  1. Al Gore has three questions about climate change and ourfuture. First: Do we have to change? Each day, global-warmingpollution traps as much heat energy as would be released by400,000 Hiroshima-class atomic bombs. This trapped heat isleading to stronger storms and more extreme floods, he says:"Every night on the TV news now is like a nature hikethrough the Book of Revelation." Second question: Can we change? We've alreadystarted. So then, the big question: Will we change? In this challenging, inspiring talk,Gore says yes. "When any greatmoral challenge is ultimately resolved into a binar

Steve Justice was the guest speaker at Thursday's PauldingBusiness Association meet and spoke to a crowd that includedboth Paulding's county chairmen candidates and its chairman... as well as several folks engaged in the aerospaceindustry. 3. Basically, stradial, this is the first thing in months you've written that I agree with. My reading is a good deal, badly handled is still a good deal. pubby
  4. Yes it is about predicting the future ... and to that my reply was consistent with Hume's skepticism that suggests that at this moment, it is no more zany to suggest the sun will not rise tomorrow than to say with absolute certainty it will. pubby PS: Mull on this Hume quote:
  5. First, I stated that Smith's actions were juvenile in this case. Talking to a few folks before the PBA meeting today the discussion came up where did that kind of thing came from ... someone mentioned NY and I said no, I thought it was a sign that Brett was fitting in here pretty good as this was more like when in Paulding, do as the Paulding-ites do IMO. For example, with the above being my attitude and then for anyone to say that I have tried to justify Smith's act in this case ... well that is old-school Paulding too. What is kind of interesting is the exit of Richard Anderse
  6. Paulding County’s HD-19 isOfficially in Play Posted on February 23, 2016 onGeorgiapol.com by IrishPat With qualifying just weeks away, the number of politicalannouncements are increasing. Apparently incumbency nolonger guarantees an easy re-election. This time, HouseDistrict 19 in eastern Paulding County, incumbent PauletteRakestraw is getting a serious challenge from lawenforcement professional Joe Duvall. The Navy veteran is an empty-nester with two grown childrenand a strong want to continue his public service in thelegislature.Campaign consultant Bryan Miller shared this informationwi
  7. Stadial: I agree ... and your post is a prime example of how you distort facts and information. If you cared you would notice that the thread I was replying to, said: I stand by my point which is prefaced by Radiohead's call for a formal investigation, that was seconded by Beach Bum who said both sides need investigating an was in response to mrshoward who suggested that the anti-side was immune from investigation because they are private citizens ... to which I answered that private citizens can be investigated on the basis of their potential participation
  8. Specifically on the question of 'should private citizens be investigated?' in this case ... yes, when they may be parties to a conspiracy in restraint of trade. Whether or not they are guilty of that or not would be the purpose of the investigation. In regard Brett Smith's passing out of the document ... it was nothing more than juvenile but then when you look at this issue in its entirety, the notion that juvenile bickering would be an improvement over the canine territorial whizzing that funded the initial suits. The point is if this issue had been handled as adults from the get
  9. Obviously you didn't think about it. First, a resignation is a choice; one's natural death is not. Given the circumstance, the statement by Biden simply telegraphed the message that the justice considering resignation ought not make the choice to resign. It was not made after Nov. 1992 ... and probably, GHWB, who was up for re-election was leading the polls at the time. Because the nomination would be during an election period, if there is a way to avoid the distraction, it is probably a good idea and Bush, assuming he won a second term, would not be denied the appointment. Bottom l

  11. If you think about it, there is a big difference between Biden's hypothetical statement ... that he should not appoint IF a SC member were to resign ... and McConnell's promise to block it. pubby
  12. Politicians traditionally take a 'do nothing' approach to things because they, like many, have no vision. It also increases their leverage. Think of it like this interplay: YOU: Hi, Senator ... Can I count on your support for xyz? Senator: I'd have to look into which translates to " No, and since you haven't been a big benefactor, contributor or supporter, I'll continue saying no until you show me what is in it for me." YOU: Well then Senator, what would it take to get your support? Senator: Now we are negotiating. Everything has a 'cost' ... and I can guarantee yo
  13. GD: I actually liked the work he did in finding how to extend the Federal Government's reach in the Emmett Till case. (Chicago Tribune) Seems the champion of strict construction was not averse to expansion of the role - his 'argument' was an end run around not only local jurisdiction but the difficult hurdle posed by the statute of limitations. Interesting read into a mind that molded the law to his purpose and showed that he was a brilliant lawyer who used the law to get what he wanted without the restraints others presume as an ideology. pubby
  14. If Obama had attended Scalia's funeral and served as a pall bearer, the same folks would have complained he was too eager to see the former justice dead and buried. The plain fact is there is a group of people who choose to criticize everything he does, regardless of what he does. It is a psych-ops technique to spread misery, discontent and unrest and it will continue until they regain power. The fear is that people, who are fed this level of fear and loathing for that long a time transcend from being psych-ops subjects and just become certifiably psychotic. And people wonder why
  15. Your comments are relentless personal attacks on me ... nothing more or less. You'll notice I pay you no attention except when you do make these personal attacks. I really do understand that you changed your mind regarding posting and I was, for the longest time, accepting of that just as I am accepting that the market and circumstance regarding the viability of the airport has changed and that those charged with leading that venture found it necessary to change. Frankly, it is you, who once an idea is fixed in your head, are so rigid that you seem to never accept a change. I recog

  17. There are a lot of reasons that Todd may have changed his mind about running. He certainly was thinking about it. Regardless, I'm quite amused of the strange bedfellows these days and you, straydial are amongst the strangest. pubby
  18. Gosh, Whitey ... I think you're wrong. I remember when Pcom was on Merchants Drive, we had county water and city of Dallas Sewer. Up where the jail is, I believe is fully in the county ... but it has Dallas sewer. These agreements probably go back to the time when the county's water system was an independent authority ... i.e. before it was formally taken over by the county as an operating department. Stradial: I'm talking about an entirely different program from the Pat and Patti show. I produced several from a coaches show, to online bingo to a teen show to the weekly news.
  19. Whitey: Thanks for the post and the background. I agree, the county sewer plan didn't include the line to the airport but Dallas' sewer system was the only feasible location as none of the county facilities were close and it would have been prohibitive to construct not only a line but a treatment plant. The background on Chicken's situation is also appreciated. My only point is that it has been going on for a long time over several election cycles. And yes, it was never treated as an extreme priority. Bottom line, I wasn't making light of it; I just am not over-impressed with
  20. Stradial: In aggregate, your analysis is a lie and you are full of cheese. Yes, this is an old and on-going problem. It has been talked about before. 1. The next point is a total misrepresentation. 2. I have seen long range plans that call for the consolidation of the sewerage system in Paulding into a single entity run by the county. I believe that is 'still the plan.' 3. The situation as far as cost may have changed with the Mayor's appointment to the GEFA board. Public funding of public infrastructure in Georgia is often a problem. (Next you're going to blame me bec
  21. That is one of the reasons I don't often moderate topics. Still, dogs, you know the rules about personal attacks. From what I gather, that is the usual reason for the moderation. I'm am sure there are people here who blame me for not shutting the lot of you down when you trash the Austin Brothers, the judges, the police (pro and con), Hillary, Bernie, etc., etc. etc. I make a it practice not to moderate topics when I am at the center. But the point is that when folks attack these public servants, I may defend them out of a sense of fairness, but I don't shut down the criticis
  22. That wasn't my intent at all. I was countering the fear-mongering by Whitey that we will all be drinking unadulterated sheeze. pubby
