  1. Sorry, but if I saw a seven foot three rattler (which this was) I would still be impressed. The pictures are real, but the description isn't. My yikes still stands.
  2. Well the blues world lost another guitar great. Hubert Sumlin, noted by Rolling Stone as one of the world's great guitarist, died at 80 of heart failure. Those of you who saw Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Fest this year saw what was one of his last performances. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tEVB-t04OU
  3. BB, we all think the world of you too. This is perhaps the silliest thread in weeks. I have my big girl panties on so it's all good.
  4. Wow Laurie, that's amazing. You have a huge heart and a new furry best friend to show for it. The world is a much better place with folks like you.
  5. Behave yourself or BB will pray for you. Even worse, I might, and we know how horribly wrong that could go.

  7. Me too. I guess that it's all in who the target of the bashing is.
  8. No, this thread isn't political at all.
  9. You may not be old enough to remember Lilly Tomlin as Ernestine the telephone operator. Each skit involved a silly but bad customer service situation. When the customer demanded satisfaction, she ended every skit with "we're the phone company, we don't have to". That's the attitude that is absolutely prolific within the telecommunications and software industries right now. They have long, complicated, usury customer agreements that 99.9% never read. Apparently you signed away any right to privacy when you bought the phone and the plan. Obviously, not one customer intentionally did this,
  10. It's not an "article", it's an opinion piece by Mr. Hannauer, who is the founder of the "True Patriot Network", a progressive think tank. He is also a large contributor to progressive candidates and causes. He is the author of several "raise my taxes" editorials anywhere he can get them published. I have quite a list of opinion authors on the other side of the arguement if anyone is interested.
  11. An engineer would say that it has twice the necessary capacity. Actually it is not a half full or half empty proposition. It is a dry report that can be cherry picked and taken out of context by those trying to gain favor with an unsuspecting public, or those unfamiliar with the reporting methods. LPPT, being the good person that she is, was merely a victim of that. 8.6% sounds wonderful until you dig a little deeper and find that the roses are an illusion, not a matter of opinion.
  12. It turns out that there is a piece of incredibly sophisticated spyware on nearly every smart phone in existence that was placed there by your carrier. Nearly every carrier. Sprint, ATT, and T-Mobile admit to it's existence, and Verizon isn't saying. Sprint is apparently the most prolific user. They all say, however that they don't "use" the information that they clearly have access to. Yeah, right. Carrier IQ is aware of SMS content, secure web traffic, contacts, key presses, and more. Once this sinks in, you may want to contact your carrier and the FTC, who will soon get involved, an
  13. The monthly change in the number of people not in the labor force rose by 487,000.
  14. Selfishness and stupidity are not mental illnesses. If she and the baby daddies are unwilling or unable to take care of her children they should be prosecuted for neglect and/or endangerment and sent to jail. That's also a year she won't be having children.
  15. It doesn't take a village, just two responsible adults. The somebody who needs to take care of her kids is her and her baby daddy(s). Medical science has recently come up with a huge scientific breakthrough. They now know what causes children to be born and how to prevent it. She gets no sympathy from me. Children will continue to be born into these circumstances until so called parents can be punished for gross irresponsibility. The taxpayer doesn't need to subsidize their sexual activities by taking away the consequences of their actions. Her children are being given food, shelter, and an
  16. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade. The numbers I posted are factual. The link I posted is the actual government source of the figures, not an article or analysis of them, and anyone can go and read the numbers for themselves. If anyone has an issue with my explanation of the numbers, please Google the subject before starting in on me, and you will see that I am not being a Negative Nellie, but I am echoing the vast majority of the knowledgeable analysis out there. It's just that the BLS situation summary is often misunderstood by those who don't keep up with such things on a mon
  17. Th 8.6% figure is supposedly seasonally adjusted, but this is far from an exact science. Most observers have noted that we had an early Thanksgiving this year, and seasonal hiring happens earlier when that happens. This means that the October numbers that were revised up, will likely be revised back down, and that November numbers may be slightly inflated also. It is impossible to know how many of the 50,000 retail jobs created in November will be sustainable past January. Revisions to the Christmas season numbers will probably continue until March of next year.
  18. The BLS survey provides six different unemployment figures, and the raw data used to calculate them. The "Headline" figure, known as U-3, is the one the government likes to quote because it ignores discouraged, marginally attached, and forced part time workers in the number. It's not just "Obama", but it's whomever is is charge, because it makes the picture look quite a bit rosier than it truly is to those who don't understand how the BLS survey works. Bottom line, until we can sustain nonfarm increases above 150,000 for a significant period, we cannot declare that an employment recover i
  19. LPPT, the devil is in the details. There is a reason why the stock market didn't go banannas over the news. People who drop out of the job market because they gave up and haven't actively searched for work in the last 4 weeks are not included in the headline 8.6%. Total nonfarm payroll increased by only 120,000 this month, actually less than the monthly average for the last 12 months (131,000). This is the important number to watch, because it takes a sustained average of over 150,000 jobs per month to match the population growth. We are still not in a jobs recovery. BLS Employment Situ
  20. That is absolutely correct. The Director, Thomas Frieden, is in no way implicated in this horrible scheme. In fact, Dr. Lindsey is not even listed on their organizational chart, which indicates that she is probably pretty far down on the totem pole.
  21. If I were China, I'd be droppin'a load right about now.
  22. Just more "redistribution", spreading the pain. This will make the Euro more stable, but at the cost of the dollar. There is no doubt that the EU is in deep doo doo after years of deficit spending and the resulting debt. This may be a last ditch effort to save it by Bernanke and co. Germany already has one foot out the door. The question in many analyst's mind is if this is just a temporary bandaid that will make the fall of the EU even more painful for the US than it would otherwise be, and it will hurt us either way. I don;t believe that spreading the exposure will solve the problem w
  23. It never was to anyone who could read a FED balance Sheet. Congress was well aware of what was going on. Don't let DK fool you.
  24. FED Moves to Bolster Eurozone The US FED today slashed Dollar Borrowing costs by discounting temporary U.S. dollar liquidity swap arrangements by 50 basis points, putting the new rate as the U.S. dollar overnight index swap rate plus 50 basis points. The effect is that of debasing the US Dollar and boosting the EURO. The ECB has said that they will honor all requests for US Dollar swaps. This was in response to the ECB's inability to sell bonds at the last auction. We are now backing not only our own banks, but now all of the European Union with taxpayer dollars and created currency.
