop as far back as Sal's Pizza from the traffic light at the old courthouse. Off and one all day, mind you!! It would be nice if people realized that downtown Dallas was more than a way to get from 278 to 61 North, but I'm sure there are a lot of people who have NO CLUE what is in the downtown area. They either never go th
  23. There was a nice mix of people in there the day we went. Some who obviously work in the downtown area and some who don't. Why stay open late in downtown Dallas when everything closes at 5?
  24. We went there last week. Yum, yum!! Lots of food and a good price. We will definitely go back!!
