  1. I think each generation is requiring less of their kids. It is up to each of us to do more to help our kids. Manners teach respect. We have too few children with respect.

We were taught not to interrupt an adult's conversation. Respond if an adult spoke to us. Were told not to say “yeah”, but” yes” when speaking with and adult.

Keep your feet on the floor, not on someone’s chair, couch or table. Don’t touch or lean on the walls. Respect people houses and yards. Don’t pull on trees or plants, and watch where you step. Manners have to do with respecting other people’s property and living together in a civilized way.

You held the door for women, or to be kind to someone who had their hands full or who needed a little extra help (elderly or a mom with babies.) Men helped a woman with her chair, and stood as a woman left the table. You offered your seat to anyone older than you, or someone with special needs. A man would offer his seat to a woman, and either stand or go get another chair.

Of course: please and thank you. Greeting people with good morning, good afternoon, or good evening...even just “hi” with a smile...is that too much to ask?

We had to ask to be excused from the table...May I be excused? Were not allowed to put our elbows on the table while eating. We were taught table etiquette for passing items, how to ask for someone to pass you something you needed, what side the water glass, bread and butter plate, or salad plate was on. You put your napkin in your lap before a meal started. Did not lick your fingers, pick your teeth, or blow your nose at the dinner table.

I have tried very hard to teach my sons table manners and etiquette. It is always interesting to be at a business dinner or lunch at a round table and watch the confusion as no one is sure which fork, knife or water glass is theirs. I want my kids to feel comfortable in any situation.

No matter if others are rude and have no manners I think you get further in life with civility and manners. I often get compliments on how helpful, kind, and courteous my kids are. THAT makes it worth all the time and effort I spent to hold my kids up to a higher level. I let them know that our family holds higher standards when they would complain their friend’s parents were not so mean or demanding.

It is not easy to teach manners or anything else that makes it easier for a group of people to live together. Common courtesy to pick up your shoes, hang up your towel, make your bed every morning, put away your clothes, clean up after yourself....so many different levels of having manners.

  2. That is much better.

Meltid is a one women crusader in this county against ignorance.

She has done so much to educate people about spaying and neutering in this county, she still has a long way to go.

The numbers at the shelter tell it all.

When you are looking at that kitten or puppy, you need to make sure you have the money right then and there to have it fixed, if not walk away.

The animal would be better off put down, because by letting an animal reproduce you are condemning thousands to death.

Meltid's goal is to try to make sure that every animal is fixed to prevent the death of millions in the future.

She sees all that are put down and the endless suffering that never ends, she is passionate about what she does.

She takes help anywhere she can get it, volunteers, vets, fund raisers ect.

Not everyone is passionate enough to assist.

But thank God for the ones that are.

Our state needs to do more...it can not be just Meltid..one person no matter how noble can not solve this.

You know, when we moved to Georgia we were surprised that so many people had pets that had never been spayed or neutered.

Many states require you to license your pet. They financially "encourage" you to have them fixed by charging more for the license of an un-altered animal. The cost every year is equal to the cost of a spay or neuter plus the tag fee...so, you will pay one way or another. Those funds help off set the cost of animal control having to deal with unwanted litters of animals.

In the states that require a license, most shelters and animal control will not release an animal until it has been spayed or neutered. If it is too young you must pay a large ($200 or more) deposit which you are given back once you show your certificate of spay or neuter.

I hate more government...but it is obvious too many people here have animals breeding with no thought. They dump them in my neighborhood all the time. My last three animals (two I currently have now) were dumped in my subdivision. They were not bad animals...they were not ugly animals...they are very loving sweet animals; some family just could not find homes for the babies their animals produced.

Instead of placing the burden on Vet’s to give away their services, maybe we should look at what the problem is…too many unwanted animals. Hold people accountable to be a good owner and not have litters of unwanted animals! Animals are an on going expense. A family must look at that prior to making that pet part of their family.

  3. The very first movie that made me cry was 'Old Yeller.' And the end of 'It's a Wonderful Life' gets me *every time*.

The first movie I remember crying at was Dumbo. When the mom and he are holding their trunks, and they are separating Dumbo from his mom. Dumbo and his mom are trying to hold on, but they loose touch. It's animated for heaven sakes!

But Bridges of Madison County is an emotional one too.

I want to see Bucket List again...great story line, great actors and the ending is happy sad ... my favorite way for a movie to end...many had tears in their eyes.

  4. The only thing I hate about dishes is that as soon as I get them "done," the kids bring more. Oh, and waking up the next morning to see that whoever cleaned the kitchen conveniently "left" the pots that didn't fit in the dishwasher for me to do. :glare:

Do you have a sock basket, too?

I hate that dishes seem to never end...I get the kitchen clean...dishes done, counters clean, 4 hours later (or when the mob comes home) no one would ever know.

I hate socks too...A) they leave them the wrong way. Who wants to put their hand in someone else’s wet sock... B) they have to be matched... C) We all have the same size foot.

What a pain...I have like 3 random revolving sock baskets...then you consolidate them all into one once everyone has fished as many pairs out and nothing else matches. I keep thinking we need to throw them all out. Then go and buy each person a different color sock!

  5. I still can't understand how they can be so brilliant, and the height of their imagination is to create a virus. These people should be able to write their own ticket in programming. This has bothered me for at least 10 years. As much as I can figure, they have no financial gain?

Like you said they are terrorist...I guess the pay off is bragging about the chaos they create? There really must be something sociopathic like the uni bomber! =@ =@

If we could figure out who it was, and there must be ways...I think they should be taken out.

  6. God will be with your daughter and family now as he was the day Harley came into your family. That special rhythm we have with a pet is hard to describe, and we are never sure if we will have another opportunity to have that exact love again.

As a parent it is even harder to help you children through this, because you can't make it better. You can just be there hurting and understanding..

We lost a dear kitty five years ago; he was hit by a car. Like Harley, someone had dumped him. He did not even eat solid food. We bottle fed him, and when he snuggled he would suck on your neck, earlobe, or hair as he slept with you. He was dumb as rocks, but he was more loyal and loved better than any smart cat we owned. He used to chew on boxes, he got into my storage closet where the holiday decorations for the year were kept -tore them up. At the time I was mad... even tore up the boxes in the boxes. Now each holiday; Easter, Christmas, Halloween it is a reminder of him. When I go to get the decorations out and see all the sweet little kitty teeth punctures and rips in the boxes, I remember him and all the crazy things he did that made us love him.

I am so sorry. God just needed Harley back again. Remember he is God's Kitty after all.

  7. That's funny... the article said the law is called: bring-your-gun-to-work law....? Just like bring your son/daughter to work day... strikes me as funny.  Just show'n my little gun what daddy does at work all day?

I think with the deep pockets Disney has, they have to cover everything. Any lack of thoroughness on their part they will be looking at a law suit, just as perhaps this employee is doing to them now. I wonder if he did not tip them off he had a gun to see what they would do? I would think Disney has an extensive employee handbook that as an employee you are fully aware of. My brother-in-law worked for ABC when they were purchased by Disney. He and all ABC personnel went through the Disney culture training. He said it was impressive, he got a lot out of it.

I believe people can carry concealed weapons if they have a permit...after all the criminals do without a permit, but I have to admit there are places it seems counter intuitive. College campuses, or schools of any kind...airports past security, and with the concentration of people at Disney I can see why they take it seriously. Plus they do have an amazing fireworks display nightly, they have a lot of explosives on property, that is for sure.

Every so often you hear of some disgruntled employee going out to the parking lot and coming back with a gun and shooting the people they feel they have been slighted by. It is unfortunate when people feel it is easier to solve disputes or problems with violence, instead of discussions. This guy would have been better off challenging the rule with discussion or in a court room before bringing the gun in his trunk vs. now trying to get his job back after he was fired! Maybe he shouldn’t have a gun if his decision making skills are so poor?

  8. I agree. We even have some idiots in our subdivision that toss their empty beer bottles, as they enter the subdivision. Take your trash and put it in your trash can. If you are going to drink it be a man/woman and own it...don't try and hid it from who ever is at your house!

I would love to have a sheriff waiting to see them litter... a little DUI....love note.

  9. I read in a journel years ago that there were now about 74% more trees in the US than when the pilgrims landed. That is difficult to believe but they stated it was due to all the tree farms that we have planted for our lumber companies. If that is true and the fact that trees help cool the environment, then we should be actually cooling the environment. I think that man can make some significant impacts to the environment but to say we are actually pushing the Earth's temp up, I just do not believe we are capable of that without something like the nuclear winter effect. JMO

And there was a time that the Vikings lived and farmed in Greenland.... it was not all ice. If we realize how short a time we are actually on this plannet.... 100 years plus or minus.

My Great Aunt just turned 101 this June. She was hired as a nurse in Phoenix ,AZ. She was paid well enough she was able to afford a ticket to go back to the family farm in Nebraska to visit. Once she arrived she endured the dark red whirls of the dust bowl, as well as the plague of grasshoppers that devoured what was left of their crops. That we shall be so lucky to see change in our life. We will see it if we live long enough.

  10.

9/11 study: Air traffic affects climate

Great. :nea: Contrails cause cooling...ugh! Now when they realize we are supposed to cool for a few decades the "climate change...not... Global Warming"...people will now say we must stop air traffic. Air travel will be the new thing they will tax due to "global cooling." What will be the opposite of a carbon credit?

I believe the planet will be hotter, then cooler, then hotter, and average in between some of these times. There are many factors that influence each other on our planet, and in our relationship with the sun and moon etc. Until they can predict our local weather for more than a week – and actually get it correct, I am not sure I will buy into 10 to 20 year predictions.

So far in my lifetime I have heard a lot of disturbing predictions that gave way to the next dire prediction without happening. :glare:

I think before we as in human kind were on ths earth, much worse emissions were generated by volcanoes and most IMPORTANTLY dinosaur farts they had to be big so, blame it on them..

You know my kids and I blame it on cow farts....but I like the dino fart theory better!!!! Haa haa haah

  11. And do you people also believe that we are not to blame for the smog in Atlanta or any other large city? And what about the over-fishing and polluting of the oceans? How about the extinction of many species? Are these also naturally occuring process that we just need to ignore cause it will fix itself, that mankind really isn't to blame for the state of the planet.

Here is a quote that stuck with me. I will cut and paste it vs. try to paraphrse it...

Scientists and economists can agree with Buddhist monks and Christian activists that ruthless destruction of natural habitats is evil and careful preservation of birds and butterflies is good. The worldwide community of environmentalists—most of whom are not scientists—holds the moral high ground, and is guiding human societies toward a hopeful future.

Unfortunately, some members of the environmental movement have also adopted as an article of faith the belief that global warming is the greatest threat to the ecology of our planet. That is one reason why the arguments about global warming have become bitter and passionate. Much of the public has come to believe that anyone who is skeptical about the dangers of global warming is an enemy of the environment. The skeptics now have the difficult task of convincing the public that the opposite is true. Many of the skeptics are passionate environmentalists. They are horrified to see the obsession with global warming distracting public attention from what they see as more serious and more immediate dangers to the planet

  12. Let's try an experiment, stop cleaning your house and let nature take it's course, but fear not cause it is not your fault you live in filth. Yes I belive in global warming, but I also believe in the overall stupidity and selfish nature of the human race.

In other words, we are gonna kill ourselves one way or another, I prefer slow roasted, it tastes better.

Do you have a link to this news article, I'd love to read it.

  13. Mankind's ego is amazing.

It is the ego thing... we don’t want to believe we can not control our surroundings, but there are many that are using this to economic gain. I think they are using inaccurate information creating climate data from junk to present their case? :nea:

I think we all truly want our planet to be healthy, and to be good stewards to what we have. :p This sets us up to “fear” what the “experts” say. We are being manipulated by politics.

In a July 5th 1989 article “A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000. Last I heard the ocean level was right where it was 20 years ago? :pardon:

I have a hard time getting excited about these gloom predictions.

  14. Where did you get the Sun Dried Tomato Vinagrette? I used to get this and then the store stopped selling it. Could you tell me where you got it, please????

Is that the new Kraft dressing? I just bought two. I am on the Kraft food & family email, they send ideas and coupons and such… they had a pasta salad using this dressing...haven't made it yet.

  15. OK, this is not a jewelry post. I just want to get to know everybody... :D

A funny story: A young girl was making fun of her brother's hairy butt. She ragged and ragged him. I watched for a few minutes, then I thought of the ultimate get back. I told her that when she's a teenager her butt will be hairy too. That's why women have to shave all the time....hee hee...she had a shocked :o look on her face, and her brother confirmed it. A few minutes later she was talking to a friend of hers on the phone, telling the story of what to look forward to. Then she said "No wonder my mom has so much hair in her tub". I almost fell out of the chair laughing....

You’re mean! .... But (butt) she had it coming

  16. Addressing the Washington Policymakers in Seattle, WA, Dr. Don Easterbrook said that shifting of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) from its warm mode to its cool mode virtually assures global cooling for the next 25-30 years and means that the global warming of the past 30 years is over. The announcement by NASA that the (PDO) had shifted from its warm mode to its cool mode is right on schedule as predicted by past climate and PDO changes (Easterbrook, 2001, 2006, 2007) and is not an oddity superimposed upon and masking the predicted severe warming by the IPCC. This has significant implications for the future and indicates that the IPCC climate models were wrong in their prediction of global temperatures soaring 1F per decade for the rest of the century.

So do you think there is really global warming? Why or why not?

  17. Mornin' everybody. Another fine Saturday here at AT&T, I'd rather be sleepin'...

...well, atleast my diet is goin' good. Day 4 and I've lost 9 pounds, not too shabby...

    Wow! Great job!

  18. Yeah, it gives "da Island sound mon" :p

    Boy was I off....

It is a melodious percussive steel musical instrument created in Switzerland. It uses some of the same physical principles as a steel drum.

The Hang was developed in 2000 in Berne, Switzerland. There are only two people who make Hanghang (plural form of Hang), the inventors Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer. They have a little workshop in Berne where every Hang in existence was created.

In 2006 the Hang Makers stopped shipping instruments directly and halted sales through retailers. To obtain a Hang, prospective customers must now send a letter to request an instrument. Worldwide offers for used Hanghang are rare, and prices in Internet auctions have been exceptionally high due to an increased demand since 2006 and a reduction in supply due to changes in the manufacture and distribution of Hanghang.

Guess these will not be the thing to give Christmas of 08! ;)

    Very cool though.
