  1. omg, What memories. My mom had my haircut into a pixie and I loved it until I got home and my dad asked my mom where I was and who was this little boy. :o  :( . Hurt my feelings so bad I cried for hours.

My aunt convinced my mom to cut my hair because it was so thick and it got tangles...hair conditioner was not common then?...They cut it in a Pixie!

I was so embarrassed because I looked like a boy- my face just did not look like a girl. A pixie was a horrible cut, or I had someone who couldn't cut hair...I don't know! I wore my windbreaker everyday with the hood on my head in kindergarten to cover my lack of hair. That was a baaaaddd hair style. I still resent my mom and aunt for that!

I have NEVER had hair shorter than my shoulders since that cut...because of that cut.

  2. This leaves me with another song association.....

    Eve 6 - Heart In A Blender

    I would swallow my pride,

I would choke on the rhines,

But the lack there of would leave me empty inside.

Swallow my doubt turn it inside out,

Find nothin but faith in nothing.

Wanna put my tender heart in a blender,

Watch it spin round to a beautiful oblivion,

Rondezvous then I'm through with you.

I alone am the one you don't know you need to keep fit your ego.

Make me blind when you eyes closed, sink when you get close

Tie me to the bed post.

    Great song!

  3. I skipped the good parts about bringing home a disease to my mom and then yelling at her because 'she' gave it to him by handling dirty money at the bank. After the divorce, his friend told my mom all about the truth behind his ailment. CHEATING! Of course.

I think this is the scarry part. If someone cheats on you....the person they are cheating with could have all sorts of diseases...yuck

  4. The whole no playground idea is asinine. Outdoor free play is enhances the educational process. I have no problems with PTAs improving a basic playground, but a basic playground should always be part of the construction bid.

Again jjsmom, hairazor, Mommaof 3, Covered, Lady Raider all said in Paulding the PTA has the burden of providing it. Does that seem the best way? Just because "that is the way it's always been done" doesn't make it the best way?

I agree with 12ward... a basic playground should be in the construction bid.

  5. I understand where you are coming from, I agree completely with you, and I remember it being the school grounds being open and not fenced up when I was in school.

    BUT

The school are unable to leave things open to the public after hours nowadays because Some people don't take care of things that belong to everyone. Schools are being broke into and vandalized even with fences and such around them. I have not doubt that the playground equipment would not last long at all if it were not protected.

It is truly a shame to what our society has come to anymore. All due to a few bad apples in the bunch.

You know I see that, but I also know when people are using facilities and driving in and out, it is not so easy to vandalize... more eyes watching.

Also when kids use the facilities and have a connection to their school... they take more pride in it and will put peer pressure on the bad ones to shape up. Or maybe we will catch the bad ones and get them help or lock them up?

And as I said the schools in other states purposely had a rec center usually on the other side of the campus from the school buildings, so there were rec center employees on campus... One of the schools was in an area with military homes, lots of apartments, and modest homes with families just starting out... it kept kids from doing bad things, gave them positive things to be involved in. Got rid of energy after a day of sitting still in class, and it kept crime down.

  6. Here is a link to a BRAND new school opening this fall in Cobb.... http://pickettsmill.typepad.com/

If you take a look at the pic, it looks like a small playground to me. Appears to be a Paulding county thing.

I just know not too long after we moved here, on a school break, I took my kids and some neighbor kids to the rec center to play basket ball at Taylor farms. There was a tournament going on... I drove to several other parks and schools, and could not find one basketball court where they could shoot some hoops. I was trying to get the kids active and out of the house. To me it made no sense that the school playgrounds were locked up tight, because it really is a community resource.

Not too long after that statistics came out that GA children were some of the most obese... it make perfect sense to me... Nowhere to play and be active, and no sidewalks or paths to get to a place to be active. Just like our great silver comet trail that if we tried to bike to it to use it, we would probably die on the roads getting there. Whey aren't there roads with bike lanes to connect the community to the trail? <_<

And again if it is a Paulding thing to not fund playgrounds....Just because "We have always done it this way" that does not make it the best way? We will need to get more involved in the process.

  7. http://news.cnet.com/National-ID-cards-on-..._3-5573414.html

The article states "Standardized, electronically readable driver's licenses

The U.S. State Department soon will begin issuing passports with radio frequency identification, or RFID, chips embedded in them, and Virginia may become the first state to glue RFID tags into all its driver's licenses."

    ________________________________________________________________________________

    _____________________________________________________________________

The fear is if our drivers licenses are standardized it is a slippery slope to national ID cards.

It would seem most of us would enjoy only having to keep up with one form of ID...our drivers license. And a person without a drivers license can get what looks like a drivers license, but it is an ID card. (And, and, and, we would all have a picture ID when we go to vote!) :yahoo: :clapping: :yahoo: :yahoo:

If by doing this we would not have a social security number floating around for criminals to steal my identity and open lines of credit under my name... I might think it a better solution. But maybe it would make it easier for criminals and more of a nightmare if you lost your drivers license?

Too many unknowns to make an informed decision. :o :o

  8. It shows the important of fitness in this state. One of the reasons our children’s obesity rate is growing. :angry2: :angry2:

I have lived in other states where not only were the schools equipped with playgrounds, but they were not locked up after school, or on weekends... the community could use it when school was not in session. This included basketball courts, baseball fields, racquetball courts, four square, and hop scotch. As kids we would ride our bikes to the schools on the weekends and play...the school fields were a great place to fly kites. Of course the schools had sidewalks from the subdivisions so you could walk, roller skate, or ride your bike safely.

Many schools had a recreation department building on the campus. They opened after school and on weekends. They checked out balls, board games, set up tournaments. It was sort of like a library for outdoor activity. My son and the sitter would stay every day after school for several hours because all the kids were there playing and having fun … beats watching TV sitting on a couch. This did not take away from public parks, those were also available…but the friends you knew were at the school playing.

Our schools should be about learning and starting good habits. Data shows people who grow up active stay active. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

I hate to say it, but the saying “It’s always been done that way" does not make it the best way to do it. :nea: :nea: Perhaps now with a new focus from the community on the way things have been done the past 8 years, there will be some creative changes? As a community we will suggest those changes!!?? :pardon: :pardon:

  9. The church is not the building-it's the body of Christ. It's the actual people that make the 'church'-not the building. I think that's the point that was trying to be made. This is bigger than one 'church' it's all of the church as a body coming together to do what God wants us to do. It's 'being the church'.

I guess I said it wrong...I like how you said it. :p

  10. That actually sounds pretty cool.

Did anyone else do that math?

$40,000 = cost to get up and running

5,000 = People who took the plunge

    $ 35 = 15 Minutes

    $175,000 :o

*runs to start this business*

Boy am I dumb... I was thinking $40,000 just to start would take a lot to recoup...did not think to do the math!

So where in Paulding will you have your shop?

I think I would prefer the fish over a person… Once might be fun…something to talk about?!

  11. I don't go to church, I don't need someone to interprate the written word and spin it to current events. I think for myself and take the Bible for what it is how it is written.

This is bigger than church. It is about making our community better...loving one another by enriching our community. Kindness.

  12. My hope and prayer is that the expression of Christ does not end when the projects are finished. Folks don't need to wait til there is an event to love someone by serving them.

This week on p.com I read about three times that people in need were helped out by strangers...they were praising their heroes on this public forum....So I know this community does not wait for a specific weekend!  :clapping: :clapping:

  13. I am a stickler for manners as Kat will GLADLY inform you. Speaking proper english is another one. Today I inadvertantly corrected my niece and she was greatful for it. All the kids in the family have been given the correct tools in which to live a proper life. It is up to them to continue using it.

I am also a stickler for holding your eating utensils correctly. It means alot when Kat brings home a boy who can hold his knife and fork properly. If they don't she will be most happy to show them and make them use it the correct way!!!

    Holding utensils and cutting correctly.

This sounds so snotty, but I told my son several years ago when he would not get his elbows off the table after years of training, that some day he would be eating at a girlfriends house and her parents would throw him out for poor table manners… and that I would support them doing so. I don't know if that really helped, but around age 15 it all finally came together. Interestingly though I caught him in the mornings hunched over his cereal... face too close to the bowl. We never eat breakfast together, and he was lazy in the morning... That has been changed! If you do not live it, you will not have the habit.

I think we are a more casual society, and sometimes that is perfect, but since too many do not live it, they do not have good habits.

  14. Our pastor said if you did not have a project to work on, help out a neighbor, or do something to help someone in need Sunday morning. Do something to show the love of Christ... help someone out you don't even know!

Then join in the celebration Sunday night. 7:30 PM at Sam’s Club parking lot… bring your chairs! :yahoo:

  15. My family and I will be helping at Sara Babb Park to put in a Professional Mountain Bike Trail that the community can enjoy. There will be over 100 volunteers working to accomplish this. My kids thought this would be great for the community and wanted to help.

I can't wait for Sunday night to hear about all the ways the community was the hands and feet of Christ. Bring a chair and join the community. There will be music, and singing with a choir of people from all the churches involved with EngageAtlanta. It should be awesome.

My husband was helping coordinate some things with other churches, he sent out an e-mail, and our next door neighbor sent it back... she was the contact person for her church...it just shows how interconnected we all are!

You can check out the web site at http://engageatlanta.wordpress.com/

  16. I can see the nuetering didnt slow him down one bit -

I just got it - you're right he had a good reason then............two of them.

I knew it...he is mad at you...you did slight him! 8)

It is best for him though. He just needs you around more. Smart dogs will get into (over) things when they are bored. He sure does look apologetic though. ^_^

  17. Sorry, after watching lowriders avatar (it was only for 10 minutes!) I forgot what this thread was all about.

    Thread? What thread? :p

Yeah, my 17 year old son sort of had that reaction last night over my shoulder when I was reading p.com and he came to check his face book. I scrolled down, he said wait...go back...look at the woman sneezing.

Back to thread...I wish someone wanted the job. It would be a nasty race if the past few years are any indication of who Richardson has become.
