  1. Very true. However, she has the power, though maybe not the control, in this relationship. If she decides he isn't going to control her anymore, guess what, he can't.
  2. I live in extreme southwest Cobb, between Powder Springs and Austell, near the rail yard. I'm as close to Hiram as I am to Austell (by a few feet and talking about "downtown" not city limits). I can go about a mile and a half and be in Douglas or go a different direction about a mile and a half and be in Paulding. I think I live within shouting distance to RhondaW. I've been here for 33 1/2 years having moved from Mableton where I lived for nine months after getting married. I grew up in Smyrna, on land my grandfather had purchased in 1917. I was born at Kennestone Hospital when i
  3. JJ, didn't you know the economy was getting better? Just because Tennessee and New York and Georgia, in particular, saw more unemployment the past two weeks does not negate the fact that the economy is getting better. Right?
  4. I'd think so. Then again, I don't live in Paulding. Maybe y'all do things a little different over there than we do over here in Cobb.
  5. She was 7 days older than my precious granddaughter Starr, who I will hug extra next time I see her. I cannot imagine what the parents and grandparents are going through. Hugs, loving thoughts and prayers to all of them.
  6. My sister in law seems to suffer from this. She adamantly defends her parents in spite of the fact that she was abused sexually, physically and emotionally.
  7. There are a NUMBER of websites that exist that could fit the description. And some of them even have accurate information.
  8. Businesses factor in all their expense in deciding what to charge for their product and service. That includes taxes, regardless of the kind. They don't pay the taxes, the customer does. Granted, they might charge more than necessary, at which point that becomes profit. There is no LOST revenue. You either earn revenue or you don't. You can't lose something you don't have. An exemption only means that that particular entity (or person) does not have to pay a tax or a portion of a tax. It does not represent a loss. It wasn't due, so it can't be lost. It's an adjustment in what is
  9. To be fair, the symptoms of hemochromatosis are so varied, you couldn't possibly list them all. Not everyone has them all. I had minor abdominal pain but major fatigue. I also was in the doctor's office every single month the year I was diagnosed with various infections--pneumonia twice, skin infection three times -- and then just general overpowering fatigue. Depression also goes along with it. I have never had the darkening of the skin. Not everyone does. I have a neighbor with it and he does not have the darkening of the skin. Neither did my aunt. Neither did my dad. I also did no
  10. Suggest to him that he ask his doctor for a full iron panel. Very possibly iron overload. VERY treatable if caught early.
  11. Excellent suggestion about the Tylenol. Also any NSAID can do it--Aleve, Motrin, Advil. Because of my hemochromatosis, I don't allow Tylenol in my house unless it is in a prescription such as Vicodin that includes it. Then we ask for the lowest dose of acetaminophen possible. Actually it isn't one blood test for this. It is a combination of tests. Ferritin, serum ferritin, total iron binding capacity and percent saturation are the tests that will look for it. A liver biopsy has in the past been the gold standard for diagnosis. A DNA test can be done now that will tell you if y
  12. Me, too!! I was 37 when mine was diagnosed but I was in my early 30s when my liver enzymes started being high.
  13. Are they heavy meat eaters? Take lots of multi-vitamins with iron? My guess, and I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV, is that they BOTH had mono or some type of virus, especially if your teen AND his girlfriend both have them. What prompted the bloodwork? I had high liver enzymes back in the late 1980s, the 1990s and as recently as 2010. I wasn't a teenager, though. The first question the doctor posed to me in the late 1980s was had I been feeling ill. Other than a bout with a horrible stomach virus, the answer was no. Mine turned out to be due to too high iron. Good
  14. A sales tax is a pass through tax. Generally, the tax amount is collected by the business from the consumer. When the business has to pay the sales tax, much like an ordinary consumer, this gets passed along to the consumer as "product cost" or overhead, just like the cost of manufacture of the product does or the cost of labor. To think otherwise is to show no concept of how businesses determine the cost of their product or service. Jet fuel was already exempt from part of the sales tax (SPLOT) and 1.8% of the 5% state sales tax. This expired in 2011, though. Off-road fuel has been
  15. Georgia law would have to be changed to remove the exemptions. I personally think EVERYONE should pay the tax if passed. However, if a business has to "pay" the tax, it is only passed on to the consumer anyway.
  16. I don't understand the fuss. LOTS of certain businesses are exempt from sales tax, so why wouldn't they be exempt from the TSPLOST?
  17. Well, for starters, you can find out what someone paid for their house by looking at the tax and real estate records. You can also find out if they paid the taxes and what they were. Many websites have personal information on them--Facebook, Circle of Moms, and I'm sure lots of others. But if you read the OP *closely* you will see where she says the man was asking the neighbor for the names and ages of that person's children. She did not say in the post that he KNEW that information, only that he was ASKING for that information. She also said that once that neighbor refused to t
  18. Yep, I'm a character in a famous series of detective stories. That is just about ALL you find by Googling my name.
  19. So, he ASKED for the neighbors kids names an ages and didn't already know them??? Is that what you're saying? Sounds like a salesman, if so.
  20. We figure that since ours does not require any bank, credit union, mortgage company or third party involvement and ONLY US, that should be a huge plus. Not only that, our house, while it would be priced higher than any local foreclosure, it would be move-in ready. I'm with you about the short sale process. We won't even LOOK at a house that is a short sale. We have looked at Fannie Mae, credit union and mortgage company owned properties but only one short sale and fortunately, we found out the same day that our offer wasn't accepted. Just too much hassle to go through for a short sal
  21. We are even willing to let them go with the house for the right price on the house. I'd much rather not have to move all that equipment 365 miles to Milton, FL. Apple pie would be a good smell.
  22. We have few pictures of any kind--beachy looking pictures mostly. I like landscapes. Boldest color in the house is the very light yellow kitchen walls. And I do mean LIGHT yellow. Painted last year but we do have a few places that need touch up. The people who fixed our foyer did a great job at fixing the foyer but did a pretty lousy job at being easy on the walls around it. We have the areas patched, just need to sand them and paint. We have the paint left from the job. It's a stock color from Porter. Smallest bedroom will likely be empty except for possibly my exercise bik
