  1. Or maybe she did plan ahead, and then something happened that was beyond her control. Life is funny that way.

If being a parent requires one to become as reactive and judgemental as some of the responses in this thread would suggest, then that's one bullet I'm glad I managed to dodge.

I really think in a lot of cases folks need a little help but society discourages it and unless the good Samaritan is there to lend a hand, mistakes of this kind are made. I do think that a kinder and gentler society that encourages more cooperation and less stoic independence would probably eliminate many of these kinds of 'lapses.'

This ^^ is an astute observation and it says a great deal about society in general that despite our assertions that we are a polite and compassionate people, the reality is we are so wrapped up in ourselves and our own lives we can't be bothered to take a moment to give someone else a hand when they clearly could use one.

Wonder how it is that we're never quite so busy when presented with the opportunity to be critical or unforgiving?

It's very easy to state what should have been done, but then trying to manage 3 kids and a dog at the vet's office is a tad more stressful and immediate than sitting in front of a computer with time to think about the proper steps to take in such a situation. As Smitty pointed out, the information provided is not detailed enough to give a clear picture of all the events leading to the woman's arrest.

  2. main forum page

then on the right you should see a bar that says slide for PCOM TV. Basically you're sliding the edge of the main forum screen to the left and expanding one on the right. If that makes sense.

    Nope.

I am using Firefox/Mozilla as my browser though. Wonder if that is the glitch?

Oh, maybe what I posted won't work for you, then.

I know you have to go to the main forum page, which I do by clicking the PCOM logo at the top right of the page.

  3. If my memory serves me correct; the car manufacturers went to the hill looking for a handout

    That is correct.

In fact, I believe in the beginning, the Obama administration was leaning toward bankruptcy and GM (and Chrysler, for that matter) wanted no part of it; they wanted the money instead. I'm pretty sure they knew in advance the consequences of taking the money as well, so it's not as though they were forced by the government to take the money and give up ownership of the company.

Selective memory, ain't it convenient, though?

  4. I would think bug spray would be more dangerous to your baby than these, if they are what I think they are... an inch (or less) long and maybe as big around as a pencil lead? I always thought they smelled a little like Creomulsion cough syrup when you crushed them.

I killed one of the big (2-3"), angry looking ones in my bathroom this morning. Don't get them very often, but man they just look wicked. I'd rather see a big ol' spider or even a scorpion any day.

  5. I was sooooo pissed off that they had to wreck a great show by forcing two of the main charters into bed with each other

This is one of the only shows I watch semi-regularly and I happened to catch the end of the finale and this was my thought too. Take away the tension between those two and what's left, you know?

  6. OOOHHH.... How I want to go back to the good ol days...No Lethal injection... Hang that SOB from the flagpole in downtown Dallas..and let him hang there till he dry rots!!!!! Just my opinion... I'm sure it would reduce the crime rate by 100% when the other child molesters, rapist, and other criminals seen that...LYNCH HIM UP!!!!!

If death by electrocution doesn't serve as a deterrent, I'm not sure the threat of being hanged would, either. The majority don't think they'll be caught, much less convicted and possibly executed, so I don't think the potential consequences are enough of a consideration to deter someone who would commit such a brutal crime, especially if that person is also under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time the act is committed.

Our system of criminal punishment was designed by people of a totally different mindset than those it's intended to "rehabilitate" "reform" or "deter" . Short of incarceration for life (or execution), there really is no sure-fire way to prevent this kind of criminal recidivism.

I'd be less ambivalent about capital punishment if it weren't for the lengthy appeals process afforded those on death row and the more stringent criteria applied in such cases-I knew immediately that it was a mistake for the prosecutor to aggressively seek the death penalty in Brian Nichol's case and just look how that turned out.

The thought of this predator ever walking the streets again is extremely disturbing given his apparent lack of remorse and prior history of sexual assault.

  7. We haven't seen any snakes thus far this year. Surprises me b/c we live in a very wooded area.

Our thoughs go out to your daughter's friend and hope she makes a full recovery.

The ones I see don't worry me nearly so much as the ones I don't.

The best way to deal with any kind of undomesticated critter is to watch out for them and know the proper way to react if/when you encounter one.

  8. The only true 24 hour emergency vet I know of is on Hwy 41 in Marietta, a couple intersections north of the Big Chicken & White Water. It can be costly to use them, though, depending on extent of treatment required. I think you'd come out better in the long run to go ahead and see your regular vet tomorrow if they're open, and let them check the cat & treat him, if needed. It's really a matter of paying some now or more later, if you think the cat will need after-hours care.

  9. Everyone wanted the Patriot act, but now everyone is complaining about the abuses related to it.

Everyone wanted 'change' and voted for a Democratic President and now a super majority Democratic Senate and a Democratic Congress, but now everyone is complaining about the abuses related to it.

Anything can be abused. It doesn't mean it was a bad idea.

No, "everyone" didn't want the Patriot Act. Some of us have spoken out against it from the very beginning, thank you very much.

Where does "repeal the Patriot Act" appear on y'alls' agenda? Y'all ought to be getting pretty close to it...right? ...I mean being as how y'all're against it and have all the power and everything. Oh wait a minute! Y'all ain't against the Patriot Act. No. Y'all are just against its abuse. I get it now. The right people haven't been put in charge of it yet. I see

    Who, exactly, is 'y'all'?

Again, there is a significant portion of the population without competent or effective representation in D.C. because 'our agenda' does not fall within the parameters of either of the parties currently holding our government hostage.

Why bother telling everyone how intelligent and thoughtful you are if you're just going to turn around and make dumb posts like this one here? It doesn't appear 'you see' at all.

We haven't had the 'right people' in charge for a very, very long time.

  10. I'm sure it's nothing but pure coincidence but it strikes me as odd that it began to rain, and a lot at that, just after the extensive building and development came to a grinding halt.

I tend to notice stuff like that, though.

I'm sure the two are completely unrelated.

  11. It did not work for me. I left the buggy with my items at the front of the store. Now they will have to pay someone to put up the items. I think it would have been easier for them to open more registers.

I'm sure the store doesn't mind if employees have work to do while they're on the clock.

  12. NBC suddenly cancelled Las Vegas in the middle of a cliffhanger to end the season. I'm still mad. I don't watch much TV so Fox had better leave Terminator alone, or there will be trouble.

Most on the list I've never heard of. I've seen Dollhouse, it has one great quality to it. I have no idea what the plot of the show is.

There's a movie coming out, so Terminator is probably out the door...it's an ok show but not so much so that it can support a tv series and a movie (can you say X-Files?)

Dollhouse is one of the most random non-stories I ever regretted watching (and that's beating out about 99% of all past and current programming).

Grandma was right. TV will rot your brain.

So glad it's finally time to be outdoors again til dark every evening.

  13. If you have been over there and seen the location you would know this is a bad crossing anyway, I will not cross that track, and the train sometimes don't blow there horn at that area. My prayers go out to the person in the car and the family.

It is a dangerous crossing, for sure.

How do these people not hear the train and why do they not think to look for it? I'll never understand......

And I'll never understand why someone invariably feels compelled to make assumptions such as this before anyone even knows the details of an accident...or for that matter, even after the information is available.

Comments of this nature serve no useful purpose that I can see.

  14. If anything, I'm looking to reduce the number of people keeping tabs on my comings and goings and other mundane aspects of my existence.

As one who would be elated to see an end to celebrity 'news' and gossip, as well as human interest stories masquerading as news items, I think it's safe to say I don't plan to follow anyone else via twitter, either.

    I voted no. Emphatically.

  15. handle the calls and paperwork needed to restore a stolen identity

    FYI-

Many insurance companies offer ^^this as an additional coverage available for homeowners insurance for a nominal premium...usually less than $25-$30 per year. I'm not aware of any that include credit-monitoring in the coverage, but the cost is nowhere near $360 or even $120 per year, either.

Please keep in mind that this is not coverage to reimburse for the financial loss itself, but the recovery and restoration of credit that's necessary after the identity theft has occurred, which, as I understand it, is a headache-and-a-half in and of itself.

  16. people standing in line not acknowledging their cashier yakking on the dang phone

Or conversely, the cashier who never pauses during a phone conversation to even look at the customer, much less speak. It's inconsiderate when a customer does it, it's inexcusable when the cashier does.

Some days everything pi$$es me off; but there are others that even stuff that probably should, doesn't.

I guess if I had to pick one thing that never ceases to irk me it's those who are thoughtless or outright oblivious.

Oh and the slow drivers in the left lane someone mentioned earlier. That probably gets me riled up faster than most anything.
