Federal Court Upholds GA Ban on Guns in Churches

Yep. Me, too. -
Please tell me I am not the only person on the planet who literally gets nauseated at the thought of these little girls being paraded around like hookers and strippers. How in the world do these parents live with the knowledge of what they are doing to these kids? The parents should be ASHAMED. Of course the child says "yes, mama, I want to do that dance". They want to please their mama and they have absolutely no clue that it's obscene. And to hear that little girl talk just grates on my nerves.

Private: belonging to some particular person; pertaining to or affecting a particular person or small group of individuals. Examples would be churches, private businesses (such as Pcom) and homes. Generally, the owner determines what is and is not allowed--firearms, smoking, hours of operation in the case of a business, etc. Public: property owned by the government or one of its agencies, divisions, or entities. Commonly a reference to parks, playgrounds, streets, sidewalks, schools, libraries and other property regularly used by the general public. Generally, since public funds (ta -

Since I'm a big supporter of separation of church and state, I really don't believe it is the place of the government to tell churches what they can and cannot allow. If the church (the group of people, not the building) wants to allow it, then they should have that right. Next thing you know, the courts will mandate that Baptist churches provide life jackets to all those who are there to be baptized because it is SAFER. -

I'm not familiar enough with carry laws to answer that. I would think if she had a carry permit that SHE could. -
Restaurant servers Not being paid hourly rate

You might want to provide the Ga DOL and the US DOL with the name of that establishment IF you know for a fact that they are not getting at least minimum wage. Again, unless you're doing the payroll you really don't know for certain what or how a server is getting paid. For all you know, they might be making $20 an hour in tips. I have never researched the legality of paying a server by tip only but it would seem to me that as long as they made minimum wage there would be nothing wrong with it. I've heard of restaurants that paid the server minimum wage and then whatever they got in t -

Yes, but at one time laudanum was legal. Another time alcohol was NOT legal. And if my memory of history is correct, crime was rampant during Prohibition AND people still drank alcohol. I still feel much more fear at the idea of a 16 year old girl behind the wheel of a Mustang with a cell phone plastered to her ear than I do with someone who has a valid carry permit carrying a firearm into a church. Odds are that gun isn't going to hurt me or anyone else but odds are that 16 year old just might. -

It depends on the restaurant. There is still allocated tips though I really haven't seen that much in the last 10-12 years. I agree. Not at all fair. You bust your butt and get the same tips that someone who spends half their shift out back smoking. -

Ummmm, the restaurants that have little trouble keeping servers. Why was the employer contacted after the fall? The insurance company should have been handling it all. That's what the employer PAYS them for. The employer was probably correct in saying that the server didn't work there. Anymore. -

The federal minimum wage has been $7.25 an hour for several years. Actually, according to the USDOL, since 2010, so the quote below is inaccurate. The federal minimum wage is NOT $5.15 an hour. I was actually working for a company that did payroll for a couple of restaurants when it went from $5.15 to $5.85 in 2008 and then to $6.55 in 2009. That can certainly happen but she's gotten that money each day, in the form of tips. -

Nope. Minimum wage in Georgia is $5.25 an hour. $7.25 an hour. My fingers get ahead of me. Where Federal and state law have different minimum wage rates, the higher standard applies. Since the federal minimum wage is more than than the state, the federal amount is required. Some states have a HIGHER minimum wage. In those cases, the state minimum wage is the prevailing wage. -

Actually there is a minimum but a lot of restaurants pay more than the minimum. If you KNOW FOR A FACT that a server isn't making minimum wage ($7.25 an hour) then suggest to them that they report it to the Department of Labor. Unless you're doing the payroll for the restaurant, you have no way of knowing what the server is paid. Sadly, most people have no idea what they get paid, especially if they get paid minimum wage or slightly more. Many people have no clue about withholding taxes and look at their paycheck, divide that amount by the hours worked and go "oh crap, I didn't make m -

I hear you. I wasn't intimidating in my youth and now that I'm nearing 60, have gray hair and a mild limp, even my 2 year old granddaughter isn't intimidated by me. -

Like I said, if they have a sign up and I'm carrying, I have the right not to enter their place of business. EVER. I'm likely to do just that. I seriously doubt the private property owner is going to strip search people for firearms. IF they notice you have it, they can ask you to leave and that's it. BTW, I have a difficult enough time finding *anything* in my purse, so the odds of a merchant getting a glimpse of any firearm I might be carrying in there would be nil. I just hope I don't mistake my cologne spray for my pepper spray. -

The one at my church finished on time. He had incentive. It was called "beat the Baptists and Methodists to Golden Corral". Wouldn't have surprised me one bit to find that he carried a concealed weapon to church. He often went deer hunting before church and I know he had handguns. You're absolutely correct. If they find out you're carrying, all they can do is ask you to leave. My guess is they aren't going to have you lift your jacket to see if you're wearing a holster and aren't going to look in my purse to see if I've got anything. My point is if I see a sign and I'm c -

That 2 miles away might be out of range. We had a farm out in southern Douglas County. At the back of the property, we had no cell coverage. None. Nada. Zilch. Drive halfway up the hill to the middle of the property and we had great coverage. Then get on the road in front of the property, nothing. Go a half mile toward 166 and great coverage again. Cross 166 and enter another dead zone. Here at home, I literally can have four bars if I'm out in the sunroom and "no service. Emergency calls only" if I'm in the kitchen, less than 20 feet away. I've had to go to the parking lot -

You're correct. A church isn't a public place. It is private property. You're also correct in that they don't have to allow you inside. Most will because of the desire for your money. I love that church--the one we both went to! Gotta love a church you get married in, especially when you're still married 34 years later. -

Doubtful, unless you went to church in extreme southern Douglas County. We had a whole pew filled with outcasts one morning. You should have seen the looks we got! That particular morning it was a good thing they didn't allow guns in church. If they had, I wouldn't be here. -

Nope. Just means the "bad guy" who is shooting up everything MIGHT get taken out and more INNOCENT people will be saved. Edited to add this: I have a friend who carries daily and has for years. I have not once heard of an incident where people were injured or killed because he carried his firearm with him. Since he's a free man I doubt he's been involved in any shootings. Maybe the firearm did by itself but I doubt that. -

I have always found T-Mobile easy to deal with. I have terrible cell coverage at home. Maybe that's your problem, too. Maybe it's where you are trying to use the phones. Anyway, have you called them and told them the situation--that you're dropping calls, can't make calls, have no service, etc? Tell them you certainly want to honor your contract BUT you're not getting anything for your money and ask for their help in remedying that. And ASK for their help. If they can't help you, bite the bullet and pay the $800 to get out of the contract. You really don't have an option unless -

Does that mean people don't EVER drive drunk? Nope. And a large majority of those who do don't care what the law says. I sure hope that if I'm ever unfortunate enough to be in an area where there is a deranged gunman that SOMEONE in the crowd WILL be legally carrying and will be willing to defend us all. It might be me, even. -

Really? Just because a law-abiding citizen carries a firearm it increases the risk that something bad can happen? It's not the law abiding citizen, who knows how to handle a firearm safely who poses the risk. It's the nutcase who has delusions and KNOWS that nobody will confront him because they have been rendered unable to defend themselves thanks to the anti-gun lobby calling for gun control. It's the career criminal who doesn't give a rat's furry behind about legally obtaining a weapon. Confront someone with a weapon and watch that career criminal high-tail it out of town. I had
