  1. That is true. Under Obama the laws are not going to be enforced when it comes to illegals. He wants open borders and I think that is clear so it is a moot point.

And they weren't enforced under previous administrations, either, and I recall more than one incidence of The Shrub coming to the defense of illegal immigrants as well as his own push for amnesty...of course that died down somewhat when it became apparent it would be politically harmful to Republicans come election time, because IT'S ALL POLITICAL.

Why do people still try to believe otherwise?

I'm with feelip - the first and best place to start enforcement efforts is with those who employ those who are in the country illegally...until that happens, it's safe to say that nobody is serious about enforcing the law.

It's simply another case of government and ultimately the taxpayers bowing to what corporate America wants and which laws with which it wants to comply and which it doesn't.

  2. I don't think the question to ask is whether you can work a regular job during the session...the responsible thing to do would be find a full time, year- round job that would enable her to pay these debts and leave politics for someone who has their act together.

Sure, she may 'want to serve' (although you'll never convince me that's the real reason any politician runs for office anymore) - but what one wants generally shouldn't take priority over taking responsibility for one's debts or paying one's own way.

I don't see any difference between an unpaid tax bill (regardless of the reason) and people who are refunded money they didn't pay in...either way someone didn't pay - but I see some who generally have nothing good to say about those taking advantage of the tax laws as written by Congress - and not to the tune of $36,000 + either (just as we all do at least to the extent that we're allowed, and some even more than that) are making excuses for her failure to pay taxes owed...surprise.

Since the economy has only worsened since 2006/2007, should we assume she has paid subsequent years' taxes? Voters would be better able to make a decision if she postponed a career in politics until her current legal & fiscal issues were resolved.

  3. Exactly.

The bill was designed to play on the emotions of the naive. It was a political game to tell the constituents that GA is doing something about those illegals, when really it is just a means to get votes to stay in power. It is a game and judging by the responses here, a lot of people are willingly letting the politicians manipulate them.

    Aren't they all anymore?

The fact that former member supports her tells me everything I need to know about Ms. Morrison's "conservative values."

Yet another brilliant voting strategy - eliminate a candidate based on the support of an anonymous person on the internet.

  4. The more lame attacks directed at Heath that I read (and taking into account their source) the more I am leaning toward Heath

Well that's a sure way to ensure we get some quality leadership - bad enough people vote for the D or the R beside the name or the big money candidate based on name recognition only; I sincerely hope those who would cast a vote out of spite or revenge or whatever you call ^^that ^^ are few and far between.

  5. If you don't have a landline phone, your cell number is generally the one you use when you are filling out darn near anything these days that asks for a phone number (which is usually * required ).

In a related section, unsolicited advertising faxes are also

    prohibited.

    ahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaha

tell that to the fools wasting our ink & paper on a daily basis. I would tell them myself but they won't identify themselves because they are fully aware they are violating the law. Sure, they put an opt-out number on the fax. Who knows what they do with your # when you call and enter it into their system? Does that establish the relationship required to bring them into compliance? No thanks.

I'm sure the fine ladies & gentlemen who write these laws will do all they can to protect the (paying) public's privacy and peace of mind...

You should not have to jump through even one hoop to be spared never-ending sales pitches and the like via phone service that YOU pay for.

  6. Is it really that hard to represent the wishes of the majority of your constituents?

Well yeah, when you're already so busy representing the highest bidder and your fellow politicians.

Shouldn't one have the freedom to serve the public as long as he/she wants and is able to?

Sure, now if we could just find someone more interested in serving the public than in enriching themselves.

(The solution is actually to change the way we respond to the way campaigns are run and stop electing the ones with the most money or rewarding these clowns for turning the process into a mud-slinging contest - in other words, elect leaders and hold them accountable and rid ourselves of politicians. One need not be a politician to be a leader)

  7. Given the regularity with which such comments are made on this board I'd like to just go ahead and ask: what does it add to the discussion?

    Right...absolutely nothing.

Some Muslims are terrorists intent on harming Americans. Some are not.

Some born-and-bred American citizens are terrorists intent on harming Americans. Some are not.

Is it that difficult to see others as individuals?

I guess it is, given the amount of time we spend communicating with people whose Identity we often don't know and face we never have to see.

  8. Many insurance companies will not insure a home with an unfenced pool - although they have made exceptions for homes that are not accessible to non-residents or guests. You'd be surprised how many people are annoyed by this rule, especially if their pool is above-ground.

I don't understand why anyone would not teach their children to swim at the earliest age possible if there is a body of water of any kind adjacent to their home...

  9. Pretty similar to that one ^^

Rinse steaks in cold water, blot dry with paper towel. Salt & pepper steaks, then dredge in flour til well absorbed (I pressed mine into the flour on both sides til they were about 1/4" thick), then dip in mixture of beaten egg & cold water (1-2 eggs, beaten with 2-3 tblsp cold water) then into flour again. Fry in hot oil or shortening til browned on both sides, drain on paper towels.

I think I got this off the back of a bag of White Lily flour some years ago...pressing them out flat and coating well first with flour makes them more crispy than regular fried cubed steak.

  10. typical politicians, They are cutting our income tax rate but they say we will be paying more in income taxes because they are are doing away with deductions. I thought the tea party was for lower taxes?

ok. so is this instead of the plan to charge sales tax on services and anything else they can think of?

  11. Seems to me it's only gonna hurt those selling goods and services ("the free market economy") when people buy less in order to pay more tax on the items they purchase & the services they need...they're not gonna do away with the income tax while they're trying to bring in ADDITIONAL MONEY. They'll implement the increase first, create their costly bureaucracy and then maybe reduce the income tax slightly.

How is that not increasing the size and scope of government?

I'm dismayed by the number of otherwise intelligent people who still believe anything any politician says. That's their skill, talking a lot without saying anything they might later be held accountable for in the most convincing manner possible.

Punitive taxes are as anti-free market as it gets, in my opinion, and just another form of the nanny state.
