  1. What I hear from you and others is that we should back LEO and accept that if something wrong happens - a bad shoot - they have existing controls in place to rectify the situation. The problem is that we end up with incidents like this with the autistic young man... Or to go back to Cleveland, even Tamir Rice, the 12 year old playing with a toy gun and shot in a matter of seconds of a LEO rolling on the scene. It is as if the standard is if there the slightest concern that the persons involved is armed gives LEO the right to shoot first and ask questions later. Not sure if a toy ca
  2. Smokediver: We all want a strong economy and we all want common sense in our security approaches both domestically and in the world. What we are saying is that we believe we are all being conned by a class A con man who is punching your buttons and promising you that he can deliver. All we have to do is 'believe him' ... because he is a strong man! Many of us know better than to trust our democratic institutions to such a character. For example, the Russians had a troubled democracy that pretty much morphed into an oligarchy and is now moving quickly toward a dictatorship.

  4. Well, that is the rub. He came off as someone who bases their world view on the misinformation they've obtained listening to talk radio and Fox News. His truth and your truth are no doubt close; but since the information you all base your judgment on is bull, his world is in another dimension. I noticed the pose and saw Darrel Hammonds' (SNL fame) talk about that being the base-pose for his work when he imitates the guy. While the look is the look, the more disturbing thing is that Trump really appears to think that his, and only his, force of personality is necessary to fix t
  5. Like I said, if the officer is so scared of a man child with a five year old's mentality and an old black man care giver that he can't get close enough to figure out the situation and just assumes they're trying to kill him so he shoots first, then I feel the guy must have some very deep seated guilt to feel that vulnerable. I mean we would be better off with robocops. pubby
  6. America First: Look into its history ABR. Look also at this article about Peter Thiel's vision and ask what he was doing speaking immediately before Trump's daughter. You folks are falling for platitudes from a guy who claims to be a billionaire vigilante. I don't get it. This is nuts. pubby
  7. This article in the Guardian explains: I'm afraid the right is being led to a very, very dark place by people who seek to bring about the dystopian future of a Dick novel where the few so fully dominate society as to relegate the balance of mankind to slavery. pubby
  8. I see your respect for democratic institutions is right up there with Peter Thiel's. pubby
  9. "The latest" from his union representative is that the black man who was shot in the leg was not the intended target, rather the target was the non-compliant autistic person whose weapon was a toy car. The problem here is that the officer was, I guess, assuming that the person who called in the 911 call was accurate. I mean there was obviously a civilian with a camera phone 30-50-ft away and people viewing that video could assess the situation well enough to recognize that young man was "different" (rocking behavior and sitting in the center of a street is odd/different) and that the
  10. Let me ask you this, smokediver. In another topic, I offered to bet you giving you 1000:1 odds on a penny bet (your ante - I think you're good for it) that you would be sorely disappointed in Trump assuming, of course, he wins. If he were to take the 'ceremonial job' as suggested in the above bit, would that even disappoint you? ... or do you think it is cool? pubby
  11. Let me add another link to this disturbing story; this one from the Washington Post. pubby
  12. Yes, Michael Moore predicted that Donald Trump will win in November largely because he tunes into the attitudes of those upset folks in the midwest. pubby
  13. Strange, I WOULD CONTEND THAT WHAT I TOO OFTEN HEAR - stand solidly behind law enforcement's standards for use of force regardless - that government is corrupt so we need to expand it to make sure that transsexuals don't go to the wrong public restroom not to mention the expansion of government necessary to get effect the deportation of 11 million undocumented residents ... because they are all rapists - IS INFINITELY MORE DIVISIVE that recognizing that we have a problem that can be addressed by improved training, promoting policies to limit the carrying of weapons by all parties and the
  14. Why would old white men like me want to be racially divisive? Could it be that as old white men we are subjected to the tripe and just know the score? pubby
  15. It has happened sooner than expected, Roger Ailes, who was the founding president of Fox Cable News and put it in bed with the GOP, has officially resigned from the network with the companies owner, Rupert Murdoch, taking over as chairman and CEO of Fox News and Fox TV. It was expected that Ailes would continue his post until after the GOP convention ended but it was pretty much a foregone fact he was on his out in the wake of charges of sexual harassment Ailes and Murdoch have been allies since the founding some 20 years ago and Ailes will continue to consult for the network. 17. Talk about rocking the apple cart, Trump's ignorant statements about the US not fulfilling its commitments to defend our NATO allies in Europe from Russia, not to mention his move to remove our support of Ukraine from the GOP platform, is, in terms of magnitude, idiocy to the eighth power. So idiotic, you can expect the Clinton campaign to paint Trump as the ally of Putin, maybe even his agent. Stories like this: It's Official: Hillary Clinton Is Running Against Vladimir Putin and this: Donald Trump Remarks on NATO Trigger Alarm Bells in Europe From NBC News: These bi

  19. What is Trump? He is a classic bullsh*tter. Is he a isolationist or is he for free trade; will he raise tariff's or will he lower them. Contradictions abound and it all means absolutely nothing because a bullsh*tter really doesn't care. He is definitely more statesmanlike t han the 'fridge' that blondiega1 is saying we should vote for. For an insight into the academic view of Trump from the perspective of his artistry as a bullsh*tter, check out this article that makes the bold assertion that Trump is not a liar. There are those who feel that bullsh*tters, largely because they

  21. Then I can only suggest that Alinsky copied George Benard Shaw in that phrase because Shaw once wrote. Some people see things as they are, and say why? I see things as they could be and ask why not? BTW: That particular quote was stolen by Bobby Kennedy and was a 'take out' in his book ... One could take the biblical view - you know Ecclesiastes and proclaim there is nothing new under the sun. ... or you could take the admission of the staffer who claimed that she was responsible. I mean a similar sentence is one thing ... I don't have access to the software that roots ou

  23. yeah, sure. We need to go back to the economics of the turn of the century - the last century - classic austrian economics as taught in the chicago school .. not. pubby
