  1. Each pet I have lost has a special place in my heart….and has helped shape me!

It always seems a stray animal comes our way as we have lost, or are close to loosing an animal. We rescue that animal, give it a new home, and it rescues our heavy heart… filing it with new love.

I think about how many animals need homes, and I find this woman a nut job.

Like Pet Semetaty …I think we think we want life to always stay the same, never to loose an important family member or pet, but we need to learn how to cope and deal with this aspect of life. Part of our humanity comes from our ability to hurt so deeply, and yet know it will be okay, that we will have joy again. Other wise where would it stop? In Pet Semetary everything that comes back to life is spoiled ... Will these cloned dogs really be special, or just spoiled? :( I have known identical twins…identical DNA… that have totally different personalities. Isn’t this woman missing the personality of the dog?

  2. This is fun...and only for fun.

I had read something similar years ago, but I thought p.com friends might enjoy! :p

Only great minds can read this

  3. Ours was $374!! Our house is NEVER cool! I really need to get someone out to look at our a/c.

It must be running all day! :o We had to replace both our A/C units 2 years ago... our bill came down and the house feels better with the more efficient units. Same thing replacing an old washer with a new front load washer…my water consumption dropped and clothes are cleaner. Hate to spend the money, but over time they reduce monthly expense.

  4. They are looking for food. I have fed them dry dog food for years and never had a problem with them. My daughter that lives next door has a cat that stays out side all of the time. My neighbor has a little dog that stays out all of the time and we have never had a problem. I watch them eat every night . They are like a dog if you feed them they don't have to kill your animals for food. If you think about it you probably live where their home used to be.The animals don't have anywhere to live any more. Man has destroyed all of the woods and food source for them so they have to depend on the same people that destroyed their homes to survive. We need to all feed the animals and birds that we have left if we want our grand kids to be able to enjoy them when we are gone. Not trying to preach to anyone just stating a fact.

I like your idea, and at the same time I think about what happens with my bird feeders. Each year the bird population grows...as well as the squirls but that's another problem. If the coyote population grows would they become pack like and agressive? Or do you think they would just stay shy, eat the food and go back to the forest? If I were a coyote I would love to live next to the lake in the forest! Sound lovely...and honestly the picture in my mind of the coyote near the lake sounds beautiful too! :good:

  5. gaaah!

has anyone noticed an odd amount of Writin' Spiders lately?? they usually mean its getting close to fall, but I've seen FIVE in the last week alone! It's not ANYWHERE close to fall!

I noticed yesterday that the anemone flowers are already close to blooming, which is weird because they usually are the only flower in late fall blooming? My son was with me and I said out loud I wonder if that means we are due for an early fall?

    Hmmmmmmm?

Chelle, I'm glad your post ended with the June Bug! :p I was reading thinking it would be something else baaaadddd!

  6. I don't understand how they didn't realize their child was missing before someone told them... I think they may need to re-take Parenting 101.

Remember Mary and Joseph lost Jesus once too! Left him behind...days later they realized he was not on the trip! I think that is to give us parents Grace; we too might make what would seem an unforgivable oversight! :p

  7. Funny RabbleRouser's quote at the bottom of his screen it talking about armed and unarmed, with the sign telling you may loose a hand!

"Hence it comes that all armed prophets have been victorious, and all unarmed prophets have been destroyed..." - Machiavelli

  8. I can't believe that I am hoping it's mold. He has already been washing, bleaching and disinfecting the boat.

Didn't consider mildew, but I guess that is part of it too.

I will look for that mold killing stuff. Thanks.

Two months ago I found a product you may want to know about for mold. It is by Concrobium, called simply "Mold Control." I purchased it at Home Depot, it is now about $9.50 for a 32 fl. ounce spray bottle.

    Here is a link.

    http://www.concrobium.com/US/pr-06Aug13.html

I had a problem in our pop up camper...mold on the canvas (someone put some water in the sink holding tank... it sat leaking, closed up, for over 10 months!) This product got rid of mold, discoloration and smell, and did not damage the fabric, and got rid of embedded mold in particle board! We used the camper 4 days later...no smell... unlike a bleach product. :p

Plus the big bonus...it prevents mold returning! Here is what is says about the product: It has been shown to be effective at preventing mold growth if applied on all sides of building materials prior to construction. In addition, Concrobium Mold Control is also effective after mold is discovered in a building. Read through the link. Your husband can spray any building materials prior to installation.

I had some cabinets in the basement that had some grey mold...I would wash it away; it would come back....two months later after use of Mold Control...no mold. I should invest in this stock, I have told many people about it. Who does not at one time or another battle mold growth in the South? ;)

Home depot has it near the paint (same aisle where brushed are - it used to be in cleaning products.) Good luck!

I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy our local lakes... there is no better place on a hot day than on the water. Carter's Lake is one of our favorites. It is so beautiful!!!!

  9.

I heard that there are some that use it for their drag cars in our county. There is a market, they are not trying to rip people off.

Hard lesson learned...sort of like putting diesel in a non-diesel car, but at least you do not have to pay to clean out the tank!

Thanks for giving the rest of us a heads up, so we don't also fill up by accident with RACING fuel!

  10. I said something just like that the other day and my husband said, "that's what they want us to think." It's amazing that we now think gas at anthing under $3.90 a gallon is good!!

When it goes to $0.90 a gallon... do you all remember 60 to 90 cents a gallon and we all complained  ... If it comes back to that I will think it is an "Awesome price!!!" :yahoo:

  11. You hit that nail on the freakin' head! That doesn't make the least amount of since to me. Who will use the stadium? Mostly the athletes. At least at the elementary level, all the kids use the playground, every day! I guess they figure that if they limit recess time to 15 minutes, the whole playground idea is fairly humerous.

I did a lot of research on this subject when my child never even got the 15 minutes because he had a lazy, angry pregnant teacher. Sorry, no resentment or anything.. . It has been proven time and again that the brain works in cycles when utilizing long term memory skills. There are acutally a lot of recess advocate websites that show the studies on how important it is for children to have this release during their day. This doesn't mean 7 minutes of walking, 5 minutes of playing and 7 more minutes of walking back to the room. Oh, you got me started! :o

When I was in college, I worked as a Para pro at an elementary school. The kids were given 2- 15 minute recesses and a 40 minute lunch. The whole school went to recesss and lunch at the same time. Once they finished eating they went to the playground and had recess. So basically there was one hour of free play a day. Each teacher and Para pro had "Yard Duty" once a week to cover one of the recesses. If you did not have recess duty, you went to the teacher’s lounge where you could relax, go potty, make copies for class, return phone calls etc.

The bell would ring and the kids went out side to play, a bell rang and they came back in. No big deal. If a child did not do homework or got in trouble they lost recess. So there was a carrot for the teacher to keep kids in line. On top of all this "exercise" they kids also had PE at the end of the day most days.

The brain needs oxygen and activity to function well, children need to move. When we moved to this state, I could not believe the kids had no recess schedule, and they did not play after lunch and PE was every few days if you did not have Computer Lab, Spanish, or Library.

I have an active son, I did not believe him when he was complaining after 3 weeks of school they had not had recess because some kids were bad, and it was cold, and the teacher did not like going outside! But it was true...and two years after that he had an even lazier teacher who refused to go outside unless it was 72 degrees with a cool breeze. All the while the News reports are telling about obesity problems in our state!

So in a way I guess the playground is a moot point... there are no school standards that make sure the kids have enough activity to keep their brains alert, and their bodies healthy. Someone said it earlier in this thread...the whole system needs to be redesigned on a state and local level.... I doubt I will see it in my time, since after 10 years…. no improvements. And yet we have financed an airport while we are short schools, and most of my kids classes are taught in trailers, and the schools we will get will short change the developmental needs of the kids!

  12. Also, for anyone looking to kill off the fleas on a stray before mixing with your current crew, a capsar (sp?) tablet at the vet's office is fairly cheap for what it does. That might be a better place to start. Not sure if it can be used on a puppy, though. Then you could do the Dawn bath as a follow-up. Just a thought.

What is capsar?...rub it on or take it orally?

  13. Someone told me about using Dawn dishwashing detergent for fleas. The stuff that cuts the oil strips the oil off the fleas and makes them die.

I take an old 1/2 gallon plastic ice cream tub fill halfway with water add the Dawn until it gets bubbly, then I get the dog all wet with the hose then drizzle the Dawn water over the dog and rub in and around till it foams, then rinse off. The first few times after I washed with Dawn, after I used a moisturizing dog shampoo... I was worried the dawn would be too drying and make him itchy... but one time we did not use the shampoo after, and he actually smelled better, his coat looked good and he did not itch or scratch like he was dry!

Wish I had known about this years ago…much cheaper than dog shampoo…and so far the results are better! :p

  14. And the military can throw you out for commiting adultery too. How many service members does that stop??

My BIL's sister was cheated on. Her husband cheated with other military woman... he has like 34 years in as an officer and they gave him a dishonorable discharge... he is ruined. He was given opportunity to do the right thing to save his career, but he did not. There was a lot to the story, but the military will pursue it.

  15. Britain's armed forces don't seem to be having any problems. As far as I know, you can be quite open in their military.

As far as women and men showering together, if I was in a combat area and had a chance to take a shower I doubt I would care at all who was in there with me, as long as they don't touch.

    Don't ask, Don't tell, Don't Touch!

  16. Ummmm.....I'm attracted to men and I don't jump out of my skin when I see a hottie. I mean really. Do these straight men think they are going to be assaulted or something? Does this mean men and women shoudn't serve side-by-side? The same thing applies, don't you think?

    Exactly!

I think we can all think of people who are straight and are just socially unacceptable, they exhibit poor behavior and judgment when in social and work settings. Should they be the example of who you are?

Unfortunately some over the top, gay people have caused people to associate that stereotype with all gay people... and be afraid of their motives.

The military must deal with many different problems. Problems you encounter when you employ people. Some people may not be cut out to serve in the military whether it is an honesty issue, poor at following orders, unreliable etc...

If a person is willing to serve our country, as long as they serve honorably...I could care less if they are straight or gay.

  17. Your sex life - sexual orientation- should have nothing to do with your work life...it should be that way even in the military. As long as every one is professional it should not matter.

Sexual harassment of any kind must be dealt with. It is just as wrong for a man to harass a woman as it would be for a man to harass a man, or a woman to harass a woman, or a woman to harass a man.

It bothers me when at work a gay person is being drama, over the top, and swishy just to get attention, just as I have seen girls act sluty and flirty in a professional setting... both are the wrong behavior in a work environment. It is up to the business, corporation, or military to set the culture and work rules and enforce them.
