  1. :o :shok:    8P

We are talking about my mom here. Full blooded German born and raised. She will not just drop it. She has the magnet on the refridgerator that says "You can always tell a German, you just can't tell them much" for a reason. I'll have to sit down with her and explain yet again why we are doing what we are doing. I keep telling her but she forgets. Maybe it's cause the TV's up too loud, :unknw: and she dosen't hear me. Then again it may be that case of Germaticus Selectivus Auditory Reception GSAR for short ;)

Did she go through the war? My brother's dear MIL went through the war, and she was so impressed that her mother was always able to get food for the family...to her, giving food, feeding people, is what love is.

She brings glorious bags of groceries...yummy fresh stuff…which I love... but as she gives it to me she says “here, put these in her refrigerator” (my SIL’s refrigerator) “she does not feed these kids right! Look, they are so skinny, haven't been cooked a decent meal, she puts them to bed too late, doesn't get them to drink enough water....and the list continues.” If my Sister in Law hears it---- the screaming in German starts...and everyone else quickly leaves!!

I get it. Both of you are in a no win situation.

We all tell half truths to my brother’s MIL…and even the kids are in on it- which is sort of bad….but they know to tell her about the yummy fruit they ate for lunch, the nice broccoli they had for dinner…they know all her buttons and they are only 6 and 7!

Good luck! It must be a German thing!!!! :drinks:

  2. We have a one and one-half box a week Icee monkey on our back here. And if the grandkids or cousin's grandkids stop in it can easily jump to two and one-half a week.

I also buy Sam's dog food and steaks.

I wish Sam Walton was still around. I don't think he would allow this kind of crap.

I must be missing a trick…I have never tried their icee…. Next time! :p

By the way I was at Sam’s today and I think the guy at the front door checking the tickets was new… he was slow and anal about looking at every item…Lets see yeah, I bought 18 items… he counted them ALL.

However, twice (that I know of) they double charged me for milk and did not catch it at the door!… both times I got in the car, glanced at the receipt and noticed! I have been a member since they opened, so two errors in many years, but if your going to unconvince me, catch the error in your favor too!

  3. I wish we had both so that they would have to compete.

In 1999 or 2000 we had been told by a Costco manger that Costco was looking at land in Paulding. This was prior to Sam’s buying land. Costco backed out because there are not enough small businesses that would purchase supplies from them. Paulding has too much residential. Costco has a certain business model…Paulding at this time does not fit that model! :( So sad for me!

  4. Do not pay for your renewal of membership early. It is not like a magazine subscription that they add 12 months to the three you have left! You will loose those three months and have to renew 12 months from the time of your last renewal! Inside info from an associate who worked at Sam’s

The employees are a bit pushy at the Sam’s in Hiram.

I love Costco, used to go for all my groceries, but with gas prices and a Sam’s so close I use Sam’s now too. When Sam’s pisses me off too much (like your experience today- I would guess?) I fire them for a while and go back to Costco.

Costco also needs to see you wave your card at them. They look at your receipt as you leave, but it is no where near as anal as Sam’s! I WISH we had a Costco in Hiram instead of Sam’s.

  5. Milk is of the :diablo: . Ok, maybe not quite but I do not believe in drinking it. My son, who has always been super healthy, has never drank it either. There are so many reasons why. But, think about this. Dr. Denmark asked me once,"what animal gives their babies ANOTHER animals milk? None. We're the only ones dumb enough to do it."

I let my kids have milk, we do have yogurt, cheese, and the biggest sin... ice cream, but I don’t push it. I do not think it is good for us. Many veggies (such a broccoli) are better sources of calcium.

Cow’s milk takes a newborn calf from 70 pounds to 500 pounds in less than eight months. :o 400 pounds in eight months! Humans do not need these saturated calories. Even though we take the fat from 50% to 4% milk is VERY high in calories, without a lot of other vitamins or minerals … One of the reason kids get too fat, too heavy, too early.

No other animal drinks milk after it is weaned.

But it might just be better to tell you dear MIL that you will “think about what she has told you.” You do not have to change things….but maybe she will drop it?

  6. They start with a binder, paper, and some pencils. There is plenty left from last year.

The teachers will give you the lists, but over the years I have learned some things they do not use until the middle or end of year, and sometimes it ends up the teacher changes their mind or runs out of time and certain items never get used. I have middle and High school kids, so it is different than elementary.

I may fill in a few t-shirts if the ones from spring have too many stains, but why buy pants or new clothes until they grow or the old ones wear out? <_<

It bothers me we let marketing and advertising convince us to load up our credit cards on things we do not need! :nea:

  7. We did not let our son have a cell phone until he had earned his drivers license…basically for safety if the car broke down.

When he was given the phone I told him I do not want to have overages on our plan. He called the cell phone company and had the texting turned off, because he knew all the girls and a few of his guy friends are addicted to texting, and they would bombard him with it and it might bump up our bill. It also kept him from the temptation of texting in school. After a year and a half we have had no problems with the phone.

My son works about 52 hours a week, has a girlfriend, is involved in many church activities, as well as all the regular 17 year old activities. He could not keep life balanced if he could not put his phone down! Once school starts he will work less, but school will take up those hours.

Life needs balance, and if we do not teach that to our kids, how will they function as adults?

You can call the phone company and turn off the texting…she would still have a phone for emergencies, and making phone calls since you have no house phone.

It would help her understand society is going to require more of her. If she has not learned to listen to you as you help her to have a little self discipline, maybe it is time to go to the next step.I'm a hard a$$ mom, but like you I have very few problems with my kids. My biggest problem is my husband does not like the chin lenght hair my kids wear their hair!

Why wait until this does become a problem to her? Help her now! :)

  8. I can't sleep with noise. I can fall asleep, but after 2 or 3 hours sleep, if I hear noise I can not stay asleep. DH is a LOUD snorer, but has sleep apnea, so now he has that stupid machine that sound like Darth Vader, or whines like a 737 aircraft with it's APU on...depending on how he is positioned in bed. I can't sleep with it. If I do "make it through the night” I have a massive headache the whole next day.

I sleep in another room now. I had to take the battery powered clock off the wall because it made a ticking sound. I can not stand hotels that have the box in the window for air conditioning that hums throughout the night, again by the morning I have a massive headach, and have slept little...even with ear plugs!

  9. "It's important to recall this is a case not just about one Mexican national on death row in Texas," one of his lawyers, Sandra Babcock, said after watching him die. "It's also about ordinary Americans who count on the protection of the consulate when they travel abroad to strange lands. It's about the reputation of the United States as a nation that adheres to the rule of law."

Give me a break…the cops in Mexico are so corrupt, you are lucky when they pull you over, that they only take all your money. You can be put in jail, and you are guilty until proven innocent. You may never get a trial, even if you did not do anything. Many Americans who went to Mexico to vacation have disappeared, and are believed dead. The police seem to be in on it along with the drug cartels…it is a mess. There is a reason Mexican citizens want to work and live in the U.S.A.

But over all, this whole story is just sad. :(

Maybe if more went to death row, then were put to death in an expedient manor… this horrible gang rape, murder, violence and terror in communities would stop. Ridiculous that it took 15 years. Just as the Brian Nichols thing is a joke!

  10. Frog and Toad were my younger son's favorite...he still has a dry sense of humor. Little Bear was also good. I can't remember if it is the same author, but similar story style, few pictures, all in same color ink.

Like your daughter, if he showed an interest I pursued it, because he seldom showed an interest. I bought all the stories I could find with Frog and Toad and Little Bear.

  11. It's outrageous.I don't think a night goes by without my husband arresting a copper thief <_< He even arrested one trying to steal it from a church's a/c unit :o

Does he think there is a solution? Make laws harsher, cut off a hand for stealing? Brand their forehead with an L for Loser?

    It sucks for the victims!

  12. I would think it might be important for this to be straightened out, since your son has to walk past her house many times a week? I would be inclined to ask the police to accompany me to her house.

I do not think I would have my son there, but I would make him available if the police wanted to speak with him.

Perhaps, like you, she had something stolen today also. Did you make a report to the police about the stolen bicycles? Get the police to take a report of your stolen bicycles, and speak with this lady? Just a thought...remember how upset/angry you were with the theft...maybe she had the same problem and took it out on your son feeling he was the thief? I'm not saying she was correct yelling the words she did...but it is worth clearing this up one way or another.

  13. Does that important grammar include things like the misplaced apostrophe in the thread title? :p

My whole mind is misplaced when it comes to writing...I wish I were a great writer, but alas I am not! You are correct the Nazi does not own the can - as I placed the apostrophe.

Usually I write like I speak. Mostly in run on sentences. Spell check does not help with that, and per the thread, spelling does not limit our understanding of the written word. So I'm in REAL trouble!

I would not know how to edit it anyway!...Just like I can not get a picture to load on my avatar setting...all in good time I am sure?

  14. My sons saw this story this morning.

The 13 year old asked why he would be arrested for dialing 911. I said "well, there was more to it than that, but if you need the police and it is not and emergency- no one is in danger or severely injured- you dial the regular number. You don't call because your sandwich is missing sauce! For instance, if you hit a deer, are not hurt, your car still works, and you just need to report it, don't dial 911."

My 17 year old said "Well, how do you know that number?" I got a magnet off the fridge that had the numbers... He pulled out his cell phone and said "Well I better put those numbers in my phone! Please read them to me?" I hope he never needs to use them, but it was a good opportunity to make sure both kids knew not to clog up our emergency lines.

  15. Years ago we found an all black female shepherd/lab mix at a shelter. She was 6 to 9 months old when we got her, but I bet our shelters here have a lot of spring puppies that need homes right now!

She did not dig, was wonderful with kids, and at age 8 or 9 became a momma to a stray kitten that was dumped in our neighborhood. (Our cat still thinks he is a dog, and chases dogs off our property…pretty funny.) I think she had more Labrador in her, that cancelled out the German Shepard markings, even though she had the bushy tail, upright ears, and longer coat of the Shepard. It made her smart-easy to train, loyal, loving, and sweet. She was the best playmate with my two boys and their friends…I think the fact she was female, and had the mother instinct made her a great family dog. I understand black dogs are the last adopted, so there are probably a lot like her available to adopt!

She passed a few years ago, not before we found yet another dumped dog in our neighborhood that we took in. But my son would love to find another dog just like her. She was about 45 pound, a nice size... the one we have now is really a heinz 57, very fun and cute, only 25 or 30 pound...but he LOVES to DIG. I think it is partly because he is a boy, but he also has Australian Shepherd in him and he is more a hearding dog. He digs out of our yard, and digs into the neighbors yard to play with their boxer! He digs out to find people or other pets to play with... I think that is why someone dumped him! But we do love him. If I liived by a busy street I would really worry though. My Lab/Shepard mix I never worried about her wandering or digging, and if the kids left the gate open, she would just sit in the front yard and watch for us to come home.

  16. I was a HUGE Stephen King fan as a teen. But that novel, along with "It," made we walk away from his work.

    YUCK!

    Hijack

When I was pregnant I asked my little brother (10 years younger) to be on the look out for good boy names. We wanted Kylie for a girl but were stuck for a boy’s name. My brother was in High School, I figured he heard more names than I did. He brought back a few we liked, but the best one was Gage.

Had the baby, named him Gage... a few people questioned where I came up with Gage? I told them my brother----then the family friend who introduced my brother to Steven King novels, asked me if he got it from Pet Semetary? I kept forgetting to ask him. Finally I remembered to ask...my brother got this sideways grin on his face, and said, "Yes, it was from Pet Semetary, but the little boy was so cute before he was buried."

I finally read the book when my son was 2 1/2... I usually don't read thriller books like that. Of course, then when my son got older, he read the book. Stephen King is a great author, and the book does present many levels of ethical and morel questions in it. Makes you go hmmmmmm.... no I would not bury my cat, dog, or little boy to bring them back....nor would I clone them....they would not be the same!

  17. They just had a story about this on the noon news.

Recycling places are paying $3/pound for copper right now, which is a strong incentive to thieves.

They are asking those who purchase it to be diligent in documenting who they bought it from, but that's assuming that the recyclers will be honest as well.

I keep wondering why they have not caught this type of thief? There can’t be that many places they can unload these ill gotten goods? I would think the police would be best :ninja: friends with the recycling centers to try and stop this. Or maybe it is shipped out of the country like stolen cars? Perhaps they stick it in containers and send it to China or something? It seems there are several stories on the news every week!

It is not the value of the metal they take…it is the cost to the victim to repair what has been destroyed. :nea: As if businesses are not having a hard enough time already?!

I wonder if it is a light slap on the wrist if caught? Something dramatic needs to be done! =@ :angry2:

  18. I read this with absolutely no problem, I think I'm worried! A saw a story on the board at my drs office and I read it several times and a few visits and always noticed that it seemed weird. Well, my daughter was with me one day and said, 'Hey, those words have no vowels'. That was the 'weird ' thing. Maybe I'm just weird!

I have not seen one without vowels… and I am not clever enough to type up a sentence that can be read without vowels! Maybe SouthernScarlett can take care of that for us!? :good:
