The punishment should fit the crime.
Was anyone physically harmed?
Sheesh. What a question.

I wondered where that happened. All I had heard was "suburbs of Atlanta".
I had, and still have, strong ties to both counties.
Is it enough or too much? Hard to say. Does look like they are being used as examples. And that's wrong, regardless of how despicable what they did was.
Makes me ashamed to be from that area.
If the consequences are not sufficient to deter others, what is the point?

Sorry to hear this. We stayed at their home after school when her children and my sister and I were in elementary school at Hiram back in the good ol' days. Condolences to Vince, Connie & Alan and their families.

M.C. Joiner was a wonderful person with class and character and will be missed.
Rest in peace Mr. Joiner.

How is implying someone has feminine traits 'misogynistic'?
A misogynist is a person who dislikes, despises, or is strongly prejudiced against women.
Not only that, he simply chose to share a determination made by someone else, not his own conclusion.
I don't think Trump is feminine, I think he's a disgusting pig. He's going to make America great again and create all these wonderful jobs, why not start by bringing back the ones he sent overseas, and have his daughter do the same? Those tax dollars they don't pay over here would go a long damn way toward making America great again. Wonder how many undocumented workers he has employed or currently employs? How many of his fellow billionaire CEOs will he have bring their jobs and tax dollars back to America?
He is not a good businessman, he is a creepy narcissist who, after almost losing everything that was given to him, charmed, cheated, bankrupted and conned his way back to his elite status, or so he says, while robbing the country of tax revenue and creating jobs in Bangladesh, China and Mexico. They are ok when it works to his benefit, but let's not let them come into this country.
And since he won't release his tax returns, nobody knows where he gets his money, how much he even has and whether he might have some interests of his own that jeopardize our national security. Plus he is a complete whack-a-doodle and has blatantly lied or back tracked on dang near everything and every position he has stated so far.
And Newt Gingrich. Yuck. Birds of a feather...
Hillary is pretty bad, and Trump is equally as bad or worse.

Charles was a nice guy and I sure was sorry to hear of his death. My thoughts are with the family.

Haven't been around in quite a while but got to reading this thread. Over the years debating many of you about politics, it was always easy to distinguish the GOP partisan hacks and those who actually used some common sense to form their own opinions. This thread really shows that nothing has changed. Props to those folks, good Republicans, who recognize that the GOP nominee is not fit for office. It's okay to hate Hillary and not vote for her but it's admirable that some of you aren't going to vote Trump just because he has an R beside his name. Hopefully y'all are finding some solace in Gary Johnson's candidacy.
I wish I could like this post a few more times.
Especially the part about there being another choice altogether, one that isn't a fraud or a liar or philanderer or bigot or most importantly, a REPUBLICAN OR A DEMOCRAT.
Sheesh.

Yeah Mitch McConnell apparently is relying on the same "institutions" of government to keep Trump in line. My question is this: if they can keep Trump in line, how was Obama able to 'fundamentally change America' singlehandedly?
And why would it not similarly restrain Hillary Clinton? Or for that matter, Bernie Sanders? According to this logic, the village idiot would be a suitable candidate because even if he won, he could do no real harm.
Either the system imposes limits on presidential power or it does not. You cannot have it both ways.

I am sorry to hear this, it has not been very long ago that I saw Mr. Carter. He was a nice man, and very humble. His wife is also a sweetheart. Condolences to the family.

Oh come on, it would be funny to see what kind of laws a bunch of doped up politicians could think up. A lot better than the one's they do now.. lol...
I figured that was the problem already.

Hope I'm not relapsing.
I've had a sore throat since yesterday evening and I'm terribly head achy.
I sneezed all night last night, which is how it started to begin with and I haven't completely recovered yet from what I had last week.
The thought of feeling that bad again is almost more than I can stand.
Ugh.
Lysol. And a lot of it...
Hope you both feel better soon.

Yeah there is a really ugly upper respiratory thing that is extremely catchy going around, too. Working on my 2nd week of it, and my BIL was on his way to pneumonia after coming down with it. I haven't been this sick in a long long time.

I think they are doing maintenance at the crossings. The one on Coot's Lake Rd is a rough, bumpy mess right now...

I was sorry to hear of Becky's passing. My thoughts are with the family, especially Lee and the kids & grandkids during this sad time.

These wonderful folks lived a few houses down the street from us when we were kids. Sandy's presence and kindness after the death of my mother last year meant so much to us. I am sorry to learn of Danny's passing.
My thoughts are with the family during this sad time.

Thoughts and prayers are with Calvin's family during this difficult time.
He will be greatly missed.
Love to you all

I am sorry to hear this news; Mr Jennings was the nicest man, and always had something interesting to say. I will miss his visits to the office.
My thoughts are with his family.

I assume they called her to pick him up at his request? I would be pretty upset if I were you, too.
Too bad public safety is no longer a high priority for law enforcement and/or the people who write the laws anymore...

Lucky you.
I live next to a guy who processes deer - all I smell during hunting season is dead animals.

So sorry to hear this - have known this family since I was a little girl, although I had not seen James or Tunya for a number of years.
Thinking of you all.
Twenty years.

Ok, first of all, what purpose do you think 'making an example' serves? To deter others from doing something so ugly and stupid, that's what. If this sends the message that such behavior is just simply unacceptable, ever, and prevents someone from harming or killing someone as a result of doing something equally abhorrent and wrong-headed, I think society will have been well served in this instance.
But yeah, lets do get real - I can't believe you are defending people who terrorized children/families who had done nothing to provoke them besides having the unmitigated gall to exist, and pointed a weapon at them while threatening and denigrating them & for what? The color of their skin. That is about as ugly as it gets.
This could have ended badly and I think the sentence was entirely fitting; even better would have been for all involved to be charged and sentenced just as harshly.
I imagine your thoughts on the matter would be vastly different had you and/or children you care about been in attendance at the party.
A straight-up charge of murder does not bring a 7 year sentence in this state. Maybe something like involuntary manslaughter but not murder. Someone convicted of murder might be paroled in 7 years, but that is not being 'let off'. I worked for the parole board in Atlanta years ago and never saw a murder conviction with anything less than a life sentence either with or without possibility of parole.
