now that I have a data plan on my phone, what can I do?
Mama Carol replied to Mama Carol's topic in RECENT TOPICS
two of those three are really important! -
Hubby had a data plan for such a short time, I have no idea what I can or cannot do. Any ideas????????

I'd sleep more if my body would let me. By the time I'm in bed 5 or 6 hours, I start having sciatic pain and knee pain and have to get up. I can walk around for 5 minutes and go back to bed and sleep another couple of hours but most of the time, hubby is up and we're ready to go.

'IF FRED GOT TWO BEATINGS PER DAY…' Homework Asks

Interesting reading: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aia/part4/4p2956.html Enslaved African Americans could never forget their status as property, no matter how well their owners treated them. But it would be too simplistic to say that all masters and slaves hated each other. Human beings who live and work together are bound to form relationships of some kind, and some masters and slaves genuinely cared for each other. But the caring was tempered and limited by the power imbalance under which it grew. Within the narrow confines of slavery, human relationships ran the gamut from compassionate to c -

That's EXACTLY what I've been saying--why make a MATH question about slavery. But you could easily make a math question that incorporates the history lesson, the history lesson being about slavery. I just don't think those two particular things SHOULD EVER be taught together. It waters down the history and it takes away from the math, as we have seen. Now the lesson isn't about math, it is about what is and isn't racist. And how in the heck did you read my questions as being in "present tense". and yet the school system mandated that subjects be combined to strengthen the under -
I HIGHLY recommend Steven at Computer Rescue. His number is 678-848-7079.

LPPT beat me to it! One could definitely tie in math and history of slavery without mentioning beatings. The question I saw on the news was a good one--about how many bushels of cotton could be picked by 8 slaves. That still ties in the two things but does not mention violence. I, for one, think a question that goes something like this would be great: if 45% of the population owned slaves and the number of slaves was 500,000, how many slaves did the AVERAGE slave owner own? Or let's change that around to there are 500,000 slaves in the US (yes, that includes northern states) and the -

Yep. My SIL has pointed this out to me numerous times. He did not work in an industry that utilized migrant workers but did work in an industry that utilized illegal immigrants. He made the comparison between the two -- illegal/migrant workers and slaves -- many times. -

I fully understand the courses are not standalone, independent subjects. There really needs to be some reasonable reasoning behind co-mingling two subjects. Slavery and math just don't make sense to me. Literally, neither make sense to me. I still say the lesson was just plain and simply poor judgment. It could easily have been done without the imagery they used. -

You cannot honestly and truthfully teach history without being offensive to some group of people. It's simply not possible. But don't sugar coat it. Just realize that to be honest about history means someone somewhere sometime is going to be offended. I just can't see why history and math need to be mixed. -

If you really wanted a history lesson thrown in with the math lesson, put a lesson about how many MILLIONS of acres the white man took from the Indians. And guess which racial group would find offense with that. I, too, have a lot of Native American blood in me. My maternal great grandmother was full blooded Native American, and rumored to be Cherokee. I have my doubts about that one for a number of reasons but there is NO doubt she was full blooded Native American. Perhaps the Social Studies lesson at the time was about the poor treatment of the slaves and not the positive thin -

Lowrider, I seriously, seriously, SERIOUSLY doubt that there would have been any claims of inappropriate material had it used "Native Americans". Yes, if it had been Nazis and Jews, Hispanics or even Muslims the outcry would have been as much as it is now. But with Native Americans? Nope. There would not have been a peep out of anyone. It's been 12 or 13 years since I had a kid in school but I remember when she was still in school they were trying to incorporate history into the math lessons, math into the language lessons, etc. I thought it was wrong then and I still think it's wro -

I agree with you on this. It's all a matter of perspective. I am not one to get offended, at almost anything. I have such a diversity of races, religions and nationalities in my family, that I have a different perspective about things in general. I might get "offended" for someone else such as my kids or grandkids long before I'll get offended at things about me. I, too, am 'sensitive' to matters of race but I don't get offended by it. Now, you say something bad about my mixed race grandchildren, I might get angry but not likely offended. Anyone who can't see that people are people and -

Who could have seen this coming? I mean really, when they start tying together different subjects, don't you think that SOMEONE is going to make a poor decision in tying lessons together? Thank goodness my niece who teaches in Gwinnett teaches band. -
Can we do this for our children and grand children?
Mama Carol replied to goodmom2's topic in RECENT TOPICS
done! Even though I don't live in Paulding, I work there (sometimes), have almost all my clients in Paulding and have many friends in Paulding. I also know a couple of school system employees so I'm doing this for them and the kids. -
That's what I was thinking. I honestly don't remember a Winn Dixie in *HIRAM*. EVER. Isn't that new store supposed to be Dick's?
-
Not yet. My hubby's grandmother lived for years and years in West Palm. We visited her on our honeymoon. I really like that part of Florida. We're hoping to be moving to the Pensacola area. Someday.
-
Old Winn Dixie in Hiram????? You mean there was one? I thought I knew all of them in this area and don't recall one in Hiram. And I think all old Winn Dixie locations are accounted for--Powder Springs (Brownsville Rd) is getting a church, Douglasville (Highway 92 at Brownsville) has a Food Lion, Business 6 store at Charles Hardy Parkway has a furniture store, Dallas Highway is now Stars and Strikes, Dallas (Highway 61 S) is a Food Lion. I honestly don't recall one in Hiram.

Nope, can't switch your power provider. Gas provider, yes. Maybe the information you received about switching service is for gas. And you may have received something like that and not even have a gas provider. We have gotten something about switching our gas service and we're total electric. We are on Greystone. BTW, is FloridaGirl from Florida? If so, where?

Why is the Medical Records Poll thread closed?

all well and good unless the provider no longer has the records. Then no amount of money will bring them back. That's why it is IMPERATIVE that you obtain your own records with each visit. -
Milk From Almonds, Rice, Oats, Coconut, Soy, Or Hemp
Mama Carol replied to ButterflyLion's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I had a coupon for Almond Breeze almond milk so I thought I'd give it a try. It was AWESOME. I loved it! Especially with Honey Nut Cheerios. I don't buy it as a general rule because of the cost. My daughter buys lactose-free milk for the girls because they both seem to have inherited her lactose intolerance. And one of them is sensitive to soy milk, so that made it a challenge for her. -
I have to correct myself. The ruins at Sweetwater are NOT like Mayan ruins. They are similar to ruins found in Cuba and are believed to be ancient. OK, so HUBBY had to correct me on this.
-
I'm not 100% sure it is on park property. I'll ask my hubby. He was telling me about it the other day. He's now a frequent visitor to Sweetwater Creek State Park.
