In this illuminatingtalk, Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay shares hiscountry's mission to put happiness before economic growthand set a world
  2. I doubt if any of the coroner candidates are among those who ascribe to the 6000 year old earth ... but given the fundamentalism of a couple of the candidates, we may have two, maybe three folks hoping to get on the public payroll who do. pubby
  3. Rose: It would appear that is exactly what she is saying ... changing the authority from a local "Paulding County Airport Authority" to a regional authority ... Oh wait ... she's saying things like this and yet there is no known bill with specifics. Why? Is it secret? Are the anti-airport folks sitting on proposed legislation to regionalize our airport and threatening our legislators if they don't get it passed with retribution ... over their unwillingness to pass a secret law? Oh the horror the horror pubby
  4. That was back in the day when there were "D"s after their names I note that Mr. Dobson is out for a county power grab here. Here is a little tidbit from what should be covered in a high school class on state and local government. Counties are creatures of the state, created by the state legislature as are cities, school districts, industrial building authorities, special taxing districts and airport authorities. If there is wide spread agreement that, say, the county take over the airport directly, then it could be done. But why should the county be the one to take it
  5. I have no idea where the guy stands on guns. Last time I looked, being either for or against gun laws was not a reason the Senate should not do their job. So, have your hearings and accept or reject the man. In other words, do the job. pubby PS: I just saw an interview with Bernie who said he supports the senate going forward but, if they delay until after the election and he is the winner, he would like for them to delay because he wants to appoint a much more progressive justice. This was after Orrin Hatch suggested if either Bernie or Hillary win ... and presumably a lot o
  6. My wife saw it too. Said it gave a notice day of April 3. I'll find out more when I can. pubby
  7. It was 'handy work' for sure. The only real out of pocket was the mail box ($12 @ HD), an old piece of peel and stick tile (cut the numbers out), a half-pint can of polyurethane lacquer, and three cans of black spray paint, two of which I had. The rest was left-over stuff around the place Pocket change, pocket change ... It would almost have cost more to drive to the bank. Thanks Thanks again.
  8. I've needed to put up a mail box at the property with the Villa Rica Highway address since I'm missing some important mail ... like water bills So I put this mailbox together. I like it pubby
  9. Steven Fincher 7/356-2525 can probably help you out. gravel comes in several grades ... crusher run is probably the cheapest. pubby
  10. Actually, I saw Todd at the bank on Monday - he drove in the drive-in next to me - and he said he was still considering it at that moment. I said I thought he would be frustrated if anyone else was running. BTW: What happened to Van Westbrook running? And as far as being in quite a mess ... why would you say that. The only thing I'm willing to predict at this point is a low turnout primary with an even lower turnout in a runoff. I wish someone had qualified as a democrat pubby
  11. If and when I do, you won't be the first to know pubby
  12. OMG! ... and today is old folks day. (I know because I r one). Talk about some unhappy campers having to walk, walk, walk on old hips, worn out knees ... and knowing the rascals will have all their juice depleted by folks running up and down, up and down the aisles looking for that regular item. pubby
  13. You mentioned roads ... is this the right part of the county (SW?) pubby
  14. No one other than you has heard me present that analysis of Paulding County's power structure as truth. I've always seen the county as two different camps - the Dallas and Not-Dallas groups who vie for power and, until the Bill Carruth/Jerry Shearin administrations, traded power every four years. There are influential families but they've generally aligned within one group or another although some 'play' with both. The truth is that the greatest center of consistent political power in the county has been lodged in the law firm which has acquired the institutional knowledge of the coun
  15. I know ... but the operative statement is between Blake and Brett Smith. I can tell you that Brett Smith was in no mood to immediately jump into Paulding after his rejection ... was it at the end of June or May 2012 ... at Brisco Field. Bottom line, Blake was doing his job, looking for opportunities. But to suggest the office holders were engaged - do know that David Austin was somewhat distracted by a political campaign where he was being attacked by those who opposed him including two current post commissioners (Todd and his challenger in 2012 - Tony Crowe) .. was anything more than in
  16. As I understand it there was no action or direct contact with Propeller until late July/early August- after the primary - other than an inquiry made by Blake Swafford to ask, if after the refusal in Gwinnette, were they still looking. Beyond that, the idea of a commercial airport in Paulding is a vision that precedes me. Some oppose that vision and some support it. Did you know that the Jones/inland/temple folks were down right ecstatic about the idea? These folks, whose Republican credentials go back over a 150 years, actually put a clause in the contract that encouraged the city of A
  17. I think this would represent a record turnout for a special election in Paulding. Since the comparison is to a regular primary election (July 2012), the notion that it was going to be a better turnout than a regular primary is not only acknowledged but predicted. The 2015 date was a typo. It is obviously 2016 (already) and the original title ( I dragged and dropped from the title bar and to add to the character count for appearance, I added the year ... which obviously was a mistake.) Still, thanks for the heads up - I changed it. Beyond that, you are as full of cheese as a Christm
  18. I want to say the turnout was in the range of 36% of the registered voters. pubby
  19. Red shirts ... huh... Delta must have engaged the same surrogate astro-turf machine to destroy the effort at Brisco as they did here. Makes sense to me. It is amazing what a monopoly will do to maintain its monopoly. pubby
  20. rON Ron Davis wins Post 1 seatthrough December 2016 Republican Ron Davis beat fellow republican JeremiahFields with 3926 votes and 61.44% of the vote in thespecial election that ran coincidentally with thepresidential primary in Georgia. Fields garnered 2,373 votes and 37.14 percent of the vote. Voters wrote in other nameswhich totaled 91 votes cast or 1.42% of the vote. Davis will take the seat held by David Carmichael who isrunning for commission chairman. Both Davis and hisopponent Fields are expected to re-run the race for the postin the Republican Primary set for May. Official

  22. Tbird: I understand the issue of those who are enthralled with the idea of term limits for elected officials being inclined to like the idea of time limits for professional staff, but it is 'as a rule' a bad idea just like 'trading in wives' after five years 'is a bad idea.' Other similar bad ideas? I've been with my doctor for five years and he knows about me at last so I should fire him because it is a new year. Or how about the auto mechanic that knows you, knows your car and is honest as the day is long ... but you've been with him for two years so it is time to find a new mecha
  23. Bla, bla, bla ... given the endless he-said, she-said mudslinging, no one has moral high ground; hypocrisy abounds. pubby
  24. Ms. Wilkins is a spokesperson for the anti-airport crowd. That makes her a public figure. The rule in America is that if you stand up, people can say things about you that you don't like and don't necessarily have to be true. I personally can attest to that reality, including, of course, assertions that I am compensated for my positions. The distribution of the information citing the economic status of Ms. Wilkins is such that if one thinks logically, it is fair to suggest that not only is the lawsuit in which she is a party is being paid for by a third party but that she is being compe
